SHARDS OF SALVATION VIII

CHAPTER IX

Four days into the journey aboard a boat bound for Alexandria.

TIMELINE : 4 years after Gabriel Van Helsing becomes a Hunter for the Order.
PLACE : Vatican City, Rome, Italy.
PAIRING : Gabriel/Carl
RATING : R to NC-17

“Van Helsing?”

“Not now Carl.”

Carl sighed and shuffled back down the deck. Van Helsing was busy talking to the ship captain and had been for the last few hours. They had seen a pirate ship in the horizon and had been outrunning them for the moment.

For Four days they had been away from the Vatican and it was always the same. /Not now, Carl/. Carl was getting -extremely- frustrated. Van Helsing seemed hell bent on not talking. So much for his promise. Carl’s hand was on the cabin door when he just decided, “screw it.” and headed for the other side of the ship. He did not want to sit in the cabin studying maps and shyte. He wanted to talk to Van Helsing. Gabriel had even made sure that they were in separate cabins.

Carl leant his hands on the railing as he looked out over the horizon. It was getting dark, and the pirate ship was still tailing them. The men aboard the Lady Fyre were a fearless and hardy bunch though and they did not worry about storms. Carl was not dressed in his robes for he did not want to arrive in the port of Alexandria in the robes of a monk.

He did not immediately notice the man standing next to him. A blonde, handsome sailor who casually leant against the robes. “I’ve been watching you,” he said to Carl. “Found something to relieve yourself yet?”

“What?” Carl jumped and stared at the man. “What are you talking about?”

“Your friend has, every night. Why not you?” The sailor reached over and slid his fingers down Carl’s shirt.

/every night?/ Carl felt his temper rising.

The blonde laughed, “Even I’ve had him. But you know what’s funny, he mumbles your name when he comes. He thinks I didn’t hear it.”

Carl felt his blood beginning to boil. He was not attracted to the blonde man in the slightest. Just what was Van Helsing up to? Fucking other men and not even TALKING to him? The friar glared hotly at the sailor. “You’ve had him. Have you?” he said between his teeth.

“And he was very good, made me wonder if you’d be any good too.”

The words weren’t even completely out of the sailor’s mouth when Carl’s fist flew out and slammed into it, knocking the sailor down on his ass. In an instant he could remember Gods commandments, but that did nothing to stay the anger that flooded through him. With a howl of rage he leapt on the blonde man and began to fight him, taking out all the anger and frustration that he had felt in the last several months on the hapless sailor.
The blonde fought back, but if there was one thing that Carl knew how to do it was to fight. He did not just design his weapons, he knew how to use them. He knew how to fight. He designed the arena’s that the knights used. He knew everything there was to know about fighting. He was a man of god, not of violence. He protested violently when he felt himself being yanked away from the sailor. “Damnit, let me GO!” he commanded harshly, looking about to see Gabriel Van Helsing holding him by the shirt collar.

“CARL, what’s gotten into you?” The man’s shocked expression was enough to make Carl blink several times and wrench himself away.

The sailor picked himself up, cursing his bloody lip. “He hit me.”

“What did you do to him?” Van Helsing shot back.

“Oh stuff it! Don’t you even -DARE- try and get into a fight over me. Just leave me the hell alone.” Carl snapped, and tried to storm off. Just as he did Gabriel hurried after him and grabbed him once again by he shirt. “Let me go, Van Helsing.“ Carl stuggled, “Get your hands off me!”

Van Helsing held him fast. “I don’t think so.”

The hunter dragged the protesting Carl back to his cabin and tossed him inside. Then he closed the door and stared at his friend. “What is this all about?”

“What is this about?” Carl was furious. His bright blue eyes were hot with anger as he stared at the man baring his door. “You sleep with half the whole damn crew and you dare to ask me what this is about!”

“Language Carl.” Van Helsing warned, chuckling. “You’ve already broken enough commandments tonight. How could I have done that? We‘ve only been only board for four days.”

“Fuck that.” Carl snarled. “Have you or haven’t you?”

“Carl…”

“Gabriel. I’ve had it. You. You.” Carl threw his hands up in the air. “You are driving me insane. You won’t talk to me and you sleep with other people and you won’t talk about anything! I’ve been waiting for you for months. I didn’t know if you were alive or dead. I…now you won’t. Argh!” the Friar huffed.

“Carl, I’m sorry. How could I get into trouble? I wasn’t on a mission. I wasn’t allowed to fight, remember.”

“Oh…” Carl sighed. “Still, you could have sent word.” he pouted.

“Carl.” Van Helsing shook his head again. “Carl we’re on a mission. You know what I’m like when I’m on a mission. I am focused. I don’t have sex with people.”

“You don’t?”

“No. Not until after.”

“Really?”

“Yes, Really.” Van Helsing’s voice was very soft. “That sailor was just trying to get you into his bed. “

“Would that upset you?” Carl looked up, suddenly feeling very vulnerable.

“I would have to kill him.”

Carl began to smile. ”Van Helsing…”

“I thought I told you to call me Gabriel.”

“Gabriel. Why have you avoided me the last four days?”

“Carl, this is very complicated, you and me. I hardly know what to think about it.”

“That’s your problem, Gabriel. You think too damn much.” The friar crossed his arms and the smile that had suddenly blossomed turned back into a scowl. “I want you, you want me, what’s to think about?”

“Its not that simple.”

“You’re trying to protect me again, Gabriel. I don’t want you to do that.”

“Carl, I did not want to have this discussion yet.”

“Then when?” Carl shoved him back against the door. “When, Gabriel? How do we know if the next battle won’t leave you on your ass fighting for your life? I can’t wait for that. I won’t wait for that. God forgive me, I want you.. Tell me you want me too.”

Gabriel reached up to take off his hat and toss it aside. He ran his fingers through his hair and nodded. “Yes, Carl. I want you too.”

Carl’s eyes lit up. “Then…”

Gabriel swooped forward, gathering Carl up into his arms and kissing him suddenly with brutal, fiery need. His tongue connects with the young man’s and the kiss deepens.

Every fiber of Carl’s being was reacting to Gabriel’s heavenly tongue. /Oh, God. More/ he thought.

When their lips parted Gabriel was breathing very heavily, his gaze locked with Carl’s own. They looked at each other for a long time. He had vowed that he would not corrupt Carl, but he could not stop himself. If he walked away now he would die. Maybe not in body, but in soul.

“Love me, Gabriel.” Carl said softly.
