Chapter 9 - Trickery

Oria rolled over in the hammock as Jones left the cabin her eyes watching the door suspiciously. After several minutes she was satisfied that he wasn’t going to return and quickly stepped out of the hammock and crept towards the organ. She froze as the door clanged open and a chuckle issued out, “You really think he’d leave the key there now?” Maccus whispered as he closed the door behind him. Oria straightened up and turned around to face him.

“Look you supposedly have what you want to ‘destroy’ me so why don’t you just go and play with all your little crustacean buddies at being pirates.” Maccus glared at her and strode across the planks till he was stood millimetres from her, “You think I’m afraid of you? You’re very sadly mistaken if you think that. I’ll be dancing rings around you long before you realise the dance has even started.” She whispered threateningly, “Come on Maccus, you’re no threat to me… in a few years time you’ll be nothing more than a plank on this ship.” He snarled and stepped forwards expecting her to step backwards. Oria didn’t move, “And I’ll be the one screwing the lantern into your thick forehead as slowly as possible.” She brushed past him harshly and headed for the door. Just as her hand brushed the handle Maccus’ palm slammed into the wood holding it closed.

“You think I’m going to let you walk away after that?” He grasped her shoulders and spun her round slamming her back against the door. She merely chuckled and smirked.

“What you going to do big guy? Beat me up? Teach me the error of my ways? Oh no what is a poor little girl to do?” She faked wiping away a tear and pouted before smirking, “Come on Maccus, you know that if you even laid a fingertip on me Jones would have your guts lining his ship.” She pushed him away harshly and turned to open the door once again, she paused as Maccus chuckled.

“That’s right go and hide behind your protector.” Oria closed the door and turned to face him fighting down the anger.

“I don’t need him to protect me.” She drew her sword and Maccus followed with a bold laugh.

”Finally. I’ll get to give you the beating you deserve.” She chuckled and lunged.

:/

Jack snapped the spy glass shut and glanced at Gibbs, the man was glaring at him, “I still don’t think it’s right Jack. What if…”

“I live my life by ‘what if’ Mr Gibbs. This is one that is worth the risk.” Will stepped up alongside them and glanced across at the wrecked ship.

“That’s the Flying Dutchman? She doesn’t look much.” Will whispered with a disbelieving tone, Jack glanced at him, all his hopes rested on this lad. They had discussed, planned and shielded Jack’s true reasons of him going over there alone for nearly two days on their way here.

“Neither do you. Do NOT underestimate her.” Will glanced at him curiously, “So what’s your plan then?” Will sighed, why had he let himself be shanghaied into assisting Jack in this suicidal mission. Locating a key that he didn’t think existed on a ship that was smashed in half and partially submerged.

“I row over, search the ship till I find your bloody key.” Jack nodded encouragingly.

“And if you encounter any crewmen?” Will glanced at him.

“I cut down anyone in my path.” He intoned before side-stepping the pirates and heading down to the row-boat. Jack looked impressed.

“I like it, simple and easy to remember.” Gibbs looked at him pointedly.

“Are you sure this is the right thing to do?” Jack glared at him condescendingly before tugging back his shirt sleeve to bear the tattoo Oria had given him to the moonlight.

“The second I set foot on that ship she’d know, she knows exactly where I am all the time. Besides, he stands a better chance of not only avoiding detection but a smaller sentence because of his love for what’s-her-name back in Port Royal. Either way, in my opinion better him than me.” Gibbs nodded slowly as Jack stalked away and peered down at Will as he flopped into the wildly flailing row boat, “Hey… lad, if you get caught say Jack Sparrow sent you to settle his debt. Might just save your life.” Will just glared up at him before rowing away.

:/

Oria slashed at Maccus thigh and watched with satisfaction as her blade sliced cleanly into the muscle. He screeched before launching an attack back on her with full blown anger behind every strike, the anger increasing every time she blocked or dodged him. He pulled up blowing like a bull chasing its tormentor and glared at her, “Come on Maccus, you’ve not even scratched me yet.”

Maccus charged again and she side-stepped kicking him up the back-side soundly as he stormed past. He shouted furiously and stumbled into the organ with a shriek of its notes peeling into the air. Oria spun one of her blades arrogantly but paused as her ears picked up the sound of approaching footsteps. She sheathed her swords quickly and watched as Maccus charged her, she didn’t move and let him knock her to the floor. He paused realising she wasn’t retaliating as the door creaked open Oria pushed against his chest violently as Jones stepped in she shouted for Maccus to leave her be.

Too late he realised what she had done, she had framed him and as Jones grasped his throat he was sure his life would end. He smacked against the wall several feet away with a grunt of pain and slid down it, “What exactly do you think you are doing?” Jones voice peeled across the room that cold fury rippling over every single note. Oria scrabbled up and stood next to Jones holding her shirt closed.

“He tried to rape me.” Jones glared at him furiously, Oria smirking from behind his shoulder as Maccus trembled.

“You know that she is not for you to touch! Get on deck and if I see you near her again it’ll be the locker for ya!” Maccus nodded and ran out of the room, too stupefied at her trickery to fight back. Jones didn’t glance back at her, “Get up on deck as well, we’re nearing the wrecked ship.” His voice was tight and she nodded before heading up. As she cleared the deck she brushed up to Maccus.

“You’re playing with the big boys now darling, best get your game up or this’ll be over before it’s even got going.” She chuckled cruelly and swayed away.
