“How does it feel to be a puppet under my string?”

Dracula pulled Anna’s body back into his immortal embrace. Their bodies moved flawlessly to the rhythm of the music, not missing a beat. Surrounding them was other masked guests that seemed to follow the same pattern of dance. Everyone was oblivious to what was happening around them, except Anna. Her eyes sorted out the details of her surroundings. She really was a puppet on Dracula’s string. If she were able to break free of it, someone else around her would grab hold. It was true despair to know that she was helpless. There was nothing she could do to rid herself of that burden.

A moan passed through her tiers as she felt her body being pulled closer to the monster that took so many of her family members over the years. She had a feeling in the depths of her demise that she would be joining them soon. Death was a far better choice that this.

"Anna." The voice took over her senses. The music had no meaning and the people around her felt as if they faded away. He was going to make sure she paid attention to him. The thought made her skin crawl. The tightened grip around her waist made her finally turn and come face to face with Count.

"What do you want from me?" Her accent rang out in a plea as her body continued to be shuffled on the dance floor.

"You know what I want." His voice was low but held a certain power that could take over the senses.

Her bottom lip trembled with fear. She couldn’t take any more. For the first time in her life, she truly wanted to die. There was no point in fighting anymore. Whatever he was doing to her, it was painfully close to changing her into a person she did not want to be. She didn’t want to break and give up like a little girl. She wanted to be the strong warrior that had no fears. It was impossible though. Everyone has their own flaws, and she finally found hers. The truth struck her like daggers.

"Do you really think Gabriel is going to storm in here and save you?" The question broke her chain of thought.

Van Helsing. Was he really going to come to her rescue? She wished she had some bit of hope that he would, but she knew he wasn’t. "I am no use to you Count. Why keep me here?”

His hand around her waist moved up to the mid section of her back. Pushing her body forward, a thin smile spread over his lips. “You are of much use to me, Anna. Think of all I can do to you.” Lowering his head, his lips placed soft kisses upon the tense flesh of her neck, the wet lust of his tongue following.

Anna closed her eyes tightly and let out a painful sob. She was frightened. Not knowing what this creature had in mind for her was plaguing her thoughts continuously. She tried to push away, but her limbs grew heavy. Dracula was right about her being a puppet under his string.

“Please …” Her voice sounded as a whisper as her eyes began to slowly reopen.

A smirk spread over Dracula’s face as he lifted his head. “I can take away your fears … your pain. All you have o iso is give yourself to me. Be my bride, Anna. I know it is what your heart really longs for.”

“I will never be your bride, Count. You make me sick.” Anna said through clenched teeth.

A sigh escaped his lips as he turned his glance away from her and towards a door off to the side of the room. “I guess I will have to use more force then I would like.”

“Please! Just let me -- ”

“-- Shhh …” A finger was placed upon her lips. “I think it is time we retire from this party.”

Grabbing her hand, his fingers intertwined gently with hers as he began to lead her through the abyss of bodies that continued to dance. Anna followed, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes. Where was he taking her?

Placing his open hand upon the cold metal knob of the door, he turned his wrist to the left and pushed forward. Music burst into the hallway as the door creped fully open. He walked through the entrance that led into to alwaylway, Anna still by his side.

“Where are we going?” She asked quietly as he continued to lead her.

An unseen smile was formed as Dracula’s eyes stared forward. “Patience, my dear. Patience.”

This wasn’t the answer she wanted to hear. Her heart thudded in her chest, the blood pumping quickly through out her veins. She couldn’t handle any more suprises. Biting down on her bottom lip, she held back her tears.

“Here we are.” The softness of his voice didn’t hide the fact that Anna knew what he was about to do.

They stopped at one last door. With a slight hesitation, Dracula pushed the piece of wood open, and the contents of the room were revealed. A bed with a large black canopy stood directly in the middle of the space, the scent of blood and death surrounding it. A slight glint of metal came from the rooting chains connected to the bedpost. This was where it was going to begin. Her life would be taken in a sadistic way to make room for a new identity. She would be his bride … after he had his way taking away the only human left in her.

To be continued.
