Beauty and the...Yautja?

Chronicle 1: Close Encounter of a Yaut Kind

I tossed and turned in bed all night. I wasn’t sure but, this dream…nightmare seemed so real. I was being chased by someone or something. Its strange, I couldn’t see it but yet I could. All I saw was a somewhat…hazy? Yeah, hazy sounds good. All I saw was a hazy outline of my pursuer.

All I heard were my panting breaths and cries for help and some type of growl from the thing chasing me. I didn’t even know what caused this to begin with!

Suddenly, still running, now through the woods that weren’t far from my home, I could feel this being closing in on me!

My barefoot caught on an upturned root, causing me to fall face first into the mud below. I heard hulking steps come up behind me. Gulping, I dug up the courage to look back.

“Stacy McGreggor! Wake up young lady!” I heard a feminine voice shriek.

I jolted up, rolling off my bed, crashing to the plush carpet below. “Mornin to you too mom.” I groaned, rubbing my cheek. Guess I missed the alarm…again.

“Get dressed and come downstairs for breakfast. You have to be at school in forty minutes.” my mother continued, shaking her head, making her brown hair go back over her shoulders.

“Be down in five, mom.” I said, yawning as I stood up, soon discarding the over-sized shirt I slept in. After changing panties and putting on a black bra, I walked over to my dresser and looked in the mirror. “Oh boy, am I a mess.” I yawned once again, reaching for my brush. My auburn colored hair was a rat’s nest!

I began slowly, and carefully brushing out the knots. My thoughts soon shifted to my dream… “I’ve been having that same dream every night for the past month now. What does it mean?” I wondered as I set the purple brush down on my dresser, and applied my deodorant.

I then began digging through my clothes, not sure of what to wear. I ended up settling on normal blue jeans and a black short-sleeved shirt that had a cute little alien on it saying “I’m far out” I thought it was cute.

I was in a special club in school that I started, I called it the Outer Science club. It was for those who believed in aliens, cryptids and such. We had about ten people. We were mostly insulted for what we believed in, but who really cares?

This universe and our own planet are too big for there to be nothing of such legends to exist! For us to think we are alone in the universe, its egotistical bullcrap!

After putting on my blue toe socks and red Converse, I made my way downstairs and to the kitchen. I sighed, halting my footsteps at the refrigerator. “What to eat?” I wondered out loud, opening the freezer and began rummaging through the ice box, looking for potential breakfast.

My eyelids still halfway closed from just waking up, I yawned once again, rubbing the sleep out of my brown eyes. “Ah! Here we go!” I cheered, grabbing the box of wildberry Toaster Strudels. “These should be good.” I told myself, popping two in the toaster.

I then opened the fridge itself, grabbing a Minute Maid orange juice bottle. I took a nice long gulp.

Even now…I feel as if I am being watched. And its not just my usual paranoia. I can actually feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I can also feel the goosebumps creep across my skin.

I could also sense the presence of someone gazing at me, watching…no…observing my every move. And I knew…whoever or whatever was watching me was deadly.

I gulped feeling anxiety cover my emotions. I felt…like prey in a hunt…

I heard something pop loudly, causing my to shriek and jump in shock. I quickly turned around to face the sudden noise. My face deadpanned when I realized what had startled me…my freaking breakfast!!

“Wow…no more Monster Movie Madness for me…” I sighed, relaxing a bit, my elbows and back resting on the ledge of the sink counter.

‘Or maybe its that recurring dream I’ve been having lately? Just what is chasing me? And why?’ I wondered, spreading the icing on my toaster strudels.

I finished them rather quickly, being late was not something I needed, if got one more detention, I would have ISS. The only thing I liked about school, besides science and language classes was my club.

I made my way to the front door leading to the outside world, bending down to retie my shoes so I wouldn’t have to worry about my clumsiness for the day hopefully.

I then picked up my custom black messenger bag that had UFOs and aliens littering its surface. And stitched in neon green Military lettering was ‘We are NOT alone’

Double-checking to make sure I had everything I needed, I opened the front door and began jogging to school. It was only ten minutes from my home so I never really bothered with the bus. Except during winter or really bad rain spells. As I jogged, I still couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched.

I stopped and checked my surroundings. I really hated this feeling! Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out my Cherry chap stick, quickly applying it and putting it back, mingling with my green I-Phone.

As I moved closer to my destination, I slowed my movements down to a slow walk, my head in the clouds to keep my thoughts away from a potential stalker. My senses and nerves were on high alert though. Every now and again, I swear to God I heard a strange, soft purr-like clicking noise. I could not place what kind of creature it belonged to. It was safe to say that those noises did NOT help my nerves.

All in all, besides my heightened paranoia and the feeling of being followed every step of the way, the walk to school was rather uneventful.

In no time, my school, Raven’s Peak High School came into view. I was pretty much the youngest kid in my year, 14 years old. Born December 24th, 1996. I yawned as I entered the door, rubbing my hazel eyes, ridding them of any remaining sleep.

I was now in the commons, also referred to as the cafeteria. In the mornings, its where all the students congregated before class and had a last minute breakfast. Not too bad for school breaky. I like the cinnamon rolls and the breakfast sandwiches on biscuits.

Due to me being rather petite, barely hitting five feet and somewhat scrawny, I had a high metabolism. I ran to the lunch line and bought a breakfast biscuit that had eggs and bacon. Also got a small carton of milk.

I soon joined my friends, fellow alien enthusiasts. I talked to one more then the others, a girl who was 15 years old and in a good few of my classes. Her name was Angie Robinson. She had short brown and green eyes. Her skin was tanned and freckled.

“Man, Stace! You’d never guess what I saw on the way to school!!” my fellow alien lover squeaked. She seemed rather…mousy. But, she was a sweet girl, my best friend in the world. We’ve known each other since preschool. We could always tell each other anything.

“And what was that, pray tell?” I wondered, opening my milk carton and taking a drink.

“One of the quarterbacks on the football team was found, hanging from a tree, dangling by his feet and he was skinned alive! It was so gross!” she answered, smiling almost wickedly.

“Wow, what the heck could’ve happened to him? I mean, what would have done that?” I wondered mostly to myself.

“I’ve no idea. I took a pic of it with my cell though! Wanna see?” she asked ecstatically, whipping out her Droid.

“God, you are such a gorehound! Show me!!” I practically leapt to her side, somewhat curious.

The picture was very disturbing and gut wrenching. I retched a bit. There was the seventeen year old boy, suspended by his ankles from a large tree, no skin and his organs in a gory pool beneath him.

“Hey, you ok? You look a little…spooked.” Angie asked, concern in her tone.

“I’m still having that nightmare, Angie. Just wished I knew what it all meant.”

“Don’t worry so much, recurring nightmares can be rather common.” she told me, a hand on my shoulder.

“You wouldn’t think that if you were having these dreams. I swear, I always feel like something is watching me. Observing me…like I’m some kind of prey…” I gulped, nervous and scared.

Another thing Angie told me once was that many people can see the future through their dreams. I really hope this is not the same in this situation. I wanted to know what was chasing me yet, I knew that if I did, the result would not be pretty.

I just went through school normally, mostly dwelling on my dream and still feeling observed. Like a few microbes in a Petri dish. Being scrutinized, and it was not a sensation I liked.

The Outer Science club had a meeting today. So, I just had us watch a Sci-Fi movie. It was about a girl being stalked by an alien monster. I wouldn’t have chosen this title seeing as how I feel like I’m being followed. It was Angie’s decision.

By the time the movie was over, it started sprinkling. I decided to walk home anyway, rain would calm me most of the time.

I had my I-Pod on, listening to music with the volume turned down so I could hear for any oncoming traffic. While listening to The Greatest Show Unearthed by Creature Feature, I heard a strange noise.

Pausing my music, I heard the noise clear as day. What I heard was an odd purr-like clicking sound. What startled me was how close it sounded. As if whatever made that noise was right behind me!

I slowly turned around, fearing what I may see. My heart dropped and my blood froze. First, I saw a hazy outline of something large. But, as the rain splattered this being, electricity could be heard crackling, as if something just short circuited from the rain.

The clicking continued as my stalker was slowly revealed. Ice now pumped through my veins, panic and terror painted on my face. What I saw was some kind of alien, I knew that much.

As if I wasn’t small enough by human standards, this…behemoth toward over me, being at least seven-and-a-half feet tall and definitely pure muscle! His skin looked scaly, he seemed a mixture of being reptilian and mammalian. The skin of a retile, but the body of a human.

He was exceedingly pale, a fearsome steel mask covered his face. And what looked like tube-like dreadlocks framed his head, flowing down his back and his broad shoulders. Once again, that strange purring sound floated into my ears.

It calmed me somehow, but, I wanted to get away from this creature. After all, what could I, a weak human do against this god-like, armored alien?! I took off into the forest, knowing it was a shortcut home, where I wanted to be.

‘Oh no…déjà vu…No way! I can’t let that thing get me!!!’ I cried out in my mind, making my legs double time it.

I could barely hear that thing behind me. ‘Hunter and the prey. What cruel irony. I spend my life fascinated by the unknown only to have it ended by such a creature.

I grew more fearful, realizing this was exactly what I’ve been dreaming off the past month. What scared me the most was, I had no idea how it ends.

My foot, catching an upturned root, sent me careening into a pit of mud. I cried out as I crashed into the goop. ‘This is always where it ends…darkness…and there’s no point in crying for help. No one can stop him…’ I was strangely accepting of my fate.

The albino alien was now in view, head titled to the left curiously. I saw a laser target scroll over my worn out, mud-coated body. ‘Was I to be skinned alive too?’ I wondered as the laser set on my left shoulder.

Too afraid to actually face Death, my eyes scrunched shut as I heard the sound of something being fired, feeling a strange tingle where the laser was fixated. Then…darkness…
