CHAPTER I – HER NORMAL LIFE

The clock struck eight and she jumped off her skin….

“Shit… lost track of time…. As always!”

She said looking upon the big clock at the library, she loved to work there, it looked creepy sometimes, one or two people in the whole room… rows and rows of books, dead silence and her reading habit to keep her company.

“Damned clock, only strikes when is shut down time…. Jezzzzz … I’ll have a stroke one of these days” She said smiling to herself closing her Bram Stoker book. “Hum …nice reading, you have to go get another, girl …this one is done!” She walked to the rows of occult fiction and taped her fingers on the books. “Hum…. What haven’t I read” she giggles softly… her eyes stopped on one big brown worn off book… “Hello there! Haven’t seen you around…. Strange…! I do all the registrations of incoming books!!!” She picked up the book…
“Lestat Journal… hum… I can barely see the year…” she forced her eyes to read the date “… 19…. No ….1788 …1788!!!!!!!!!!!!!” She said out loud!!! Suddenly looking around, an old habit you get when working in a public library every time you speak out loud, she realized she was alone.
“It can’t be… 1788… damned you’re an old book…how did you get here?”… She grinned slightly…“No matter, you’re coming with me!!” She said putting the book into her backpack and after checking for people around the library, she it shut down.

She worked there ever since she moved to NY, she bought a small condo around Central Park, she loved the park… her mum and dad used to go flirt there! She worked the noon shift, she wasn’t a day person and liked to be able to appreciate the nightlights from her condo or just wander around in Central Park at night and glance at the sky. She rushed home as she usually did, basically to feed Fangs, her black cat, she lived for her and her feline companion, and she didn’t crave for anything else but that! Her normal everyday life, her cat, her vampire-book worm habit…it had been like that for the last 10 years of her 29 years old life!! But that was about to change.

“Fangs? Here boy…come to mummy…” She said putting food into the bowl… a massive black cat purred out from her bedroom. The condo had bedroom, living room, bathroom and a small but fully applied kitchen. She bough the top floor of the building, it was those old rustic building on the park side, she had it remodelled with the money her parents left on their will. Bedroom and living room window facing the park, all walls were soundproof glass from top to bottom so she could look over the park and starlight sky. No blinds to cover the light coming in, at least not at night. The roof of the living room was the same material, no concrete ceiling just glass.

The deco in the condo was modern, everything in purples and black, gothic styles with candles everywhere, all very simple but very personal. Bookshelves with tones of books, a huge 52’ flat screen black trinitron heading her home theatre system. Dvd player and recorder, triple frontal woofer set coupled with 8 sound satellites for that extra jump on the seat, and her tapes all very expensive and very up to date. Her room had a huge round bed with purple satin sheets and two bed stands with lamps hovering over them from the ceiling; over the bed a painting of the moon light over the sea. Bathroom was all in marble white and black. The light in the condo was obtained all through candles and candelabras with candle like lamps all around the 4 areas.

She looked at the huge black cat as it made its way lazily to her, stretching its limbs from the heavy sleep it had done during her absence. Its eyes glowing like two gold orbs in the blackness of the room.

“Come here you big lazy mutt!” Fangs purred and rubbed itself on her legs… “You do look like a mutt you now…so big, people would think you’re a dog! “ She laughed as she caressed Fangs fur.

She let herself into her night ritual, feed Fangs, watch him eat, take her bath, shove something down her throat, she wasn’t the eating type, only the necessary and not much either. Dressed up her white tunic black jeans, high heal boots, and her long black satin coat with gothic sleeves, she put on her silver choker, and the bracelets that matched it, a set of tree pieces of jewellery she always wore, the choker covered the whole of her neck from top to the collar bones and all around it, as did the bracelets covered her wrists fully, a simple set only decorated with a Ankh cross centred in each of the pieces. She picked up her headphones her evanescence tape and books and left the apartment roaming into the night to her secret place.
