Disclaimer:
I lay no claim to Avatar, that belongs to James Cameron and the people he got to help him make it, so I make no money from writing this.
50 years after
AN: I figured I should do this before I get this story rolling too far down the road and I forget that most people don't know Na'vi, which the title of this story happens to be in. The title is quite literally fifty years after. And I will throw some actual Na'vi in, though it'll only be in the parts where I have English and Na'vi, for the sake of clarity of how people are speaking. I will provide translations of the Na'vi though.
******* “Our operations failed the last time” the man behind the desk said. He was what Jessi had come to see as the rich assholes that ran the world. “The locals attacked our people, those they didn't kill, they sent back to Earth like dogs with their tails between their legs. But we've discovered another source of Unobtainium on the other side of Pandora. No where near the hostile locals, but we need someone competent to lead security, someone willing to learn the ways of the locals and keep them pacified so our people can do their jobs.”He paused to take a sip of his water. “Are you with us, Miss Swiftfoot?”
Jessi's face remained blank as she listened to this pig of a man speak. “It's Ericson-Swiftfoot, sir” she said.
“What?” he said blinking in confusion.
“My last name is Ericson-Swiftfoot.”
He looked at the file before him. Probably a very brief detail of her work for the military. It was very brief because most of her missions were of a classified nature, but she was very good at what she did and was very good at getting people to follow her.
“As to whether I'm with you or not” she continued. “As long as we get some things straight before we leave, I don't see why we can't get along.”
He opened his mouth to speak but Jessi cut him off.
“I will do things my way. Whatever corperate rat you send with for this operation, I will listen to what he has to say but I won't take orders from him. You know I can do the job, otherwise you wouldn't have asked for this little meeting.
“I'm sure you'll want to set up another Avatar program, for all the issues the locals near Hell's Gate caused, the program was a good one. I want the notes on that. I want to meet anyone you've picked for command position. If I don't like them, I'm bringing in my own choices. I want to set up Avatars for those in command. I'm sure if we show the locals we're willing to work with them, they'll cause less problems.”
He gapped at her like a fish out of water as she listed her demands. “Um. Anything else?” he asked hesitantly when she finished.
“Not that I can think of. How soon can I meet with my subordinates?” she asked.
“How's tomorrow sound?” he asked cautiously.
Jessi nodded.
“My secretary will call you with the details.”
Jessi left with a satisfied smirk on her face. That would teach these pigs that she was as good as her record said. She wasn't a pushover just because she was a woman.
