Chapter 1
Luke, Leia, and Han exited the Ewok village. Their comrades still celebrating their victory didn’t notice the trio leave. Once back on the ground, Han began speaking.
“What was it you wanted to show us Luke?” Han asked.
“This,” Luke answered coldly.
Suddenly twenty stromtroopers surrounded them. Han held Leia tightly as he stared into the eyes of his best friend. Leia too stared at her twin. She gasped when she saw who stepped out of the shadows and came to rest beside her brother.
“You’ve done well my son,” Vader said.
“Thank you father,” Luke nodded, never taking his eyes off Leia and Han.
“How could you!” Han demanded as he pushed Leia behind him.
Leia let out a shriek as Han fell to the ground, his chest sliced open from Luke’s light saber. She frightfully looked into the eyes of her brother. They were no longer the clear blues they used to be, but the red and yellow of a Sith.
“Why Luke? Why are you doing this?” she cried.
“This is my destiny Leia. To rule the Empire with our father,” Luke replied coldly.
“No. Please, don’t do this,” Leia pleaded as he raised his light saber.
“Fulfill your destiny Luke,” Vader encouraged.
“Noooo!” Leia screamed as Luke’s saber came down on her.
Luke jerked awake gasping for air and dripping with sweat. His real hand placed over his heart as he tried to catch his breath. Slowly, his heart rate and breathing returned to normal. He looked around his bedroom.
He was in his apartment on Coruscant. It had been nine years since the battle of Endor and the defeat of the Empire. The Rebellion was now the New Republic. His twin sister was Chief-of-State, married to his best friend Han Solo, and they had three beautiful children. Four year old twins Jaina and Jacen, and two year old Anakin.
‘Why am I having these nightmares?’ he thought as he shakily climbed out of bed.
He threw on his robe, hooked his light saber to the belt of the robe and stepped out onto his balcony. He sighed as the night breeze washed over him. He stared out over the city, watching the twinkling lights.
‘Is the Force trying to tell me something? Is it simply trying to show me what would have happened had I joined father? But why now?’ he sighed.
For the past three months he had been having nightmares. All showing the same thing. Him joining his father and killing Han and Leia. He would watch as he and Vader hunted down and destroyed the Rebellion and ruling the Empire as father and son.
‘What should I do? Oh Ben, I wish I could talk to you or Yoda. I need your advise,’ he thought.
With one last look at the unchanging city, he turned and re-entered the apartment. Initially, he had doubts about the New Republic setting up government on Coruscant. Now, he appreciated the city planet. Through the Old Republic, the Clone Wars, the rise of the Empire, the war against the Rebellion, and now the New Republic, Coruscant had remained virtually unchanged.

“Mara, are you sure?” Talon questioned as he sat behind his desk.
“Talon, I need a break. I feel like I’m getting burned out. For the past year it seems all I’ve done is one trade run after another. Yes that’s my job as a Master Trader, but even Master Trader’s need a break,” Mara answered.
Talon looked at his second-in-command, Jedi Knight, Master Trader, former Emperor’s Hand, and friend. He remembered when she first joined his organization five years ago. Then, she was a closed, cold woman. She had been hiding her past and had a deep desire to kill Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
Now, she was private, but was more open with those she trusted, which were few. The very same man she wanted to kill was now probably one of her best friends. A year ago, Luke had completed her training at his successful academy on Yavin IV. Mara was a full fledged Jedi Knight and occasionally taught weapons training at the academy.
“I guess I understand. How long?” Talon questioned.
“Say a month,” Mara replied.
“Where will you go? Yavin?” he asked.
“I was thinking of going to Coruscant. Leia has been asking me to visit. Plus Skywalker is there right now. I’ve been slacking on my saber training and could use a refresher course,” she stated.
“Alright. A month it is. When do you plan on leaving?” he nodded.
“Four days. I’ll make the arrangements for my runs and duties. Save you the headache,” she smirked.
“Okay. Don’t forget to say bye before you leave and let me know when you reach Coruscant,” he smiled.
“Thanks Karrde,” she said.
With a soft smile, a nod of her head and shaking his hand, she left his office. There was another reason she wanted time off; a more personal one. Two days ago, she had received a transmission from Leia. As Mara headed for her cabin, she replayed the conversation.
*Two Days Ago*
“Mara, it’s Leia,” Leia said.
“Well, this is a surprise,” Mara replied.
“Mara, it’s Luke,” Leia sighed.
“Uh-oh. What trouble has that Farmboy brother of your gotten into now?” Mara joked.
“There’s something wrong with him. He’s becoming more reclusive,” Leia said worriedly.
“Reclusive? How so?” Mara asked, getting a worried feeling at the tone of Leia’s voice.
“I know he’s been having nightmares, bad ones, for almost three months now. He’s been plagued nightly by them. He refuses to talk to anyone,” Leia explained.
“How is this causing him to be reclusive?” Mara questioned.
“He hasn’t been by to see the children in over a month. He only leaves his apartment to go to the gym for saber practice. Artoo told 3PO that Luke is almost afraid to go to sleep now. He spends many nights taking stimpills,” Leia elaborated.
“Have you tried talking to him?” Mara inquired.
“Yes, but two weeks ago he stopped answering his commlink all together and hasn‘t left his apartment since,” Leia sighed.
“Alright. I’ll be meeting up with the KARRDE tomorrow. I’ll take time off and come to Coruscant. I’ll be there in about six days,” Mara stated.
“Thank you Mara. Han and I will meet you. I’ll contact you with the landing information,” Leia replied, relieved.
“I’ll do what I can to help him,” Mara vowed.
*Present Day*
Mara quickly began packing her things. As she packed, she tried to keep her thoughts straight. ‘I hope the Force will guide me in how to help Luke. I also hope he’ll talk to me,’
Mara and Luke’s relationship was an interesting one. When she first met him, all she wanted was to kill him because she was still partially under Palpatine’s influence. Thanks to Luke, she was able to sever the final hold Palpatine held over her. If it hadn’t been for Luke, she would have killed him. He had saved her and now, he was her best friend.
“Hang on Luke, I’m coming,” she whispered.
