The biggest pet peeve I have about Jack/Elizabeth fan fiction is this: Everyone always tries to make it out to seem like Elizabeth isn't attracted to Will, Will doesn't turn her on the way Jack does, she's always wanted Jack, she's never really loved Will more than a friend, etc. etc. blah blah blah blah. This is a lazy plot device in my opinion. Obviously Elizabeth loves Will very much in the movies and
wanted to marry him. She may have had feelings toward Jack, but let's be honest with ourselves... it was never love. Possibly at the end of DMC she realized she felt something more than just lust for him, but that's all. When writers try to down play the feelings Elizabeth and Will have for each other, it makes the story lose it's credibility. I'd much rather read a story where Elizabeth is
torn between her two loves, rather than looking at Jack as so much better than Will and thinking that she has really loved him all along. Why should the decision be that easy for her? Will is a good man who loves her very much and should stop being portrayed in fan fiction as lame and a poor stand in for Jack. I'm not saying you are doing that here, but I certainly see that you are making it seem as though Elizabeth's feelings for Jack have completely replaced her feelings for Will. I wish that people could be more original than that.
Now, please do not look at this as a flame. For the most part I have enjoyed this story very much. I think you are a good writer (though this latest chapter seemed a bit superfluous as most of us have already seen the movie and didn't need to rehashing of the kiss scene), and have thus far managed to make the story interesting. I am just not one of those people who are in favor of mindless gushing and praise. Please continue this story, but try a little harder not to fall in to the same pattern most of the rest of the stories here have fallen in to. I know it's easy to make people hate Will or see him as inferior to Jack so that Jack and Elizabeth can be together, but it's really just poor story telling. Other than that, I do think you are doing a wonderful job on this story, and I hope to see more from you very soon.
