This story is simply superb. I dont often like the 'girl-dressed-as-boy' scenario, but you have really done it justice! Your writing is eloquent, your characterisation is perfect, and I truly look forward to reading more!

I really do like this, but I don't recall pirates ever branding themselves. Generally they get caught and are branded so others would recognize them as pirates.
