“just another day—nevermind”
Just another regular day at Sky High, well, maybe, things were just getting back to normal. Still, everyone was on edge that morning. After spending 3 years in the super-villain penitentiary, the notorious seniors Lash, Speed, and Penny were back to finish up their high school careers. They'd served their time, and wealthy families helped them to have such a short time, but whether they'd learned something from it was still questionable.
It was with that thought that Will Stronghold skipped the last step of the bus and glided several feet across the sidewalk. He still couldn't get over the amazing fact of his dual power. He felt something hit the back of his head and turned to see Layla with a raised eyebrow behind him.
"None of that, we're almost to the end of the week and you're not asking for trouble now." She picked up the eraser she'd thrown at him and pocketed it before throwing her arm around his shoulder. "Besides, you're meeting Austin today, and if you get detention..."
"He won't spend it alone that's for sure." Zach insisted as he and Magenta hopped off the bus after them.
"Shouldn't we be finding Warren? After all, you owe him his notes." Magenta said, prodding Will in the ribs.
"Oh right, I almost forgot." Will cringed.
"Stronghold!"
"Warren!" Will grinned sheepishly as the long-haired boy waved him over from the stairs outside the entrance of the school. The four made their way over to him to be greeted with an upraised hand gesturing towards Will. Warren wasn't really paying attention to them, he was more focused on the textbook in his lap.
"Right, yeah, about that-" Warren glared up at Will through his bangs, "Kidding man, I was joking. I've got them in here somewhere."
"Start finding them then, I need those more than you do." Warren murmured as Will began digging around in his backpack.
"Well if it isn't the little—”
"Chill out, super-freak."
They looked up to see none other than the three troublemakers from the beginning of their super-school careers. Speed was glaring pointedly at Penny, who was scowling. Lash seemed irritated with the both of them.
"Back off you guys, we don't want trouble." Layla insisted. Will on the other-hand was up and ready for a fight.
"Stronghold, notes first, squabbling later." Warren growled. Will hesitated before diving into his bag and pulling out several sheets of paper and stuffing them into Warren's open hand.
"There, happy?" Will grumbled. Warren, again, ignored him and held the papers out towards the stairs. Everyone else stared at him in confusion until a girl appeared, almost as though out of nowhere, and took them and looked them over.
"Thanks Warren, this means worlds." She said with a grin, not actually looking past the pages. Her non-descript wavy brown hair flounced just above her shoulders. A elbow-sleeve green shirt and pair of khaki cargo capris with a too-long drawstring clung to her perky chest and dancer's legs. Black platform flip-flops gave her thin figure an extra 2 inches of height.
"Hey, Madonna Carey, get lost, this ain't your business." Penny snapped at the girl. Dark brown eyes shot up from the paper as the girl lifted her head. She carefully slipped Warren's notes into her black shoulder bag, which she then dropped next to Warren.
"Wanna say that again?" She hissed. Penny opened her mouth to repeat herself, stepping towards the girl. Before her words left her tongue, the other girl lifted her chin sharply and Penny suddenly went flying backwards into a group of bystanding students. The girl turned to Lash and Speed who both stepped back.
"We're not with her." Speed said quickly. The side of the girl's lip curled into a smirk and she rolled her eyes as she walked away, grabbing her bag and playfully punching Warren in the shoulder as she passed him. She tossed her head a little as she walked towards the skywalk, a moving double-helix of stairs that led to the C-building, a skeletal floating dome above the high school.
"Um... what?" Magenta shot at Warren.
"Transfer from real school, got here last weekend. Her high school didn't have an extension so she went to college like normal people. Her parents found out about our new system and sent her here." Warren rattled off, still looking at his textbook.
"How do you know her?" Zach asked.
"Nicole's roommate."
"Why'd she need sidekick notes?" Will asked, still bewildered.
"They don't differentiate at her high school. She's been catching up four years worth all week."
"What's her name?" Lash asked. Warren looked up and shook his head with a sigh.
"The fact that one of them asked the one thing you should've started with means there's something wrong with all of you." Warren pointed at the four.
"Alright, where's that bitch what's-her-name?" Penny shoved Lash and Speed out of her way. "I'll break her!"
"Natalie's in class,” Warren’s eyes turned back to his textbook as he continued, “Where you all should probably be.”
"Ha, class, pfft." Speed shot off towards the cafeteria.
"Oh, he's right, come on you guys." Layla grabbed Will's wrist and towed him up the stairs, Zach and Magenta following. Will waved to Warren who shook his head in response.
"You better tell your little friend to watch her back." Penny hissed as she stormed off. Part of her leapt out and walked with her, both Pennys complaining about the girl.
Warren looked to see Lash still standing there, looking towards the skywalk.
"She won't like you."
"Huh?" Lash turned to the other boy.
"I mean, she's hott, and girl's got class – hmm, I can’t believe I just stand that. Though, you seem to have gotten yourself straightened out. I've personally never seen you with a schoolbag, but whatever. You might stand a chance, assuming you've actually changed."
Lash stared at him in shock. "I'm pretty sure that's the most you've ever said to me. Ever."
"I'm pretty sure that's the most I've ever said, ever. Except to my girlfriend." Warren chuckled. "So what're you taking?"
"Uh, mostly statistical mathematics and structural theory stuff. Figure it fits in with my power." Lash said, sitting on the grass before Warren and pulling a textbook out of his backpack and handing it to the younger boy. "I hear the teacher for those isn't particularly good though. Sucks that we don't have any real professors."
"That would involve normal people. Our school kinda sucks period. So, no super-classes?" Warren asked, handing the book back.
"I figured I should avoid it for a little while. But I am taking something that supposedly helps you keep from being susceptible to other powers and better control your own."
"Autonomy? Yeah I'm in that." Warren gave him a look. "So's Natalie."
Lash gave him a strange look.
"What's up?"
"That's what I'm wondering. Shouldn't you be hating me and, I dunno, trying to kick my ass?" Lash asked.
"See, I actually changed over the years; worked on my anger issues for one. And Nicole insists that I try not judging people and giving second chances and stuff. So, I mean, whatever."
Lash shrugged and grinned. "That's cool. So, who's Nicole?"
A/N: Well, I actually don’t have much to say here, other than that. Oh, and, you know, please rate, review, all that good stuff.
Lash: Thus far, I think I’m liking this; no one’s kicked my ass yet, I’m making friends, there’s a hott girl… But I’m still concerned about having to have sex with a guy. I mean, I was promised that I wouldn’t, and maybe I’m misreading things here, but I have this uncomfortable feeling that I’m going to be having sex with Warren…
Warren: I’m not having sex with you. End of discussion.
