CHAPTER 1
3 months after AWE - ELIZABETH

Life for Elizabeth Swann had never been boring, well at least not in the most recent years. Now, just three months into being Elizabeth Turner, the pirate king was getting bored. She sat on the beach patting her stomach, talking to the only part of Will Turner that could hear her. The only part of him she would have for the next 10 years. She was lonely. She continued her gaze until the sun set, memories of her one-day with her husband weighing heavy on her mind. Thoughts clouded her head. One day every ten years, leaves maybe five days of her whole life to actually live the life she’d longed for. Only one day to tell him of all the joys their son would bring her for the first ten of his. Her heart was slowly breaking. She lacked companionship: she lacked her love.

She recalled her days in Port Royal. Her friend Will, the orphan pirate boy they had rescued from the wreckage of a sinking ship. Her first true friend and only true love. No one had cared for her like he had. Then her thoughts turned to his death and rebirth as Captain Turner, the Ferryman. Jack had finally become the good man she always knew he was that day. After all, she had become the pirate he had known her to be too. It had to have been hard for him to give up his immortality to give her a little more time with Will. Little being more than the operative word. The more she thought about it the more she missed that Sparrow. His antics always caused her grief, although she never quite thought it intentional. He always seemed to come through for her, just like he had that day on the Dutchman. Maybe one day she would meet him again. Hopefully by then he’ll be a little more forgiving about his stint in the locker. However something told her that he’d already forgiven her for that. His actions had spoken for him. He may never forget it but he’d forgiven her.

JACK

Jack rolled over and stretched his legs, waking from his little catnap. He looked around to regain his bearings and found he wasn’t quite where he had dreamt himself to be. He had dreamed of a long ago conversation with a murderess lass whom he had saved from death numerous times. “Curiosity” he mumbled and laughed to himself reaching for his empty bottle of rum. “So this is what being a good man brings me, eh?” A smaller image of himself reminded him “Bugger being a good man…we have no rum!”

“I am captain of a great ship, yet I’m always in a dinghy.” Jack said to himself frustrated.

“That’s because ye were too busy trying to forget all about that Lizzie lass by way of Giselle and Scarlet when ye should have been watching yer ship since Barbossa was around.” The other little version of him stated rather mockingly.

“SHUT IT!” he screamed making the little visions disappear. Damn he was tired of the insanity his stay in the locker had created. Ok well maybe it didn’t create it, but it certainly intensified it. It’s all Lizzie’s fault these little people won’t leave me alone. And why must they like her so much?

“Now if me compass is right, which it always is, me ship shouldn’t be that far off.” He stated to himself, and sure enough, he was right. For floating off on the horizon were black sails.

6 months after AWE ELIZABETH

“I wonder if your Uncle Jack and Barbossa have killed each other Willy. I wonder if your father misses me as much as I him.” Elizabeth had grown fairly used to talking to her ever-expanding belly, asking him questions he obviously wouldn’t be able to answer. After all it was the only connection she had to anything or anyone she had known. Sure she had met some new people in the village, but no one would believe her nor think she were sane if she explained her husbands whereabouts and she certainly wasn’t accepted with open arms into the community as a woman with child and no man by her side.

She stood and looked out to the horizon. “Please Will if you can hear me. I love you, but I need more than this.” Tears began to fill her eyes as she turned from her perch and returned to her home.

JACK

He chuckled to himself quite proud of his accomplishments. As he slowly stroked his ships wheel and watched Barbossa work alongside Ragetti. It hadn’t taken much to get the crew, his crew, to turn on Barbossa and reclaim his ship. After all, he was Captain Jack Sparrow, and he did actually have the part of the map that really mattered. He stared at the horizon and could swear he saw a green flash. He chuckled to himself, “silly Eunuch.” He took another pull from his water bottle…yes water. It was sure to let him live forever; he may as well drink some more to be sure.

One Year After AWE JACK

“Ye know Mr. Gibbs, if ye’d just drink the water you could avoid this entire death thing entirely.”

“No Jack, unnatural it is. Frightful bad luck it tis. Rather ‘ave me rum.” Gibbs muttered out, all life drifting from his eyes.

“Aye mate. Send my regards to Captain Turner.”

Gibbs had turned ill sometime ago. Refused to drink from the fountain everyday he lay dying. Jack never understood why. When faced with death one would think immortality a much better option; he had. Gibbs seemed to think rum was; oddly enough it was probably what put him in the state he was in, in the first place, but it made the man happy.

The oceans to his starboard opened revealing a much friendlier looking Dutchman.

“Captain Sparrow,” came a voice all to familiar to his ears.

“Captain Turner, come to claim me first mate as it were.”

“Aye, but only if he wishes to be claimed.” He paused a moment before turning to Jack, “Can I have a word with you Jack?”

“Do I really have a choice in the matter,” Jack muttered to himself as Will appeared on his deck in the same manner Davy Jones used to.

“How’s Elizabeth?” Will asked, getting right to the point.

“How should I know mate. Ye were the last to see ‘er.” He could hear another version of himself mutter an inaudible response “and who’s bloody fault is that Jackie?”

“I was hoping she would find you. I don’t like the idea of her being alone. I would hope that since you cared enough to let me live that ye might care enough to see to it that she doesn’t spend the rest of her life alone.” Wills eyes seemed sad, pleading, but strangely hollow.

“William, what exactly are ye asking me?” Jack asked slightly confused by what he was hearing. He couldn’t quite tell if he was listening to Will or the little Jack again.

“I’m asking you to care for her Jack. I have no choice but to spend 10 years without her, but that doesn’t mean she should spend 10 years without anyone. I love her Jack. And I know, that no matter how much you hide it, you do too. Please Jack. All I want is for her to be there when I come ashore…she needs love every day, not every decade. To spend her life waiting for me isn’t fair, and I know you’re the only other man she loves.”

“William, I admit to nothing and make no promises. But if I should come across yer bony lass, I will offer her a spot on me crew. After all I do have an opening it seems. One fit for a king.” His head turned to Gibbs’ passing form as his mind tried to process the open invitation her husband had just handed him.

“Thank you, Jack. Please give her this.” He passed over a sealed letter before crossing back over to the Dutchman and disappearing into the depths, Gibbs along with him.

ELIZABETH

She strolled across the docks that had once been ships. She inhaled deeply and let a smile cross her lips as the familiar scent of rum and sea filled her nostrils, the essence of piracy. Willy was sleeping quite soundly in his mothers’ arms. She smiled when she looked at him, unable to ignore the uncanny resemblance to his father. Shipwreck City would become her home, their home. After all, she was a pirate lord and king; people she could at least be herself around might as well surround her. Then she might even have someone to talk to, dare she say a friend. Maybe that would bring her some happiness, even if it wasn’t the happiness she had planned when she was a child.

As she walked into the city, she was quickly identified as pirates of all heritages tipped their hats in her direction. She felt at home. She spoke a silent thanks to Jack; after all his uncharacteristic unselfish act had made her king. The she thought it wasn’t the first time he had been unselfish to her. She wondered where he was these days. She hadn’t seen him in a year, and whether she wanted to admit it, she missed him. She doubted he missed her though…. after all once was more than enough. She could still hear those words coming from his mouth. Something deep within her didn’t believe them.

“Mrs. Turner….”

Her head spun at the familiar voice behind her. “Captain Barbossa.” She acknowledged.

“Aye. In the flesh. What brings ye back to Shipwreck city?” he asked, his eyes turning to the young boy in her arms.

“I’ve come to live here. Figured the youngest Turner needed to grow up in an accepting environment.” She smiled at her son. “After all, there’s a bit of pirate in his blood. He may as well be aware of it.”

Chuckling at that Barbossa nodded in agreement. “Well Missy. Pirate Lords always have a shelter here. I can show ye if you would like.”

“Aye.” She responded before following the elder man into the city.

2 Years after AWE – Elizabeth

“Willy you stay with Uncle Barbossa mommy has to go into town for a bit.” She kissed the boy on the head and handed him to his uncle. She had never expected Hector Barbossa to be so good with children, guess it was all those years he spent playing father to a monkey. It was almost comical, but he had been around from time to time to check on her. She never would have expected it from the man, but he was a friendly face and was apparently willing to help, though his motives still very unclear. As she walked through the maze of halls into the town she noticed a familiar swagger walking ahead of her.

“Captain Teague” she shouted to get the older mans attention. The man stopped and turned on his heels to face her, if it hadn’t been the voice he’d longed to hear he would have lashed out at the case of mistaken identity.

“Ye know luv if it weren’t for the fact that I share a blood line with that man and he does have the same strikingly handsome features as meself I would be somewhat insulted that you think me to be that …. “ He looked around as if looking to assure the elder man wouldn’t hear him, “old.”

She ran to him wrapping her arms around his neck in a strikingly sudden embrace. “I’ve missed you Jack.” He thought he heard tears in her voice, but he wasn’t about to think she would actually well up over his presence.

Taken back a little, Jacks arms slowly wrapped around her. “I’m only allowing this because there aren’t any masts around to shackle me to.” Silently, the greeting he’d received elated him, maybe it wouldn’t be that hard to convince her to come with him.

“Jack…” She moved her head to face him, still unwilling to release him from their embrace, but eventually she did. “It has been entirely too long.” Secretly she’d longed for this day since Will had left, she’d come to realize she’d missed him more than she’d missed Will.

“Well it took me a little while to find ye, luv.” Jack muttered, without realizing he’d actually spoken the words until she responded. Sometimes he couldn’t separate his statements from the mini versions of himself. Silently he cursed himself, shouldn’t he still be a little concerned about her motives?

“You were looking for me?” Her eyes perked up revealing a happiness long forgotten.

Again, he caved. It was as if the little Jack in his brain was talking for him. “Aye. After I found the fountain of youth I figured you couldn’t do much damage to me person any longer so I may as well find ye and make sure ye be ok.” He looked at his shoes. She didn’t need to know he really wanted to find her the minute he left, and he was certainly not going to tell her that Will had basically given him the go ahead he needed. “Just wasn’t so sure you’d want to see me again, but judging by the stranglehold you just had on me person my assumption was rather wrong. Unless of course it was another ploy to send me back to me death.”

“Jack,” she quickly hugged him again. “I’ve been waiting 2 long years to see you again.” She released him and smiled at him before “I’ve someone I want you to meet.” She took him by the hand and practically pulled him back to her residence without giving him any options. She would ignore the little digs at what she had done. After all, she had killed him. That’s not something someone would forget.

She opened the door as quietly as possible in case Willy was napping. Barbossa greeted her, “Back so soon?” he questioned.

“Aye. I ran into Jack.” She answered as she ran off to get Willy from his crib.

“Did I hear that mutinous Barbossa in there?” Jack asked as he entered the room, his eyes met his traitorous first mate with mock surprise, “what are you doing here?”

“Same could be said for you Jack. Didn’t think you’d ever show,” he smirked at him knowingly, “How’s me ship?” Barbossa laughed. If it weren’t for Elizabeth being in the other room she probably would have noticed the strange greeting the two shared.

“MY ship is perfectly fine, not that it’s any business of yours.” Jack stated rather defensively.

“Don’t worry Jack, I won’t be borrowing it again. I have other matters to tend to. Although, I’ve heard you’re in the market for a new first mate…my condolences.” He turned his attention back to shout to Elizabeth. “Mrs. Turner, ill be heading out now. Seems you and Jack have some catching up to do.” Barbossa eyed Jack as he strolled leisurely out of the room.

“Thank you Barbossa!” Elizabeth yelled from the other room before walking in with her son in her arms. “Willy, I want you to meet your Uncle Jack.”

Jack’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head as the littlest Turner looked back at him while reaching out to tug on his dangles. His eyes then turned to Elizabeth’s, “Guess the eunuchs not a eunuch after all.”

“Jack, must you always.” Elizabeth shook her head. “I miss him.”

“Sorry.” He muttered, somewhat uncomfortable for the first time. “I didn’t know what else to do at the time. Just didn’t want to see you lose him, not after your father. Though I guess you did lose ‘im anyways, eh.”

“Jack, you did what you thought was right and I’m thankful for that. None of us really understood that curse, but everyday it gets a little easier,” that was a lie, “I wouldn’t have Willy if it weren’t for what you did.” She smiled at him thankful for the little boy who kept her sane. “Besides he’s frequently my only company since his Uncle Jack never comes for a visit.” She placed the young man in Jacks arms rather abruptly and turned to sit making a face that would make even the meanest of men feel somewhat guilty.

“Really does look like his father, eh.” Jack eyed the boy suspiciously suddenly feeling the need to move the topic from his lack of visits.

“Right on down to his smile.” Elizabeth chuckled, “makes it hard to forget about him ye know.” Her voice sounded somewhat melancholy, her eyes devoid of the passion they once held, it was as if Will’s non-death had killed her.

“I saw him not too long ago.” His eyes turned to hers unsure of how she would take the news.

“How? When?” She searched his face for an answer.

“’Bout a year ago when Gibbs passed on.”

“Gibbs died?? Jack I’m so sorry.” She tried not to press him for details on her husband knowing the Gibbs was Jacks best friend, but she needed to know how he was.

“Not important now.” Jack Sparrow wasn’t a man to grieve but he did miss the man, “Wills fine.” His eyes turned to hers, “Misses you he does. Wants for you to find happiness.” He thought about handing her the letter but couldn’t right then. She spoke again.

“Hard to be truly be happy when you’re alone all the time with none other than a baby to keep you company.” There was some venom in her voice, but she took her son back from Jack and hugged him tightly. “Not that I don’t love this little guy here.” She kissed his head. “But it would be nice to be loved by someone else from time to time.”

Jack eyes immediately left hers and sought the ground. How was he supposed to tell her that he husband wished for her to be with him? That would sound entirely ridiculous, and he had heard it from Will himself. His head spun, the comment had left him with plenty of opportunity to pass his normal lewd innuendos her way, which wouldn’t make the message he had to relay any easier. “What say you join me crew? With Gibbs gone I could use a new first mate, and who better than a pirate king to fulfill the duty.”

Sensing something else behind his proposition she rebutted, “A ship is no place for a boy Jack.”

“That’s not entirely true luv. Look at me. I grew up on a ship and I turned out just fine.” He smiled confidently yet there was some doubt behind it.

“Oh yes a womanizing, rum obsessed pirate. Perfectly fine.” She chuckled to herself.

“Rum obsessed maybe, but it’s been quite some time since I’ve been in the company of a woman.” He scoffed. “Sad as that may seem,” he mumbled to himself. Truth be told he didn’t want any other woman, he wanted her, and anytime he was able to forget about wanting her, something got in the way; like his ship being stolen. That’s why it took him so bloody long to find her. He wasn’t entirely prepared to deal with that concept, no matter what the bloody compass or that pesky mini sized Jack had to say about it. How could he just change his whole lifestyle for her? Especially when he had his own reasons for living said lifestyle.

“Jack Sparrow. Has the legend lost his touch?” She laughed at him.

“Lost something, as it were.” He looked around uncomfortably and noticed the mini jack on his shoulder “Turner’s isn’t the only heart she holds.” Like he needed to remind himself. Needing to ignore the image He resumed his conversation with her, “think I may have found it now,” he’d hoped she heard the comment but wasn’t giving her enough time to respond to it, “But still you have not answered my question, what say you Elizabeth, to joining me crew once again?”

“Life has been somewhat boring these last two years.” She mused, smiling at the clearly nervous pirate before her and questioning what his previous statement had actually meant.

“Good it’s settled then! You and the lad meet me at the docks in the morning. I have some other business to attend to while I’m here.” With that he rose from his seat and headed out the door. Giving Elizabeth little time to even think about what had just happened, but a smile she had long forgotten existed crept across her face.
