A Predator Halloween

Chapter 10

It all happened so fast. One moment Tya was kneeling on the ground, safe and sound, the next she was falling over the edge, clutched by an alien nearly three times her size. The helicopter above must have shifted, the spot light reflected off the cloaked ship, flashing brightly over the area.

Carter closed her eyes to shield them from the flash, a moment later she looked to the basin below, calling out to the men there. “GET THEM OUT OF THE WATER!” Quickly the men began searching the rapids, while others shone their lights into the deeper water of the basin.

“Carter,” Daniel said nervously, “we have a problem.”

She turned to see Daniel holding his shoulder, but with his free hand, trying to reach for his emergency med kit, to hand the bleeding alien a bandage. “Oh no.” She too reached for her kit, as she kneeled down next to the pair.

“Who the hell fired!!?” O’Neil yelled.

“It came from below sir, that’s all I know,” Carter stated. The alien pushed them off, growling menacingly. Carter landed at O’Neil’s feet, and Daniel landed at the edge of the rushing water.

The group looked up as a mist began to fall. Above them a door opened in mid air, another alien appearing at its edge, stretching out his hand to his wounded college. As the smaller alien reached back, the bright flash came again, and the alien was gone. Carter looked to the one in the open door, his expression that of bewilderment. She knew that flash, and if Daniel was right, the alien would know the word. “Askard!” she yelled. The alien nodded to her, and went inside, closing the door. She then grabbed her radio. “General Hammond, the Askard are here. They have the girl and the two aliens…”

The flash happened again, and Carter and her team found themselves in a totally new environment. “…I think…” she stopped as she noticed the floor, & not the rocks she’d been crawling on. “…oh boy…”

“I hate it when they do that.” O’Neil stated, & looked around at his team. None of them had their weapons, not even their knives. “Daniel…Where’s Daniel?”

“I’m here Jack.” Daniel strode towards him, flexing his once wounded shoulder. “Thor fixed my shoulder.”

“Thor came himself? Wow. How long have we been here?”

“Not long Jack. Seems we have a more complicated situation than we thought. He asked me to bring you to the conference room.”

“Ok.”

“Not at the base?” Carter asked.

“No. Apparently the hunters demand it be held here. Neutral ground, and as you can see…no weapons are permitted.”

“What about Tya? She’s hurt. Where is she?”

“She’s here. But that’s all Thor would say.”

“He didn’t say if she was ok?”

Daniel shook his head. “He may tell us when we meet. But for now, he didn’t.”

D’Gon paced uneasily in the room. He’d landed hard on the floor, not long ago, but his female wasn’t in his arms, as she had been mere seconds before. He recognized the symbols displayed on the screens around the room.

‘YOU HAVE BEEN RETRIEVED BY THE ASKARD. REMAIN CALM. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED SHORTLY.’

He’d hated the words. the Askard had no right to take his female! He’d even punched out a screen, roaring to make his point of displeasure clear. He then found himself confined in a fore field cell. For a while it was small, hardly enough room to move. As he calmed, the field expanded, and he just paced around the edge of the filed.

She had to be here. She was with him when the Askard grabbed him. She had to be aboard. He turned as the door slid aside, and hissed as he gazed upon his captor.

Tya opened her eyes to a grey metallic ceiling. As she began to wonder where she was, the face of an alien looked at her from her right. “Do not fear,” the little creature stated calmly. Tya tried to move. “You are restrained for your protection. Please remain calm.”

“Where am I?” she asked, nearly to the point of screaming.

You are on board the Askard Command ship Belistner. I am Thor, Supreme Commander of the Askard Fleet.”

“Thor?”

“Yes, I know…Viking Lore…it is too complicated to explain.” The little alien consulted a panel, before taking an instrument form the side, and moving closer to her. “Are you in pain?”

“Yes,” she sighed, felling embarrassed about the whole ordeal. The medications her friend had given her must not be working.

“May I ask where?”

“Oh man…” She just stared at the ceiling. Her face flushed and she felt her skin warm. “Is it warm I here?”

Thor slid the device over her body, scrutinizing the readings, he then asked. “Did they Yautja medicate you at any time?”

“The Yautja? Is that what they’re called?” Thor nodded. “I think so…Yeah, in the cave, one of them gave me something to drink.”

“Your wounds have been treaded with regenerative jells. This is not harmful to humans. However, the medication for pain and to fight infection, are too strong for human physiology to handle. I will need to remove the substances from your blood.”

“Will it hurt?”

“No, but it is not comfortable. At the same time I will accelerate the jells. When you wake, your wounds will be gone.”

“When I wake up?”

“Yes. It would be best that you sleep through the procedure.” She nodded. The alien’s grey fingers moved a crystal, & she drifted off to sleep. As the alien walked away, the girl was bombarded with different lights, each one bent on helping the girl.

Thor strolled down the hall, listening in the distance of Daniel explaining what would happen. Thor had kept the girl separate from him to keep him from knowing the extent of the girl’s injuries. Further down, he moved another crystal, and a door slid aside.

The larger alien within turned, hissing beneath its mask. Thor went ot another panel, and moved three crystals over the surface. He then turned back to the alien. “Do you understand me?”

“Yes,” he hissed, stepping closer to the edge of the field.

“Were you aware of what you have done?”

“THE GIRL IS MINE!!”

“Calm down. I am not here to discuss the legitimacy of your claim. I am referring to your administration of Yautja medicine to a human.”

D’Gon stood still. “There was no other choice.”

“You could have chosen not to mate.”

“She did not…Why should I? She was willing, and insistent, I obliged her, and claimed what was rightfully mine.”

“We will see. Your Elder has been notified you are here,” Thor turned as another door opened, and the younger alien strode in to join D’Gon. “Your college’s wounds have been healed. You will be directed to a meeting area soon. We will discuss this issue in detail, calmly. If you wish your Elder may attend.”

“Our ship is being blocked. The oomans are preventing it from leaving the surface.”
“I will see to that. Remain here.”

D’Gon grazed his claw tips over the force field. “Like I have a choice!” Thor just continued on his way. D’Gon then shook Val’Roch’s shoulder, and received the same in return. “You did well. Thank you.”

“Did well? She fell! I failed you.”

“You did not. If she had fallen, without you reaching for the cloth, I would not have been able to get to her in time. Your wounds give you the honour you deserve, and my thanks.”

“No one will know however.”

“Yes they will. Just show them – “

“The Askard do not leave scars! Only we will know! I will be considered a lire! And you an accessory.”

D’Gon placed his hand on Val’s shoulder. “I will speak with the Askard. You will have the honour you deserve.”

Val’Roch nodded, then turned to the older hunter. “What of the female? D’Gon shook his head. “Surely the Askard would not let her die?”

“Doubtful. But we used too much of our medicine on her. She is very sick. They keep us apart to heal her, or to allow her to die alone.”

“That would be horrible. It is not an honourable thing for them to keep you from her. She belongs to you! I watched you take her. You did not – ”

“I know, Val’Roch! I know. But we will see her again. And she will be at my side. You can be sure of that.”

“Tell me D’Gon.”

“Yes?”

“Does she have a sister?”

Hammond strolled into the command center of the SGC, looking over some of the papers from the soldiers that were in the field. There were two soldiers that had fired their weapons. Both saying they were warning shots only, but that the laser sights on their weapons must have been faulty. Though they accepted responsibility for what happened, neither of them had aimed where the alien and girl were struck. The bullets were supposed to fly off over their heads. “What have we got people?” Hammond asked, handing the reports to one of the Sergeants.

A man with glasses and white hair spoke up from the monitoring station. “Prometheus is in orbit now sir, reports that the Askard ship is proceeding to the far side of the moon to avoid telescopic detection from the surface. The Askard have sent a request that our helicopter pull back, and allow the Hunter’s ship to leave the atmosphere. They say they have two of their party, and the ship will not leave the area without them.”

“Get me Hawk.”

“Yes sir.” The man pressed a few buttons. “Hawk, this is StarGate Command, prepare for message from General Hammond.”

Standing by,” came the reply.

“This is Hammond,” he began, being handed a transcript of the Askard message. The message itself was far longer than the summarized version just given him. They were a very thorough species. “Stand down, Hawk. Return to base. Mission aborted.”

Sir?

“Mission has been taken to a higher power. Return to base. Acknowledge, Delta 2.”

There was a moment of silence. Then, “This is Hawk, Delta 2 code Acknowledged. Returning to base.

“ETA Sergeant?”

“Hawk ETA to base twenty minutes.”

“Good. Now, listen up. We have a rather…” Hammond didn’t get a chance to finish, as the SGC command center was bathed in a bright flash of light. When it cleared, Hammond was gone.
“Sargent!” one of the crew cried.

“Stand down. The Askard just wanted to include him in the proceedings. I need the next a C.O to the command center.”

“Sir, I’ve got reports from med bay, Doctor Phraser and several of her staff are missing, along with supplies.”

“What?”

A moment later, hardly noticeable to Hammond, he was looking out a window filled with stars, and a pale moon sliding into view. “…sticky situation – oh hell.” He turned to see Doctor Phraser and some of her staff also there, with a number of pieces of equipment. “Doctor?”

“Don’t look at me sir, I’m supposed to be finishing the analysis of the alien blood you sent me.” She looked around at her bewildered staff. “May I assume that we’re –"

“On the Askard ship?” he finished for her. “That would be correct.”

“Ok, why us?” she asked, as her team began to group around them.

“Because you are needed.” They all turned to see Thor sitting in his command chair, as it turned form another screen.

“Thor?”

“Greetings General Hammond. I trust all is well?”

“Not lately. We were having a friendly costume party, then everything went to hell.”

“I can imagine. Doctor Phraser, I have a strange request.”

“Oh?”

“Askard medical technology is advanced. So much that wounds heal without scaring.”

“That’s good. But what does that have to do with me?”

“These people are your surgical staff?”

“Yes.”

“I need you to place scars on one of my guests. It seems he wants them back.”

“What?”

“My sentiment exactly. It is a cultural matter. To facilitate the process, I have reversed the tissue regeneration of the wounds. He is waiting for you. Please, follow this drone. The translation matrix is on in the medical area. You will be able to understand each other.”

“Go ahead Doctor.”

“Alright. Though I must admit, this is the strangest house call I’ve ever had to make. Let’s go people. Our patient awaits.”

The door closed behind them, and Thor turned another crystal. A second later, a long oval table appeared, with seven chairs around it, and two set back on one side, with Thor’s command chair at one end. “Please General Hammond, have a seat. Our guests will be here shortly.”

“Thank you.”

“Do you have any information that would help shed some light on what has transpired here tonight?”

“I have a police report, and a military report on my desk, that explain what we believe is the cause of all this, but without – ” Thor in the process had been moving crystals and examining readings. A second later, a flash of light appeared before Hammond and the papers he’d spoken of were lying before him.

“These reports General?”

Hammond looked over the files quickly. “Yes, this would be them. Don’t suppose you can help me find my keys to my house’s gun rack while you’re here?” Thor just looked at him. “I was kidding.”

“I see.” The pair turned as the door slid open to emit SG1. Daniel sported a bloodied shirt at the shoulder, but the skin beneath was fine.

“General, nice to see you. Come to join the party?”

“O’Neil, Daniel, Carter, are you ok?” He nodded to Teal’c. Hardly anything upset the Jafa.
“Oh we’re fine. We were planning a round of shuffleboard on the promenade deck. Care for a game?”

“Have a seat please,” Thor waved to the available seats next to and behind Hammond.

The door opened again, and a nine foot tall alien with dreadlocks down to his hips, strode into the room. His mask was decorated with numerous symbols around the edge, from one eye socket up and around to the other. He clicked and bowed his head to the Askard. Thor nodded, and gestured to a seat at the opposite end of the table from his seat. The all alien took the position but he did not sit down. Thor moved more crystals on his panel, and a tube of odd gasses cascade around the new arrival. He then shifted other crystals, then looked at the new guest. “Your atmosphere is around you, you may remove your mask if you wish. Also the translation matrix has been activated. You may speak, and be understood, as well as know what is said.”

“I greet the Little Knife, on behalf of those aboard my ship. I am Raz’Bett, Elder to the vessel, Re-tao. I am here to claim my crew and their rightful possessions. Living or dead.” With that said, Raz’Bett gathered his cloak in one hand, pulling it aside, and sat down. He purred to Carter, who sat to his right, noting her slender frame and obvious trained body for fighting. “Soft one.” The purr translated to, and he glared at Thor.

“All words, and vocalisations will be translated,” he stated flatly. “Do forgive the remark Major Cater, I am sure it was meant in a complimentary fashion.” Raz’Bett nodded, twitching his mandibles as he looked at her. Carter suddenly felt rather naked to his eyes, and shifted uneasily in her seat.

Just then the doors opened again, and another alien walked in. This one was like the first, only his dreads were to the middle of his back. He made his way to the elder, and they shook each other’s shoulders in greeting. “They can understand all of what we say,” Raz’Bett warned, the second nodded and turned his attention to the gathering.

“I am D’Gon, Blooded Hunter. You oomans will not get her back! You do not have the right!”

O’Neil went to say something, but stopped as Thor took up the challenge. “The legitimacy of your claim will be discussed in detail. And it will be done calmly, if your people are to retain your observation rights to this planet.”

Raz’Bett placed his hand to the younger hunter’s armour. “Be still with your heart. You have the claim, it is legal. This is formality, you know that.”

“I hate politics!”

“Politics has its place, as does the hunt. This is where your training in patients comes to play. Remember. You will win this.” They turned as the door opened, and a group of humans and another alien entered. It was Val’Roch, purring and clicking over the small human female. He must have said something funny, for she laughed openly.

“Perhaps another time Val’Roch. Now remember. You need to change the bandages every day. Make sure there’s no infections and – I can’t believe I’m saying this – there scars should be very pronounced when healed.”

“I thank you,” he said, flexing his arm, noting the tightness of the bandage. “Are you sure you do not require a demonstration, or even a visual inspection?” The male reached for his belt, and Raz’Bett barked abruptly at him. Val’Roch stopped, and looked at the human.
“No, no, that’s quite alright. I’ll take your word for it.”

“Are you alright?” Thor asked of the doctor.

“Yes Thor, quite alright. As per your request, this young man will sport two very ugly scars, befitting the wounds inflicted by the bullets he was hit with.”

“See D’Gon,” he flexed his arm again, “She wraps wounds well. She would make a perfect addition to the clan.”

“Perhaps another time,” D’Gon eased, as the young hunter joined him.

“I will return you to your base,” Thor announced.

“What about Tya? I’d like to examine her. From what Val’Roch has told me, her injuries were quite extensive.”

D’Gon glared at the younger hunter. “I only told her of her dislocated shoulder, D’Gon. The rest is up to you.”

Doctor Phraser looked at the older hunter, but Thor was the one who drew her attention. “Tya will be fine. She has responded to treatment quite well. She will be joining us shortly.” Before Phraser could protest, Thor activated another sequence on his panel, and the medical team was gone in the flash that would take them home.

The door opened once more, and Tya cautiously strode into the room. Carter stood, but a wave from Thor warned her to stay where she was. Carter nodded. D’Gon hissed at the humans from beneath his mask, but turned his gaze back to his female, noting where she had been injured, scanning deeply, and seeing that she was healed. The Askard did marvellous work. There wasn’t so much as a sub-dermal blemish. She was perfect.

She wasn’t wearing the dress he had made for her. Yes it had been badly damaged, but there was the principle of it. She wore a white gown, simple, no design, no special twist to the threads to make it shine. Just a white gown, complete with simple white slippers. If her gold dress was not returned to her when they left, he would take her to his quarters, and shred this ridiculous cloth from her body, and make her a new one from the sheet on his bed. He’d use the tiny teeth that he’d saved and carried with him. They were his own, saved since he was a pup. He’d wanted to use them in something special, but couldn’t figure out what. Now he knew. He’d use his OWN teeth, to bead the thread that would hold the dress. Not only would she wear a permanent mark of his clan on her perfect skin, but his own teeth would lie on her skin, as a warning that he would kill any and all who dared to touch her. He could feel a prideful growl rise in his chest, he quickly stifled it, remembering what Raz had said about the translators being active.

Tya scanned the humans at the table, but refused to advance from the door where she’d entered. Carter was there, Daniel too, Teal’c from the party, and two men she did not recognize. They all wore military uniforms. The horrible green color staring back at her. The same green color that she’d seen eight years prior.

“Would you please have a seat next to me, Tya?” Thor asked. She met Thor’s eyes for only a moment, then turned to the group again.

D’Gon could see her heart racing, he could hear the soft intakes of her breath as she began to panic. Carefully he placed himself between the group and her, so that his massive chest filled her line of sight. She had little choice but to look up to his face, still hidden by the mask. She smiled. “Sit at my side, Child Maker,” he stated softly.

She stared at him in shock. She understood him!
