Through Catana's Eyes
This is a co authored fic that I did with Kayla...and I was honored to do so! I challenged her to go down the dark path of Jedi slash and she did...with a twist! This OC, Catana, is all hers and she just let me play with her for awhile, and I thank her for that!
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: As always, neither of us own the boys...we just want to make them happy.
Enjoy!
Oh, and this first chapter is all Kayla's, I deserve nothing, but she has been nice enough to let me post it...the rest will be along shortly.
CHAPTER 1 -
“Master...”
“No, Anakin. Not Master anymore. Just Obi-Wan.”
“But you are still lecturing me, aren’t you?” smiled the young Jedi Knight.
“Well, I suppose we both still have much to learn,” Obi-Wan said, slapping his companion on the back. “And now that the braid is gone, you need to...”
The voices of the Jedi abruptly vanished as Catana found her way blocked, her eyes staring at the back of, or more accurately, the hairy posterior of a Wookiee. Catana scrambled around the matted wall, straining to catch sight of the two men into whose care Senator Amidala had placed her. As she pushed her way through the mire of bodies in the ship’s belly, the foul potpourri of odors emanating from the aliens and unwashed humans reminded Catana of the reasons she preferred her own private transportation to the public ones. She was unsure why she and her companions had been relegated to this substandard transport when private flight was available to both the Jedi and the Senator.
Finally, the blonde mane of the young Jedi surfaced above the sea of creatures, sharp lights creating the illusion of a halo framing his face. Nearing him, she again caught wind of the Jedi’s conversation.
“Where is Catana?” Anakin’s eyes scanned the crowd around him. “Padmé would not be pleased if we lost her. I can’t sense her presence. Can you?”
“No, I’m having problems just sensing yours with all these wayward thoughts here. It seems she’s as capable of disappearing as you once were,” said Obi-Wan, looking in vain for the tiny girl. “It was kind of the Senator to offer her maid’s services and, of course, the accommodations. I take it our destination is the same place where you two were hiding prior to the Geonosis incident, that is, before you decided to come and rescue me?”
“Now, Mas...Obi-Wan. No more digs about that. I admit, I was a rather foolish Padawan at that point.”
“Ah, so at last you have found some humility. You did learn something from my teachings.”
“More like lectures than teachings, former Master,” Anakin’s eyes sparkled. “There you are, Catana. You need to stay closer to us. It’s too easy to get lost in these ships.”
“Yes, Jedi Skywalker,” Catana blushed and lowered her eyes from Anakin’s piercing blue stare as was expected from a servant. She was not used to humility and this was a difficult exercise for her, feigning it appropriately. She had just mastered blushing on demand.
“And yes, the house on the lake was where I was protecting Padmé. It is a very calming place where you can work on your mediation again, old man.” Anakin prodded.
“Old man is it now?” Obi-Wan snorted. “Well, you may have surpassed me in skill with a lightsabre, Anakin, but you still won’t beat me in the water. That skill, I intend to prove in the glorious lake I saw in the Holopic.”
“Is that a challenge? A race?” Anakin’s eyes lit up. “You’d be surprised at how much better I swim now.”
“Always up for a challenge, aren’t you?” Obi-Wan smiled. “I can still teach you a thing or two there.”
“Don’t be too sure of yourself,” Anakin chuckled. “No worries, though; after I have accepted your surrender, I’ll still help you out with your fighting skills,” Catana could see how much Anakin was enjoying this goading of his mentor.
“We shall see, Anakin,” Obi-Wan’s eyes laughed, “and then after some sparring, I’ll help you work on your meditation skills, young one.”
Catana enjoyed being in the presence of the two Jedi. Their good-natured banter and easy comradery was a welcome relief from the sterile atmosphere of the Coruscant apartment which had been her home for the last few months. Levity was a rare commodity there. The only ease came when Anakin arrived for his infrequent visits. She reveled in her knowledge of the secret Anakin kept from his companion, the secret of his liaison with the Senator. What would this Master Kenobi think about the nights Anakin spent behind the closed bedroom door of the Senator?
The trip to Naboo remained somewhat uneventful. Catana came to realize that the Jedi, Obi-Wan at least, wished to remain anonymous. They chose to distance themselves from small skirmishes that threatened to erupt into full-scale battles. When a muddied boot flew into Anakin’s lap and the boot’s mate knocked his drink over, chipping the glass in the process, Catana saw his quick move readying to draw his weapon. Obi-Wan cautioned Anakin with what appeared to be a simple stare telling his former apprentice to ignore it. Dealing with the combatants was left in the hands of the transport’s staff.
The three weary travelers soon found themselves disembarking on Naboo and, a boat trip later, docking at the entrance to the lake villa. Catana had seen many worlds in her travel, but none rivaled this for raw beauty. The sharp tree-lined mountains reflected off the crystal lake and the villa flowed seamlessly from the mountain’s base. Catana felt almost wistful that her stay on Naboo would be so short. Now was the time to put in motion her true end game, the reason she had been so willing to play the humble servant. Anakin Skywalker would soon be her captive.
......................................................
“Anakin!” Catana cracked open a sleep deprived eye at the sound of Obi-Wan’s shout. The night had been entirely too short. Why do these Jedi get up so early? her weary mind protested. At least on Coruscant, she had the privilege of rising well after the sun did.
“Come on, Anakin! The sun’s almost up. Get that newly-knighted carcass out here. Time for that swimming lesson.” Catana could hear only pained groans coming from Anakin’s room. She was glad she was not the only one of the three who found this an indecent hour. She hoped Obi-Wan would get the message and leave them both alone.
“Master,” Anakin slipped back into his old moniker for Obi-Wan, “Have you forgotten what the word rest means?”
“Not at all. I just don’t think we should miss any of the glorious day. Catana.” Obi-Wan was determined to have both other members of the household share in his enjoyment or else, thought Catana, he was just a sadist who relished seeing others suffer. She preferred the later interpretation.
“Catana,” he repeated,” are you awake?”
“Yes, Master Jedi,” Catana croaked. How can I not be awake, after all this racket? She wanted to scream at him. “How may I serve you?”
“We will be down at the lake. Please prepare our morning meal and bring it there.”
“No, no, no,” Anakin cried, ”Ignore that lunatic’s orders, Catana.” As she heard the door to Anakin’s room creak open, she knew he had lost the battle. The subsequent thud confirmed that Obi-Wan had managed to at least drag Anakin out of his bed if not to his feet. Catana chuckled at this image as she slipped into her clothes. Well, Obi-Wan might as well enjoy the day with his companion for, by tomorrow, Anakin would be gone, she thought.
Catana carried the food-laden tray to the lake side courtyard. Her sharp eyes caught sight of the swimmers racing toward an invisible finish line, Obi-Wan clearly in the lead. His strokes appeared strong and rhythmic and it seemed as if he was gliding over the water’s surface, barely causing a disturbance in the lake. Anakin’s arms dug deep, churning the water into a frenzy in his wake, sending waves to crash on the shore as he fought against his inevitable defeat. Catana watched as Obi-Wan reached the lake’s edge and abruptly stood, water cascading down his naked body. Catana’s was thankful she was far enough away that her sharp intake of breath could not be heard yet still close enough to feast her eyes on this picture, an unexpected but welcome sight . Obi-Wan turned just as Anakin met the shore. Catana drank in the vision as he rose from the lake and found deep buried feelings of lust threatening to surface. Since the first moment Catana had seen Skywalker on the steps of the Senate building some months ago, she had found him compelling. There was no denying that his handsome features and strong muscular body held great appeal for her, but it was the raw power that Skywalker exuded that she felt could be worth her time. Catana struggled to peel her eyes away from this distraction, thinking that there would be time for that later. Later when she had Skywalker in her ship, when she was returning to her true employer’s lair, she would allow herself some amusement. Her employer’s orders, after all, were to bring her Skywalker unharmed. Catana had no intention of harming him.
But Catana’s eyes were trapped as she saw Anakin throw his arms around his naked companion and press his body against Obi-Wan’s so that they both fell and again were submerged in the water. She thought her mind was deceiving her as she was certain that she had seen Anakin’s mouth make contact with Obi-Wan’s just before they had disappeared into the lake. That thought was soon dismissed as the sound of their laughter broke the air. It seemed that the two Jedi were merely enjoying the aftermath of a good contest, but while Anakin had little choice but to concede defeat in the race, he seemed determined to show he had could win this skirmish.
As the men set foot on the sandy shore and approached the pile of discarded clothing, Catana finally averted her eyes. It would not do to be caught blatantly staring at them. She could hear their chuckles and easy conversation as they neared.
The chatter of the Jedi abruptly stopped and Catana looked up to see Obi-Wan staring intently at her. Catana quickly dropped her eyes, realizing that she had let her thoughts leak.
“I have brought you the morning meal, sirs, and I prepared the fish just as you asked,” Catana meekly said, breathing steadily and slowing her racing heart. She was too close to her goal to make a foolish error, and she swore inwardly at herself.
“Anakin, did you feel that… that small tremor?”
“No, but I can see you did.” Anakin grabbed Obi-Wan’s shoulder. “Relax, Obi-Wan. The war is not on Naboo, remember? That’s why we came here. It was probably nothing. I think you’re just upset because I almost beat you,” said Anakin, trying to make light of Obi-Wan’s concern.
Obi-Wan shook his head. “I hope you’re right. I just have a bad feeling about this.”
“You probably just didn’t get enough sleep last night,” Anakin taunted.
“I...I don’t sense anything now but...well, it was just a flicker.” Obi-Wan looked at Catana who smiled sweetly at him. She had quickly composed and shielded herself again.
“Well, Master Kenobi, I concede defeat to you,” Anakin bowed deeply and by the glint Catana saw in his eye, insincerely. “You are truly the master when it comes to swimming, but I almost had you.”
“It will be a very warm day on Hoth before you best me in the water, Knight Skywalker.” Obi-Wan drew out Anakin’s new title. “I will admit, you have improved. The only reason you thought you ‘had me,’ as you put it, was because you have good speed at the start. You’re still not totally comfortable in the water, though. You need to treat the lake as your friend, not your enemy. Relax in it and you will find your endurance improves.”
“Will I ever be free from your lectures?” Anakin smiled at his friend.
“I suppose when I see you have learned everything I need to teach you. So after our food, shall we get straight to the meditation or would you prefer I helped you again with your lightsabre technique?” Obi-Wan prodded. Catana was amazed at the affection they clearly had for each other. She had not had the luxury of such a friendship and likely never would.
Enjoy!
