--Prologue--
Fingers trailed down her side, over the curve of her hip and down her leg. She sighed as the heat entered her, filled her.
She'd lost count of the number of times they'd made love since the "audition" she'd staged during a bored moment the night before. The thought mildly disturbed her, that it was lovemaking. She'd been determined that it was only going to be physical between them, but sometime the night before, a line had been crossed.
Calloused fingers found her slickness and stroked expertly, knowing just where she liked to be touched, how she liked to be touched. He was a quick learner, always had been. He'd paid very close attention during their times together, and at each subsequent meeting, he expanded on those themes.
She knew that part of it was because he cared so deeply about what they were doing. It meant infinitely more to him, she knew, than it did to her. Perhaps she would, someday, feel the same way. Even now, she thought she was beginning to.
Last night, she'd watched him, and had wanted him to find the same pleasure he'd given her. It hadn't bothered her until she'd woken sometime later to his touch and responded instantly, her body seeking out his hands as if they were magnetised, attracting poles drawn inexorably together.
Lips brushed the nape of her neck. His name fell from her lips, barely audible, but she knew he heard when his larger frame drew her close, surrounding her.
She let her hands cover his, though they were much smaller. She felt him tremble. Warmth flooded her, a slow, delicious feeling that spread from her centre to her extremities.
He said her name, and then she was lost once more to dreams.
--Chapter One--
Jaina woke the next morning to find the bed beside her empty. No note, no clothes scattered on the floor like she distinctly recalled leaving them. She started to reach out, to find him through the Force, but cut herself off. She didn't want him to think that she wondered at his absence. She didn't want to wonder at his absence.
What was happening to her?
She stood and stretched, tired muscles protesting.
Still, she couldn't help but allow a tiny sliver of uncertainty enter her mind, pricking her, nagging her. He'd never left before.
Then again, they'd never spent the night together before.
She shook her head and strode into the refresher.
----------
Kyp didn't see her until their squadron met later that morning. He smiled when she walked in, her hair still a little damp, faint shadows under her eyes. He didn't know if she realised it, but her lips were still swollen from their kisses.
He hadn't wanted to leave, but in the early morning, he hadn't wanted to face her, knowing that she would be distant. She was using him, he knew. He wanted more from her than just sharing her bed, but he would just have to wait until she came around.
He straightened and took his position next to her as her second-in-command. His eyes flickered over the pilots, rested briefly on Colonel Jagged Fel, Twins Three. There was the briefest flicker of reaction on the observant young man's face, and then it settled back into stony immobility.
Kyp looked back to Jaina. She looked tired, yes, but not like she was a woman who had enjoyed a very long night. And he knew she'd enjoyed it; she'd cried out in his arms often enough.
Jaina gave Kyp a short assessing look, then turned to her pilots and gave them their orders. They were going to run simulators for the morning, and then go out on maneuvers later that day.
Kyp took a step back as Fel approached. He felt rather than saw a surge of reaction in Jaina, and had to quell the urge to vocally claim her. The problem was, even with what they'd shared, even with how he felt, Jaina didn't see herself as his.
He was just settling into a simulator when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see Jaina there.
"Can we talk?" she whispered.
Nodding, Kyp stood and followed her out of the simulation room. In the corridor outside, Jaina crossed her arms, a defensive posture, and said in a low voice, "You weren't there when I woke up."
"I didn't think you wanted me to be," he said. "Did you?"
She hesitated, looking uncertain, then said, "A little. Maybe."
He resisted touching her. "Do you want me to stay next time?"
Jaina's large eyes lifted to his. He quickly backpedalled.
"I mean, if there's going to be . . . Is there going to be a next time? I saw the way you were looking at Jag."
She shrugged, letting her arms drop to her sides. "I don't know. I need to sort this out."
Kyp briefly touched her arm. "Well, try not to forget that I might have a say in this, too, Jaina. I'm in this as much as you are."
Jaina sighed. "I know."
He nodded towards the door. "Let's get back in thbefobefore anyone starts wondering."
By "anyone", she suspected he meant Jag.
And she had to acknowledge, as they went in, she already knew there would be a next time.
