Awakening To Sight
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from the mummy movies. I only own the characters that are apart of this story.
Category: Romance/Supernatural/Action/Adventure
Author’s Note: I decided to write something new that was apart of “The Mummy” stories. I love Ardeth fics LOL! Anyway, I made the decision to kind of write a story where American Indian culture clashes with that of the Medjai (I figured It’d be interesting). And did I also mention that this an Ardeth/OC romance story? (swoons…)
Summary: Morgan Green Leaf makes a journey to Egypt to make sense of her visions and to find the missing part of her destiny. In the lands so foreign to her, she gets caught up into an adventure and meets none other than Ardeth Bey.
PLEASE read and review! I’ll get right to cranking out chapters! And for those who are fans of my KA fic, another one is on the way too! Please tell me what you think of this… it doesn’t start off too crappy does it?

Prologue: Unforeseen Journeys
She found herself in an unforeseen void of never-ending depths, darkness looming around her like a relentless, suffocating blanket that melded alongside the outline of her soft, tanned flesh. An icy chill seemed to pulsate through her body, grasping and constricting around the center of her heart. She felt trapped, paralyzed, and even helpless. This was not the path that she had intended to leave toward in the wake of her vision, for this was no vision, but a glimpse of something more.
One emotion began to take hold of her as she tried to move through the blackness and foreboding mist that wrapped and tethered around her like a smothering cocoon; fear.
She felt like something was coming for her, an evil presence hovering near.
“Grandfather!” the woman shouted, her green eyes wide as the chilling sensation began to increase itself tenfold. This vision was not right at all. ‘Grandfather knows the realms of the otherworld, he knows how to travel, he must realize that I am here-‘
And yet her echoed pleas throughout the void remained unanswered.
“Your calls, dear sister, are in vain. There is no one to help you here. Not even the old man.”
Frightened eyes shifted to the form opposite of her. ‘Sister?’
“In your soul, you recognize me, do you not?”
The woman was someone that she did not recognize in life. And yet, she felt like she knew her somehow. Gazing at her with wide eyes, the coldness felt earlier rushed through her veins now like a raging storm, alerting her to the danger that this woman presented to her. She needed to escape, to run… and yet, she remained frozen, utterly floored to the spot.
The woman, her posture and demeanor oozing with influence and power, gazed upon her captive with malicious intention. Her almond eyes, dark orbs of near blackness, latched onto her soul with a chilling calculation, the prey now caught in the hunter’s trap.
The ugliness sensed in the spirit outshone the beauty that her lithe form possessed from the flesh. She was clad in an ancient dress, complete with a golden belt, various armbands and jewelry, appearing as if she had just stepped out of an old Egyptian storybook.
Her lips curved into a smooth, malevolent smile, eyes dark and empty. “The time will come soon. And you shall not stop me… but, I shall make an offer while I’m… in this suspended limbo.”
Silence.
“Join me.”
For not one fraction of a moment did she even consider the idea. And fear began to dissipate into anger and determination. “Never,” she answered flatly. “I would rather die a thousand times over before joining you.”
The Egyptian woman’s eyes narrowed, silently seething at the woman’s bravado. “I thought as much. You are the one who sees hope in the humanity that condemned me. You betray me with your answer.”
“Your sense of self died long ago,” she spat, the words slipping from her lips involuntarily. Why was she saying this…? She didn’t even know this woman that was standing arrogantly before her!
“And yours has always been useless to me! You and your love for humanity,” she sneered disgustedly, “You love the very ones that condemned me to my torment!”
Shaking her head, she replied just as vehemently, “No. It was yourself that issued your fate. You have only but yourself to blame. I would never join you.”
“Perhaps, dear one… or perhaps not. We shall see. There are no warriors here to protect you and seeing that you willingly brought yourself to this desolate plane, I shall take advantage quite early.” She gazed at her coldly, her lips twisting into a sadistic smirk of pleasure. “You refuse my offer and leave me no choice… before you leave here, I want your eyes, ears, and tongue… such lovely features to take from you darling…”
Her emerald eyes narrowed defiantly. “I think not.”
The Egyptian merely shook her head, anticipation taking form in her regal posture and smile. She lunged at her prey, not realizing that her attack had been thoroughly anticipated. She was caught by surprise, however, as a blade materialized in the other woman’s hand.
Her eyes widened in fear. The blade was small but sharp, complete with an intricate design of Anubis at the hilt center. It was a beautiful weapon by appearance, beautiful, well crafted, and most certainly deadly. It radiated with unsurpassed energy…
‘...A darkness defeated by another coming darkness…’
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The words floated on air, seeming as a low hiss as the void of blackness, along with the woman, began to disappear. Blurry shapes began to take form in her range of sight and warmth replaced the chill that had once settled itself within her bones.
Crackling reached her ears.
“Green Leaf,” a voice croaked.
No words could pass through her lips.
“Morgan,” a more persistent voice barked.
Fingers gripped her arm, shaking her.
Her eyes were fully open… and yet, she could not see.
The shaking on her arm increased. She was beginning to feel again, the numbness of her body now shifting to the sensations of reality.
“NO! Leave her be Eagle Bear, she is… is wakening from a journey,” an elderly voice croaked, the tone filled with a deep weariness.
“She is on a journey, grandfather?”
The voice now heard was younger, a child’s voice filled with unhidden curiosity.
“Why does she get all the ability in the family…?” the other voice grumbled.
Morgan Green Leaf felt herself float back to reality, taking a deep intake of breath as she finally fell, fully, out of her trance. She immediately shifted her gaze onto her grandfather. He sat on the opposite side of the bonfire, his eyes now appearing tired and worn.
“I lost you,” Morgan stated quietly. She had gone to a place that her elder, her own grandfather, couldn’t even follow to.
The old man nodded gravely. “You have come far, my child. Your ability surpasses even my own.”
Little Feather, her cousin, spoke up curiously. “How is that so, Grandfather? You are the elder and the most skilled shaman on the res? Morgan isn’t even half your age.”
His grandfather smirked crookedly, his ancient, wisdom-filled eyes training upon the boy in an all-knowing manner. “I am ancient, yes. But Green Leaf has a soul far more ancient than my own.” He gazed upon the young woman imploringly. “She has origins that go far beyond this land. Her destiny belongs to another.”
Morgan merely met his gaze with a level stare.
It was a sign that they needed to talk. Alone.
Ian Eagle Bear sighed heavily. His niece, the daughter of his long dead sister, was indeed a mystery. She had abilities that surpassed the reservation’s elder and anyone else with psychic tendencies. The talents of her sights impressed everyone in her family, most of all, her Grandfather.
“Visions of mystery” were what they liked to call them, for they were odd at times. Her visions and trance states did not correlate with the ancient ones of their native land… they were apart of other lands, other native peoples…
She had been dreaming of exotic places since childhood.
Nodding at his father, Ian stood up. He gazed sternly down at Little Feather. “Come on, son, I think it’s about time we head out for a goodnight’s sleep.”
“Now?”
“Yes. Now.”
Grumbling, Little Feather stood. He walked over to his cousin, giving her a hug and a peck on the cheek. “Goodnight Morgan. Grandfather.”
When the two had left, both stared gravely at one another.
“Your trances are beginning to terrify you.”
“Yes,” Morgan replied. “Something is coming, I can feel it.”
Her grandfather smiled kindly to her. “Your mother had a gift… but yours is far different. You sense something coming, something that concerns your destiny. If you remain here, Granddaughter, what was meant to be will not be. You must make the journey that your soul yearns for you to take.”
Morgan smirked at her grandfather. “It yearns for Egypt?” she asked cheekily.
“I have seen some things apart of you with my own soul… I cannot reveal what awaits you. But there, you will find another part of yourself.”
“Just a part of myself, grandfather?”
The old man cackled. “You are far too curious for your own good… Make this journey, Green Leaf. It must be done. And in your journey, you need not fear, you will not be alone.”
Morgan nodded. Her eyes suddenly became distant, as she thought back to her trance state, was it a vision or a mere waking dream with a message? “I felt evil this time, grandfather… real evil. What if it is only beckoning me to it?”
Uncas Running Horse sagged his shoulders, heaving a heavy sigh. “I felt it also. It is strong magick that follows you. It is also in you, my child.”
“Do you… do you think I am different like this because my father was a white man?” Morgan asked with seriousness. “Is it a punishment for me? I am a half breed… and in a way, this makes me even more of an outcast.”
Standing up, her grandfather moved to sit next to her, his hands grasping hers tightly. He gazed at her fiercely as he replied, “Your mother was very different in her ways, much like you. And so, she went where her heart took her. I never faulted her for anything. I am proud of my daughter, just as I am proud of my granddaughter. Never doubt this and never doubt yourself.”
Morgan smiled, kissing her grandfather’s wrinkled cheek. “Thank you… So, oh-wise-one, when shall I begin making this journey you speak of?”
Uncas grinned brightly at her enthusiasm. She would discover truly what awaited her in the exotic lands beyond. He knew. She, however, did not. “I will have your Uncle make arrangements. Your journey shall begin next week.”
More to Come! Please Read and Review!
