Upset the Established Order

By Thomas Schiff and Guest Writer ReapingGrin

Soft chatter echoed against the cold stone walls. In the distance crazed screams and moans of sorrow fell upon the ear sending chills down the new comers spine. She kept her head up acting as confident as ever, but that's all it ever was. A game ... an act. She flinched once as an inmate seemed to come out of nowhere grasping onto the small bars of his window and screamed yanking upon them trying to break them free of their steal binding. The doctor walking with her and the other two guards placed a hand upon her should noticing her jump slightly. He spoke to her in a stern tone.

"My dear you must stay more aware of your surroundings. They know when you are off guard and that is when they will take advantage of it and likely kill you. I am hoping I can talk you out of this Doctor Quinzell." Harley strighted herself annoyed that she was seen at a weak point. Her hand ran over herhair pulling the strand that had fallen loose back into her bun, and adjusted her glasses.

"If this is your way to try taking this case away from me Doctor you will have to try better then that. I do believe I heard Doctor Arkham say that you were not in good enough shape or skill to handle a case like this." A proud smirk crossed her lips as the doctor growled at having those words thrown in his face again.

"Well Miss Quinzell lets just hope that The Joker doesn't kill you in the first week..." The guards came to a stop infront of a cell that had a prisoner number on it then under it read "Unknown" Harley glanced around her heart pounding so hard she could have sworn the other three men could have heard it. The guards worked on releasing the locks and a highpitched groan came from the door as it was pulled open.

Joker sat on his cot like bed staring blankly at the wall. He heard the door open and squinted slightly as the lights in his cell where turned on. He continued to stare at the wall a moment before a wide smile spread across his face and he slowly looked over to see the blond girl enter his cell, alone.

Everything everyone ever told her about him was true his very presence was unnerving. Harley however kept a cool demiener and stepped into the cell. She could have sworn that she was just seconds away from dying of a heart attack, but she could not die in the first week she would not let that idiot doctor be right.

"Good Afternoon..." She said in a smooth tone acting as if she was un phased by his smile. "As you may know I'm the doctor assigned to rehabilitate you... My Name is Doctor Harleen Quinzell..." She paused a moment to take hold of a chair set in the room for her. Looking it over and deaming it safe to take a seat she did and shifted her legs to allow one to rest over her knee. Harleen allowed herself to rest the clipboard in her hand attached to the back of it was a small panic button if things got too out of control.

"Well hello beautiful." Joker said licking the side of his mouth. Naturally he would have brushed his unruly curls into attempted submission but seeing as how the straight jacket he wore stopped him, he didn't. He continued to smile at her with that famous Glasgow smile of his.

"That's Doctor Quinzell Thank You.. If you would like I can help you pronounce it.. Say it with me Doc... Tor.... Quinn.... Zell... It should be easy for someone like you ...." She flipped through some papers looking over some graphs and notes taken from other doctor pausing at one that wore a stain the looked an aweful lot like blood.

Joker leaned forward on the cot slightly and clicked his lips. "I'm not stupid Doc-tor..." He said. "I know very well what you're name is. The thing you should really be asking yourself is... do I care?"

"I believe that will be the easiest answer either of us will obtain in this session am I correct Mr......?" she knew he would not give a straight answer but it was always worth a try. As she waited for his answer Harleen allowed her gaze move past him taking notes on objects and scratches on the walls.

"Just Joker." He said. "I have no other name."

"That you'll admit to.." She replied jotting down some more notes as her eyes fell back upon him.

"Tell me.. Mister Joker.. you hide behind this face of a clown making people fear it.... Why? Is it one of your own fears?" She was skipping all of the Icebreakers she was trained to use and jumping into shark infested waters.

Joker leaned back against the wall behind him and raised an eyebrow, his tongue darting out of his mouth just slightly before disappearing again.

"And why exactly should I answer you're questions?" Joker asked.

"Mm..." Harleen started writing again this time though she read outloud as she wrote. "Subject seems to fear answering questions..."

She moved to the next question. "Alright, I hear you like to tell fantastic stories about your scars... Please Mister Joker... Since you are afraid to answer my questions why not tell me a story.. Maybe I will find my own answer in them..."

"You're not a very qualified doctor are you Mrs. Quinn." He said more than asked. "It's very unethical for you to take my simple question of 'Why?' and turn it into some deep seeded fear I may have."

"Do you honestly believe they would place someone unqualified on your case Mister Joker?" Harleen arched her brow slightly giving him an unimpressed stare. Her instincs were telling her to back off but she kept on with her tuanting.

"What is it you are willing to talk about Mister Joker." She asked in a lighter tone, knowing well enough that no change of tone would work with this one.

"Well maybe you should find a question I'd be willing to answer." He said. He never made it easy on his doctors. Why should he?

"What is it you hate most about being here?" Since he would not answer her questions she would go back to idle questions that served no real purpose.she took her eyes from the clipboard and looked up at him.

"I think a shorter, less time consuming answer would be for the question 'What do I like about being here.'" He said. "What don't I like? This straight jacket for one."

"All dangerous paitents wear them in in treatment.." Harleen said with an acknowleging nod. "I can understand they are quite uncomfortable..." She did not bother writing any of this down. "We had to learn how to put them on a paitent and since I was the most flexable I was the one placed in it." Giving more information then she ever should to the mad man was another hint of her truely underqualified state.

"Anything else you would like to add Mister Joker?"

"Ah I bet you liked it. Being all restrained."

Harleen glanced up to him and rested the end of the pen in her mouth bitting upon it lightly. She withdrew the pen and set it in her lap with the clipboard. "I like it no more then you do Mister Joker."

"Than take if off me." Joker said his tongue once again darting out. "I promise I'll be a good little boy. And I'll answer any question you ask." He said. He leaned forward as if telling her a secret. "But only one."

Maybe she belonged in a cell too becasue she actually was debating on releasing him. Afterall she did have the panic button. Then again what would they say if they came in and saw him loose? Maybe she could say he somehow broke free. Ooooh what to do!

"Why should I trust you?" She asked skeptically.

He leaned back again and shrugged through his straight jacket. "You shouldn't. But where's the fun in that?" He asked running his tongue along the inside of his cheek. "It's all... part of the game."

"Turn around and face the wall" She said knowing all too well that she was making a very poor choice.

Joker smirked and lifted his legs. He spun around on this cot so he could sit cross legged facing the wall.

Setting her clipboard on the chair she stepped forward hesitating a moment before allowing her fingers to press against that cool leather strap that hugged his arms tightly against his body. Pulling upon it soon the first strap was loose, and she moved to the next one. She was on the last one when she hesitated again. This last strap would free him completely, knowing this she still released the final strap.

The Joker smiled as he pulled his arms loose, shaking his arms out of the sleeves and unbuckling the strap between his legs. He turned around and threw the offending material to the floor. Beneath the straight jacket he just wore a plain gray short sleeved shirt that matched the Arkham issued pants he wore.

Harleen took a few steps away from him. Standing tall she tried to give a false sense of confidence in her actions, after all the doctors here told her one thing to never forget. 'don't let them think you are scared.' At this moment she was beyond scared.

"Thank you Mrs. Quinn." He said sitting back down. He was acting surprisingly civil.

This was not what she had expected at all. She lowered her guard a bit more. "It's Ms. And please just call me Doctor Quinzell..." She reminded him again.

"All right Ms. Quinn." He said smiling at her knowing he was starting to get to her.

"We have been off topic long enough..." She removed those glasses she wore and tucked them into her labcoat pocket. "You said you would answer any question I had" She had the question and the chance to maybe get an honest answer.

"I did." He said. "And I'm a man of my word."

Harleen leaned forward just a bit as her mind ran over all the questions she could ask, ones that could explain a lot about him others she wanted to know for her own selfish reasons. She also knew that is she left this room with an amazing peice of information maybe the doctors around here would take her more serious. "Mister Joker....." She paused...

"Well?" Joker asked. "I can't very well read you're mind now can I? Oh but that would be an interesting thing to do. I should talk to Jervis later." He laughed.

"You would be overwhelmed with the questions I want to ask." She stated then took a deep breath. "What made you who you are today What caused you to .. to put it in a rough term "Snap."

"That's two questions." Joker said looking at his nails on one hand. "And if I may be so bold as you uh... answer you're question with a question... What made YOU snap?" He asked.

"No it was one questionjust worded differently the second time..." Harleen was becoming annoyed with this now. "Since you went back on your word...." She removed the panic button from the clipboard. "Last chance ..."

"If you where listening correctly you'd actually realize I did answer you're question. If you would answer mine you would have you're answer."

"The session is over then..." Harleen stood and moved tward the door. "I can not answer that."

"This session is not over." Joker said. "I have not finished answering your question. You see... Doctors... like you... they ask questions, and they want answers but the one thing they never stop to think about is... maybe the patient CAN'T answer. Because they don't know."

"What do you mean you Don't know?!" She was looking for a more fantastic answer then 'I Don't know' She was even more frustrated now. "You function at such a high level you play mind games with doctors who have been well established in their feilds and so forth and you are telling me you don't know why ya want to kill steal lie blow things up and cause Chaos?" A bit of that Jersey accent slipping in the more annoyed she got with him. "Bull shit Mistah Joker"

"See no... you asked my why I snapped. Not why I kill people." He smirked. "Ask the right questions. Why I kill people... blow things up things like that. I do it cause I can. Cause I felt like it. And because there was no one to stop me."

"But now there is... And last I checked..... He is the reason you are in here today am I correct?" She snapped at him more then asked.

"Mmm.... yes he was another reason I did it. I wanted to see what he'd do."

"You have almost an obsession with him now.... Is that correct?" Harleen asked him, as if she was one to talk. He had once again recaptured her attention.

"Obsession is such a strong word." Joker said. "I prefer... interest." He said. "See the way I see it is people hide behind a mask, but never show it. Batman... he has a physical mask. This is what caught my attention."

"As do you... He chose a bat..... You choose a clown..." She paused leaning against the cell door. "Why?"

He sat there for about five seconds as if lost in thought before seeming to snap out of it and looked up at her. "Why what?"

Pushing off of the cell door she moved back to the chair. "Why is the physical mask you wear that of clown make-up?"

Joker sat and leaned forward resting his weight on his arms balanced on his knees. "I don't know. Just seemed.... fitting."

She found herself leaning forward as well her clipboard cast aside no note were being taken this interest in him was all for personal gain. "The scars then.. I've read several different stories about them. Not one told is the same as the other.... What's the truth....?"

For a moment Joker seemed like he was about to answer her. He paused and looked up at her. "I'll make you a deal. You do a favor for me. And I'll answer you're question. One question per favor. I get what I want, you get what you want."

She was throwing all of her "training" aside. She was more interested in getting actual facts from him then his wild stories. "Deal..."

Joker at first was shocked that she had accepted but hid it well. "Alright... my first favor is simple. I want a mug of coffee." He said. "Three cream four sugar." He smiled at her.

Harleen wrinkled her nose. "You like it very sweet.... Never would have figured that..." She moved to the door and slid the window open. "Gurad... This is going to take longer then I expected will you have someone grab me a Coffee Three Cream four sugars..." without waiting for the guards responce she slid the window shut again.

Joker smiled. "Thank you." He said though it sounded more sarcastic than sinsear.

"We had a deal Mister Joker...." She would await his answer.

"Oh right... the scars." He said nonchalantly. "There are only two stories I've told. And both are true." He saw her confused expression and sighed deciding to explain more. "This side..." he said pointing to his right scar. "Was done by my father. Came home drunk, killed my mother blah blah blah all that rot. This side..." He put his hand to his other scar and paused as if remanising on something he didn't want to remember.

It was crazy! She was starting to feel sorry for him. "I see..." She paused a moment as she let her eyes trace over the scars. Holding out her hand she asked. "May I examin them more closely?" Her fear of him was slowly starting to fade as was actually starting to trust him.

He quickly batted her hand away. "No." He said simply.

She hid her disapointment well. The loud bang on the door helped she moved to the door opening the window once more and accepting the coffee from the guard. Looking over the Coffee she slid the pannel shut and seated herself once more but not offering him the coffee he requested. She leaned back into the chair and took a sip from it. "Blah... Sweetened tar...."

"Gimme." He said holding his hand out to it. It was very childish of him but he was starting to go through caffeine withdrawal.

"Why? You gave me a freebie... Never answer anything untill you get what you want... I'm willing to sit and drink this crap infront of you until I get what I want from you now..." She took another drink and winced once more at the horrid taste.

"Fine... drink it I don't care." He shrugged. "Not like you're the first person to have lied to me."

She took one more sip from it and then smirked and held it out to him. "Come get it if you want it then." This would force him to move closer to her and she would at least get a better look.

"You know... you are really pushing your luck little girl. You have NO idea what you're getting yourself into." He said leaning forward and taking the cup from her.

"Sometimes a woman has to get into some trouble to get what she wants. She pulled the coffee back just a bit her eyes narrowing as she was able to get a good look at his one cheek.

"What scar was from your Father Mister Joker" She asked allowing him to take the cup from her hand.

He pointed to the right one, the one that was more smooth and curved like a smile.

"Did you kill him?" She asked oncemore leaning back in her chair.

"No." Joker said simply. "He was arrested, got six months and was released." He sighed. "He was a cop. He lost his job, became an alcoholic. After my scars healed I went to go see him. Showed him what he did to his son." He paused, his coffee held in his hand forgotten as he remembered his past. "They found him three days later hung in his bathroom."

"That's too bad...." She uttered softly as she looked over her clipboard.

At her words he seemed to snap out of his reverie.

She seemed to be paying no attention to him as she was lost in her own thoughts. "I would have wanted to kill him myself..."

"Either way he's dead does it matter how he got there?" Joker asked leaning back starting to get annoyed. He didn't like talking about his father.

"Yes." She answered all too quickly and then seemed stuned she had said anything. Clearning her throat she looked to the door. "Lets move onto something else..."

Joker tilted his head slightly and re focused his eyes back on her, the glare sending shivers down her spine. He was oddly back to his usual self.

Takeing a deep breath Harleenturned her attention back to the Jokershe bit her bottom lip. Not sure as to what questions she could ask now and even get a somewhat helpful answer. "..... What are you thinking right now Mister Joker..."

"I believe our deal was I get another favor before I answer another question." He said.

Straightening up she closed her eyes sighing softly. "Yes that is correct Mister Joker... And what would it be this time?"

He thought about it a moment before he leaned forward and smirked. She'd never do it.

"A kiss." He said simply.

Had she heard him right? She quickly looked up to him. "Excuse me?"

Joker smiled wider. He was correct. She would never do it.

"You heard me." He said. "I hate repeating myself."

"I can't kiss you. That is crossing Doctor, Paitent codes and if I kiss you it better be worth three God damn questions!" That last part just kinda slipped out.

Joker laughed so hard he almost fell back on the cot. He seemed to sober up quickly and leaned forward. "That wasn't the deal darlin." He said one side of his mouth quirking up in a smirk. "And I don't think you're THAT much to the books. One kiss won't cause you too lose your job."

"No but You are one case I don't want to give up...." she folded her arms over her chest in a brooding manner she frowned slgihtly. "I have spent the last three months fighting to get your case I'm not going to loose you on the first day!"

"Well you will if you don't get answers from me correct?" He asked. "So uh.... either way.... what do you have to lose?" He shrugged, his hands clasped together in his lap.

He was right, without showing progress with him she would be replaced. She ran her tongue over her lower lip turning her head away from him as she mauled this over. It was like College all over again. "One kiss."

"That's all I ask." He said leaning forward again.

She stood and bit hard upon her lip before moving toward him. "God I'm going to regret this later...." She muttered and thenlooked to the door mking sure the guards were not checking in on her.

Seeing her actually coming to him he leaned back against the wall again. No sense in him making this easy on her. "And it better be good." Joker said. "Otherwise your not getting your answer." He smiled at her a big toothy grin.

She swallowed hard, the way he was sitting she would almost have to straddle him to kiss him. She wanted nothing more then to impress the other doctors with all this new information she got from their number one paitent. Placing her hand on the cot Harleen movedherself over him wetting her lips a bit she nervously started to lean in. Hesitating a moment before she pressed her lips against his.

Joker closed his eyes and kissed her back his hands coming up to her her sides before entwining around her back trapping her too him. He deepened the kiss sliding his tongue along her bottom lip seeking entrance.

The kiss felt dangerous and wonderful at the same time. At first she tried to pull from him her lip quivered feeling his tongue. Her hand moved up off the cot and came to rest upon his chest. The pads of her fingersfelt the fabric that seperated her hand from his flesh. Her lips parted allowing his tongue entrance.

Joker slipped his tongue into her mouth and deepened the kiss. It had been months since he's last had a woman and damned if he was going to let her go.

What was unusual, was she did not make any more attempts to pull free from his hold. She moved her hands over his chest and allowed her fingers to interlock behind his neck as she pressed herself against him.

Joker smirked slightly against her lips and moved his hands down to cup her ass through the thin white coat she wore. He pulled her closer to him and stifled a moan as he caused her to rub against his swelling cock.

Harleen allowed a soft gasp to slip from her lips feeling his buldge through that thin material. She finally pulled away from his lips but not his hold. "That.... was not part of this deal... What do I get in return....."

"Screw the deal." He said said huskily as he pulled her back to him and kissed her once again.

Harleen fought against him never once did she give anyone something for nothing. Her hand gripped a fist full of that unruly hair and pulled upon it. She grunted softly in displeasure.

Joker was pulled away from her lips and laughed as she pulled his hair, pain tearing through his scalp.

"I love it when they play rough." He laughed harder and moved one of his hands up her side to her breast.

Shut up! You'll get us caught..." She snapped. Oh if that didn't make her feel like she was a teen living in her parents house. "Let me Go Joker..." Her hand grasped his trying to pull it away from her breast.

He grabbed onto her wrists and pinned them behind her back, engulfing her in his arms again. He kissed her once again his red makeup smearing onto her own skin.

A soft groan of pain slipped from her lips as her pinned her arms. There was nothing more she could do to fight against him. She shifted a bit, her body rubbing against his cock, this was not her intention though. Harleen was only trying postion herself to stop the pain that was growing in her arm.

"Stop fighting me." He said softly against her lips as his tongue fought against hers.

"Stop hurting me and I might stop fighting you" She managed to say before his tonuge invaded her mouth again. Groaning she then pressed herself hard against his cock showing her willingness to coroperate now.

Joker let go of her wrists but still kept himself alert in case she decided to fight him again.

Closing her eyes tightly as he released her wrists, Harleen moved them back to his shoulders and with as much strength as she could muster she forced himback against the wall. She did not move to try getting away. Wiggling herself against him and positioning herself right over his buldging cock.

Joker hit the wall hard his back making a slight thud against the white painted surface. He smiled up at her wickedly as she straddled his hips and pushed himself up against her through the rough material of his pants.

She pulled her hands back from his shoulders and pulled her hair free from it's tight bun. She shrugged the lab coat from her sholders and tossed it back onto the floor leaving her with a snug fitting dress shrit that was as many of the older female doctors would think "unprofessional."

Joker stared at her like a starving dog presented with food. Her shirt was so low cut her breasts nearly slipping out with the way she was sitting over him. His already aching erection swelled more as he thought of the things he'd do to her. Or if he was lucky what she'd do to him.

Harleen took hold of his face in her hands arching her back as she taced her thumbs over his scars. Her body rocking against his getting him good and hungry for her.

Joker ran his hands up under her shirt and cupped her breast in his hand. She wasn't overly huge, but large enough to fill his hand.

Her hand slapped hard across his cheek and a hand placed against his neck. "No more untill you answer my question Joker!"

Joker was shocked by the sudden turn of events. She stood up and backed away from him before he had a chance to grab a hold of her. As soon as she did she regretted it. Joker's face turned into a mask of anger and he lunged off the cot and tackled her to the ground pinning her beneath him.

The force she hit the floor with knocked the air from her lungs. She gasped for air and coughed unable to scream for help.in her weakened state sheplaced a hand under his chin trying to push him from her her well filed nails dug into the hard scar tissue.

Joker slapped her hand away as pain shot through his cheek, blood dripping down his face.

Harleen moved to reach for the panic button but couldn't reach it. It was just out of her reach. She tried moving a bit to grab it but Joker had her too well pinned down.

Twisting wildly, she tried to free her knee st least so she would be able to send a nice sharp swift blow to his swollen Cock. Her movement kept her from being able to catch her breath.

She tried to reach the button again and hit the edge of it flipping it slightly closer to her.

Third time her finger caught the hole in the metal clipfrantically she slapped her hand on the papers forcing the panic button down and she gripped the board tightly in her hand she slapped the hard plastic clipboard across his already bleeding cheek.

His head turned from the force but he didn't move. Not until the guards came in and tore him off of her. They pinned him back against the wall holding him there as Harleen stood up.

Grabbing her coat she pulled it on not bothering to honor the guard with an explanation. Harley ran the back of her hand over her lips to wipe away the smeared make up and moved toward the door only to be met by an out of breath Doctor Arkham.

Joker could see Harley and Dr. Arkham standing just outside the door. 'How you going to explain this one little girl?' Joker thought to himself a wicked smile spread across his face.

Doctor Arkham looked over the situation and the straight-jacketless Joker. "Doctor Quinzell WHAT happened here!!!" He ws ferious.

Harleen looked to the Joker and grit her teeth. One question was all he had to answer and becasue he did not they were in this mess. "DOCTOR QUINZELL!" He stated more firmly. "Why is the Joker out of his Straight Jacket!"

"Quid pro quo, I removed the jacket if he agreed to answer my questions." Harleen stated then turned and looked confidently to Arkham. "I guess I asked too many personal questions is all."

"You are very lucky I am a patient forgiving man Dr. Quinzell." He said. "You're being suspended for three months. "When you return you will be assigned to another case." He said. "Screw that one up and you're fired." He said before walking away angrily.

"BUT!! Doctor Arkham I obtained information from him that no one else has!" She Quickly followed him. "Information that may help us find out who the "Joker" Really is. THAT is the information you have been wanting since he was first brought here! I can get it I know I can! I was in there longer then any of your other Doctors! He was unrestrained And did not harm me untill I asked him a personal question. I had him talking to me! NONE of your other doctors have gotten this far with him!" Harleen moved quickly out infront of him cutting him off. "You can't take me off this case!"

Dr. Arkham paused as she stood in front of him. "Let me see your notes." He said.

She winced. "I didn't take any... " She looked away from Dr Arkham. "The conversation moved too fast to take notes when I started to he would jump to another subject." She lied. "Once I stopped trying to take notes he started to stay on one subject...."

Dr. Arkham sighed. "I will give you one more chance on the condition you have a paper done on what he has told you. No lies. If I find you are lying you will be fired on the spot do you understand me?"

"I understand Sir, You will not be disapointed again sir." Harleen could have sighed in relief but restrained herself. "I have a request though sir...."

Dr. Arkham didn't look all to amused. "And what's that?"

"The next session is to remain one on one.... And no restraints. I have something that's working and if we alter it any I will loose that trust. It will be hard enough after what just happened I want him to think I still trust him..." Harley stated and stepped aside to continue walking with Arkham. "I also think a small auido recorder would be better then taking notes..."

"If.... I put you back on the case." He said.

"You will... You will for the simple fact that you know I can get you audio straight from the source...." Harley narrowed her eyes and a sly playful smile crept to her lips. "It would be unpresidented for the world to hear the thruth in the Jokers own voice..... I'll sign a waver voiding all legal action that can be taken if something happens to me... If that is what you are worried about Dr Arkham." She was not about to let this case slip away from her. "What do you have to loose.... I've only been here for five months, I'm expendable.... But if I have a breakthrough with your hardest case.... You will be famous ..... your Asylum will recieve more money from the state your wallet will get much fatter... You Doctor can not loose... If I fail you were no better off but if I suceed...." Harley only smiled sweetly at the doctor and took hold of his arm. "Just trust me this once..."

"Fine but I want that paper on my desk tomorrow. You're relieved for today."

She was alright with leaving for the day after what had happened. "Yes sir I'll get to work on it right away... Good day sir."
