ok brace yourself......THIS CHAPTER IS INSANE!!!!!!

Chapter 10: Fever

Abby’s shoulder jerked back when the bullet hit her, making her loose her footing and fall onto her back on the gravel road. Her head flew back and made immediate contact with the surface, making her black out for a couple seconds before her sight came back, blurred and dancing around her.

The pain from her shoulder soon dulled out all of her other senses. She couldn’t hear the swords clashing against each other; she couldn’t see the group of men surrounding her limp body. She could only focus on the bullet wound; pain soared through her body in strong waves. She was losing blood and fast. Everything around her was moving around in circles, until she gave up the fight and let darkness take over.

Her shoulder still felt as though it was on fire the next time she woke up. She tried to open her eyes and see if the men had taken her somewhere, but she didn’t even have enough strength to do that. She could hear muffled voices around her but could on make out part of what the people were saying. She put all her focus on the voices, trying to pick out one she could recognize. But they were all strange to her clouded mind.

“She’s gettin’ the fever cap’n.” A low voice said beside her. The man looked up from her shoulder to his captain. He had never seen him bring a hurt woman back to the ship before.

“You get the bullet out then?” Jack asked. The man nodded.

“Aye, but she’s drenched ta the bone cap’n. I can’t tell if i’s from sweat or that blasted rain.” The man replied. “What happened to her?” He asked hesitantly, not knowing if it would be overstepping his boundaries.

“Got attacked.” Jack replied simply. “Don’ know why.” He said when he noticed his first mates eyebrows furrow.

“Why’d ya bring her here?” The man asked.

“I know her a little Gibbs, now go see if Peters is back yet.” Jack said as he walked over to the bed where Abby was laying. She was shaking badly, yet sweat was visible on her brow. Jack let out a sigh and walked over to his rum cupboard. He pulled out a bottle and made his way over to his desk. He never planned on bring her back to his ship a second time. He planned on losing her sometime after he talked to the Turners. He leaned back on his chair and took a long drink out of the bottle. His crew was growing restless, they needed to leave soon. All of them wanted to go back out to the sea, but he can’t just leave with Abby on board. He let out a groan of frustration and slammed the rum down on his desk. They had to leave soon, who cares what would happen with the crew… He would go mad (er) if they stayed here much longer.

Jack looked over to Abby’s body. The bandage that was wrapped around her shoulder was almost completely drenched in blood. He shook his head and walked back over to the bed. He lifted the edge of the bandage up and looked at the wound. She was lucky the bullet didn’t hit any bones; it only tore through some meat and muscle. Jack picked up the extra bandages Gibbs had left by the bed, and unrolled them. Nothing might have been broken in her shoulder but she was definitely bleeding badly. When he went to unwrap the bandage from her shoulder she shuddered instantly. Jack furrowed his brows, he knew the fever was just starting to kick in, but didn’t expect her to shrink away from him at every touch.

“th-th-their not-t…leav-ve me al-l-lone.” Abby whimpered. Jack’s face changed to one of pure confusion. She shouldn’t be able to tell he was even here.

“I ain’t gona hurt ya luv.” Jack whispered back and started to take off her bandage.

“…n-no i-I can’t…” Abby continued to groan in pain when Jack would hit a tender spot on her shoulder, but didn’t do much else.

“See, didn’t hurt ya at all.” Jack slurred when he finished. He stood up straight and looked at her body again. She was still soaked in sweat. He could see her eyes darting around under her eyelids.

“Havin’ a bad dream Ab?” He whispered to her lifeless form.

“i-I won-n’t listen to y-y-ou.” She mumbled as she threw her head from side to side. Jack reached over to her and with both hands held her head still. He reached over to the end table beside the bed and grabbed a rag.

“Why not?” Jack asked as he wiped the sweat of her brow.

“y-your not-t rea-a…” She trailed off as her confused mind thought of something else.

“Wait, no wait…I’m not what?” Jack asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

“…l-leave…” She stuttered quietly.

“Why?” Jack asked as he kneeled back down beside the bed.

“Get out. Y-your not r-real.” She moaned. As soon as she finished talking her body shook violently. Her arms and legs thrashed around, almost hitting Jack in the face. She arched her back and let out another groan from the pain that was shooting from her shoulder. Jack jumped up and crawled over to her wriggling body, trying to pin her arms and legs down. Somehow her clouded mind got her to put her hands on his chest and push him back off her. Her body immediately started to shake again. Jack crawled over the bed to her body and pinned her arms back down, putting most of his weight on them, making sure they can’t get free. Her body tensed instantly, then started to fight back against his hold. She tried to pull her arms away from him but he held on. Her body fought hard against him. She almost sat straight up once but Jack put his own weight on her chest and pushed her back down.

She didn’t stop until a few minutes later, with Jack actually lying on top of her to keep her from hurting herself. Sweat had started to form along Jack’s body. Abby shuddered underneath him and let out a moan. Jack looked at her face intently, trying to see if the lapse was truly over. When he was certain she wouldn’t do anything else, he slowly crawled off of her wet body and walked back over to his desk.

“Nope… you can’t stay here.” Jack mumbled under his breath before taking a swig of rum.

The next time Abby woke she was finally able to open her eyes. She recognized the room instantly. The Black Pearl. She tried to sit up but a pain shot through her body. She looked at her shoulder and for the first time, took notice of the bandages covered in blood.

“Ya got shot.” Abby jumped at the voice and spun her head around to find its owner. Jack stood in the doorway to the cabin.

“I can see that.” She replied coldly. Jack rolled his eyes before replying to her.

“You’ve been asleep for three days deary, and I had a slight problem with you sleepin’ on my ship for so long since we needed to get out of that port. So your pry going to be mad when I tell ya this…” Jack said quickly before trailing off at the end as he walked over to his rum cupboard and dug out another bottle.

“Tell me what?” Abby asked hesitantly. His tone giving her a hint to brace for the worst.

“Well ya see luv… do you remember when I told ya it was about time for my ship to leave port?” Jack asked. He waited for her to reply before continuing with his ‘problem’. “OK well, you were hurt and I couldn’t jus leave ya on the street for those men to take ya and do with what they please, so I brought ya back here, not knowing you would be asleep for so long, but you were…sowelefttheport.” Jack finished by slurring the last five words together more than usual and saying them faster. Luckily Abby’s mind still was clouded over from the fever and didn’t even notice he was talking. During the middle of his explanation her mind traveled to more interesting things. Like the tan skin showing where his shirt was not buttoned.

“Abby luv, pay attention this is important.” Jack said irritably but a smirk came to his face when he noticed where she was staring. “Did ya get anything I just said to ya?” Jack asked. Abby just shook her head and closed her eyes. Being awake the last five minutes had drained out all of the energy that was left in her body.

“Sorry Jack.” She murmured before drifting off into yet another restless sleep. Jack shook his head and made his way back out onto the deck of the Pearl. Looking out behind the ship he could see the little dot on the horizon that was Port Royal.

“Cap’n.” Gibbs yelled from the helm.

“Aye?” Jack yelled back. He turned to face his first mate who was waving for him to come up there. “What do ya want?” Jack asked when he was close enough.

“We shoulda waited a couple days more cap’n. Havin’ that woman on board is goin’ to bring—“ Gibbs started his regular speech but Jack cut him off.

“The crew was ready to go Gibbs so I left, and she got shot there so I am sure that place has nothing left for her now.” Jack said then took the helm. Gibbs just shook his head and left to go do his other duties, leaving Jack to his thoughts. He wasn’t able to do much thinking before one of his crew run up beside him, panting.

“Cap’n that woman’s goin’ insane. Breakin’ everythin’ in yer cabin she is.” The man choked out. Jacks eyes grew wide. My rum, was the only thing that went through his head before he turned the helm over to the man and ran down to his cabin. He could hear things breaking from outside the door. He slowed his pace and inched the door open carefully. Abby was running around the room breaking anything she got her hands on. He could tell the fever was still clouding her mind over but it wasn’t as bad anymore so she knew what she was doing a little bit.

“Your not real!! Just leave me alone!!” Abby yelled out to no one. She ran over to the bed and pulled off one of the thin sheets and started ripping it apart. “You have done nothing good for me!! Why would I listen to you.” Jack sat there in confusion. He didn’t expect her to talk to herself like this. He opened the door a little wider to get a better look at his room. The empty rum bottles that were sitting on his desk were smashed on the floor. Some of his maps were torn into what seemed like a million pieces. Luckily she left his one good map alone. Abby stood up when she finished with the sheet and walked over to the rum cupboard. Jacks body froze. If she broke any of those bottles, he might just send her back to Port Royal in a small boat! She threw open the door and looked at the bottles. Jack used her hesitation to grab her and pull her away from the cupboard.

“You don’t touch that Abby dear.” He said in a low growl. Abby fought hard against him. Her legs flew up in the air and she let out a loud screech. When her feet came back down one made contact with his kneecap, almost knocking him off his feet.

“LET ME GO!” She yelled over and over again. Jack only held on tighter. Convinced that if he let her go she would go straight back over to his precious rum and ruin it all.

“Can’t luv, now stop fightin.” He shouted back. He practically dragged her out of his cabin, and ignoring the stares of his crew, he took her to the galley. The only things she could ruin in there were apples. He let her go when he had the door shut behind him, she ran to the other side of the room and sank down in the corner.

“W-what do you want?” She asked. Her eyes were still glazed over, but Jack knew she would remember this when the fever was gone.

“You to calm down.” Jack replied and made his way over to her. She tried to back away from him but the wall stopped her from doing so.

“Please don’t hurt me.” She said in a whisper.

“I wont Abby.” Jack said and kneeled down in front of her. The bandage on her shoulder was once again covered in blood. No doubt her last activities opening up whatever kind of scab it had.

“We need to change that.” Jack said. He reached out and unwrapped the bandage. It wasn’t bleeding as bad as before but it still needed to be stopped quickly. She had already lost too much blood. Jack looked at the wound a few moments longer then stood up and grabbed what looked like reasonably clean cloth from one of the tables and rewrapped her shoulder. When he was done he looked at her face. She was very pale. He had tried to feed her a few times but she would never swallow. Every time he gave her a drink though she would gulp it down like no tomorrow. He shook his head and picked up her limp body. One arm under her legs and one around her shoulders. He was sure this lapse was over, so it would be safe to take her back to his cabin to sleep. He put her on his bed, then looked at the damage she had done in his room. It would take a week for him to clean, but… he looked down at Abby and a smirk came to his face.

“She’ll get better soon.” He said to himself before leaving the cabin.
