Chapter 10: Final Battle
“Shit! No answer!”
“Fine. Leave a message and I’ll try to follow these chaotic directions she gave me and hopefully find this place before morning.” Lori and Will had switched seats and now she was the driver, heading for Dr. Gordon’s.
Kia and Mark were being “partners” slapping each other when one started to doze. It was taking a toll on all five teens, all were exhausted beyond belief. And they still had one more obstacle to face: Jason Voorhees.
A tire blew just as Lori was making a right turn, causing her to lose control of the van for several seconds, quickly gaining it and pulling the van to a stop. “Is everyone alright?” she asked, turning to look at the three in the back. She’d already seen Will; he seemed unhurt.
What happened next was even more sudden and unexpected: a head rolled on the hood. Everyone screamed, none louder than Kia. The face looked at them, eyes opened, and the mouthed moved. “Oh god!” moaned Kia, backing away.
Lori came to an even worse realization: “It’s Blake.”
And it was.
“Well well. Children of Springwood! Going for a little joy ride?!” They could only stare, mouths gaping open, horror in their faces. “Lori, boy only one thing I ever wanted was to end up with you. Shame it won’t work out. And this must be loverboy! Well, let me give you some advice-watch your back around her. You just never know when she’ll cut you down!” The head was abruptly picked up.
“Oh shit! What now?!”
THUMP! Something landed on the hood, causing a loud bang to sound out and rattled the van unsteadily. A machete tore through the roof, missing Linderman by an inch. The five raced out of the van, none turning around to see their attacker.
“Oh god! How did he find me?!”
“Calm down! We’re gonna be alright. Ok?”
The machete tore into Linderman’s shoulder, dragging him into the night.
---
They were in a boiler room-big shocker. They always ended up in a boiler room eventually. The metal around them glinted dimly in the light, a red that seemed almost sinister. Walking through it was like walking through a maze of pipes and other metallic objects.
Neither of them are in their “warrior mode” though they’ve both fought Freddy and he knew what they were capable of. They were on the ground floor, walking slowly, cautiously. Gibb felt like she was going to faint, the worry of earlier that day, now she had to fight Freddy. What a great way to end an already horrible day.
Trey seemed ready, his eyes sharp and hawk-like almost. He was completely focused on the mission and wanted to end it that night.
They heard it: metal scraping against metal. It was a sound that would haunt them forever. Trey looked at Gibb and nodded. She nodded back. It was time to change.
---
Will and Mark raced after Linderman, who had been dragged through the woods and out of sight, though they could hear his screams loud and clear. “What is that?!” Will asked, running faster and faster.
“I don’t know! Freddy looks nothing like that!” It seemed like they would have never caught up to Linderman and the monster with the machete, but, suddenly, he disappeared, leaving behind a bloody Linderman.
Linderman moaned. The machete had torn into his shoulder and dragged through his back, nearly all the way through. “Shit.”
“Leave me. I’m a goner.”
“No way. Help me.” Mark and Will picked him up as gently as they could. “Where the hell did he go?”
“I don’t know. It was like he was grabbed and dragged away.”
---
He came at Trey blindingly fast, almost knocking him to the ground. “Well well, more Elm Street brats that need to be taken care of!” He swiped at Trey, missing.
“That all you got?”
“Oh, what a cocky one we have today. Well, I took your sister, no doubt she wants you to join her.”
That did it. Trey slammed himself at Freddy, knocking him backwards. “Get up! Come on you stupid son of a bitch! Let’s see what you are made of!” Freddy stopped and looked around. “Later kid. Right now I need to finish something.” With a nod, he disappeared.
“What the hell?!” Gibb came forward and gently tapped his shoulder. “Well, what now?” She shrugged. He sighed and tucked his sword back to his leg. “Let’s wait. He’s bound to come back eventually.” ---
Mark and Will had managed to get Linderman back to the van, the girls had been too shocked to do anything. Once they had him laying down, Lori doing her best to keep pressure on the wound and not get grossed out, they quickly set out to changing the tire.
Mark was just handing the jack to Will when he saw it: in the driver’s side mirror, he saw his brother. He gave a quick shake of his head. No. Bobby was dead. He looked up again. Now he was seeing something that had replayed a million times in his mind: his brother’s death.
Will was busy changing the tire, which is why he didn’t notice that Mark had wandered off. He was walking back into the woods, shaking his head, but moving closer to the mirage. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Much as he wanted to turn away, he couldn’t. He watched his brother slide into the tub, watched him slit his wrists.
He turned away-and found himself face to face with Freddy. “Boo!” He could only stand and stare. “What? Didn’t you like your reuinion?”
“This can’t be happening. I’m not asleep. Will!” Will spun in the direction Mark had cried, realizing that he couldn’t see him. “Will!” Will started to run, following the direction the voice came from.
“Mark? Mark?” Silence answered. Mark touched his shoulder, making him jump. “Jesus! You scared the hell out of me! What were you yelling for?”
“He’s here.”
“Who’s here?”
“Freddy.” His voice shook and his body moreso, but he managed to keep a brave front. Will sighed. He’d been through the Freddy deal a million times.
“What are you talking about? None of us are asleep.”
“I can’t explain it. But he’s here. I saw him.” Swallowing, he said “Will, I saw Bobby.”
That was as far as he got. The next second the woods gave way and the five were in a boiler room. “Welcome to my hell! Welcome!” Will and Mark raced back to where the girls where, finding them nowhere. They heard Freddy laugh again. “One two, Freddy’s coming for you…” Suddenly, he landed between the two and his razors dug into Mark’s stomach.
Mark screamed in agony, Will beat his fist into Freddy, all to no avail. Freddy dropped him as fast as he had grabbed him. Mark fell to the ground, blood flowing steadily from four deep wounds.
It was then when Freddy saw Jason. “You! I made you! And how do you repay me?! By destroying my children! These are mine! All mine!” He jumped at Jason, Jason quickly moved and tried to get him with his machete, hitting air.
Suddenly, Jason was shoved across the room. “Sorry pal. This is my fight.” Freddy sneared.
“So, back for more?” Trey pulled his sword and advanced, bringing it up and down, only to have it caught by Freddy. “Silly boy! You can’t win with me!”
“Freddy! Where you hiding your punk ass at?” He slammed Trey, only to have his own body fly across the boiler room, slamming into the far wall.
“Oh. The invisible one. Well, two can play that game.”
“Freddy!” Agitated, he turned to see Kia. He laughed. “What are you laughing at? I’m about to take your Christmas sweater ass out!” A machete struck her from behind, right in the stomach. Her face contorted and she fell limp. Jason threw her aside like a ragdoll.
Trey struggled to his feet. Stay hidden, Gibb. Stay hidden. He moved slowly, Freddy and Jason were circling each other, like kids on a school playground. He waited, then raced at Freddy, sword out, swinging for his arm. He connected. Freddy looked down in horror. “Oh this is not good. Not good at all.” Jason advanced and shoved his sword into him. Freddy groaned.
“Jason!” The monstor turned and Lori dug Freddy’s claw into his gut. “Go to hell!” She shoved it in deeper, until it purtruded through his back. A blinding light flashed. When it was gone, both Freddy and Jason were gone.
Lori sighed. Gibb magically reappeared. Will held Mark, now dead, tears falling soundlessly down his face. Trey stood and limped to Gibb. “You’re hurt” he said, quickly ripping off his bandana and tieing it around her thigh. She winced and leaned into him.
She turned to Lori, who was bent over Kia. Lori spun. “Gibb!” The two hugged, tears of both joy and pain filled their face.
Trey sucked in a quick breath. “Let’s go home.”
