I just watched Top Gun for the first time the other night and I hopped online, curious to see if anyone had written any Ice/Maverick...cuz...I got a lot of gay vibes from them when I was watching the movie (I even added comments while we watched, especially with Ice eye balling him all the time and the HUG scene LOL).
The moment I saw Ice, he was my favorite. Even my friend. (who had brought the movie along) told me to wait till the Iceman showed up. >xD
Anywho, on to the real part of the review: I have to say that you wrote this story exceptionally well and they felt very in character in spite of the homosexual element. I especially liked how their relationship developed from the start to beginning. It was very realistic and they were men throughout it all (in other words, they didn't act girly or effeminate like some writers make 'em act -_-). I loved the fact that this wasn't a PWP. It had a plot and was more than "OMG YOU MAKE ME SO HAWT, ICE, DO MEEE!"
I believe something in Ice attracted Maverick because since they met, Ice was always challenging him, always pushing him towards the edge. Maverick's character doesn't like to follow rules and likes to be on the dangerous side and to push things to the next level. When I watched the movie, I didn't hate Charlie, but yes, like Maverick described, she was like vanilla. She didn't seem right for him at all. She was too tame and didn't push him like Ice does.
Great job. You pulled it off really good. Your story would have made an awesome sequel to Top Gun. >:D

I stumbled on this story quite by chance whilst looking for something else entirely different - and what a fortuitous stumble it was to be sure! It's so wonderful when you start reading a fic and then get that tight, excited feeling in your stomach because you're enjoying it so much...and half of you wants to read the words quickly to see what happens, and the other half wants to savour it, read it word by slow word, to put off as long as possible the agony of reaching the end! You kept the characters in character and created a lovely relationship between our two heroes without it becomming overly sentimental. And who can resist fighter planes?
An hour ago I would have never thought of reading Top Gun slash (despite having seen the film more times than I can count!); now I have to say I'm a convert, and will be searching for more. Maybe I'll find more of yours? Although it is with some sadness that I see the dates on which your stories were archived were so long ago.
And you're a fellow Brit! My cup runneth over!!
Thanks for such a great story.

Hey that is really a great story. Sadly there are not much Top Gun Storys out there, and good Maverik/Iceman storys are even less likely.
But I have one thing to critcize you about. You are aware that at the time Top Gun the Movie plays. X-Men 2 wasn't even thought about, and I don't think the Simpsons where either but there I'm not sure. You could have used Airwolf but I thnk even that wasn't on screen yet.
But even if it's glaringly obvious that you wrote this story with for our time popular movies and series in mind I still like it.

Figured it was time to tell you- I love this fic. I've read it easily ten times, one of those you can search up and reread, you never grow tired of it. I love your characterization and the realistic initial union of these two. I think too often male fanfiction is over romanticized, and while its a nice fantasy, lets face it, most guys are sending roses to make first contact. So again, thank you for this story, it never fails to get me inching forward in my chair and giggling like a schoolgirl while biting my lip. cheers.

Saw the movie, saw that obviously Maverick and Ice should be smooching then got the pleasant surprise to see your fic :D I can consider myself lucky that there actually was a slash fic *worships you* it would be so nice if you wrote more!! :3
Maverick seemed a little OOC but that may be just me and you managed to make to story so convincing! You should definitively write a sequel ^^
