Chapter 10

Among The Stars

Chapter 10

Mara sighed as she stepped back and looked around the room. “Well, what do you think?” she asked.

“I think my brother is one lucky man. So, you have everything you need?” Leia beamed.

“Yep. Leia, do you think I’m rushing into admitting my feelings to Luke? I mean, we haven’t physically seen each other in over a year,” Mara replied.

“Mara, I have no doubt you and Luke belong together. If you love him, you should tell him,” Leia said.

“Thanks Leia,” Mara smiled.

“Anytime. Now, you better get ready. Luke will be here in half an hour,” Leia nodded.

Luke sighed as he entered his apartment. After dropping his flight bag by the door, he turned and gasped. His apartment was bathed in candle light and sultry music was playing. He also noticed the candle lit dinner for two.

*Sit down Farmboy. I’ll be out in a minute,* Mara instructed.

*Mara? What’s going on?* Luke asked as he sat at the table set for two.

*You’ll see,* she answered.

Luke shrugged as he removed the covers from the two plates. A delicious dinner of nerf steak and steamed vegetables were on the plates. A bottle of red Corellian wine was on the table as well.

*Do you want me to open the wine?* he inquired.

*Sure,* she replied.

Luke was just opening the wine when he heard her clear her throat. Smiling, he turned. He smile vanished as his mouth fell open. His eyes blinked a few times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

“Welcome home,” Mara grinned.

“Um…uh…hi,” Luke stuttered.

“How about I pour this and you sit down,” she suggested as she plucked the bottle out of his hands.

Luke dropped heavily back into his chair. Mara gracefully poured them each a glass of wine then sat down across from him. Unconcerned by Luke’s reaction, Mara began eating. After a few minutes of not moving, Mara looked up at Luke.

“Something wrong with your food?” she asked.

“Huh?” he stated, shaking his head as he met her eyes.

“Your food. Is something wrong with it?” she repeated.

“No, it’s fine,” he said.

“Really? Then why haven’t you touched it?” she questioned, leaning her face on her hand.

“You want to know why?” he replied.

“I am a little curious,” she nodded innocently.

“Because you’re sitting across from me naked that’s why!” he cried.

‘He’s distracted. Good,’ she thought evilly. “How is my state of undress effecting your stomach?” she countered as she took a sip of her wine.

That was all Luke could take. Mara let out a squeal of surprise when she suddenly found herself draped over Luke’s shoulder. A few moments later she was dumped unceremoniously on his bed.

“Luke, what are you doing?” she demanded, a little worried she had taken thing too far when she saw the wildness in his azure eyes.

“One year. 12 months. I haven’t seen you in one year. I come home and find you here. Then to top it off, you sit across from me naked. What did you expect my reaction to be?” he growled as he turned from the bed and faced the window.

Mara felt her face flush with embarrassment. Quietly, she got off the bed and left the room. She slipped on her clothes in the guest room, gathered her things, then headed for the door. She had just reached the front door when she felt his presence behind her.

“Where are you going?” he asked.

“I’m leaving. There’s no point in making a bigger fool of myself than I already have. I won’t bother you again,” she answered solemnly.

Luke realized she thought he was rejecting her. He closed the distance between them in two strides. He grabbed her by the shoulders and spun her around to face could speak, he kissed her.

He kissed her tenderly, letting all the love he felt for her flow through the kiss and their bond through the Force. After a few minutes, Mara relaxed into his arms. Slowly, he pulled away, but still held her.

“Mara. Mara look at me,” he whispered. With tears in her eyes, she looked up at him. “Never and I repeat never doubt my feelings for you,”

“You seemed angry. I mean you turned away from me,” she said.

“I did that to keep control. When I saw you naked, all I wanted was to knock everything off the table I didn’t want to hurt you physically. Instead I hurt you by my actions,” he sighed and held her tightly.

“Luke, there’s something I was going to tell you tonight after dinner,” she replied.

“What’s that?” he questioned.

“I…I love you Luke Skywalker,” she stated.

“Oh Mara. I love you too. I’ve wanted to tell you for over a year now. When I found you and brought you back to Coruscant, I knew then that I need you by my side. This past year without you was hell. I don’t know how many times I had to stop myself from going to find you,” he smiled brightly.

Mara returned the smile. She slid her arms around his neck and kissed him once more. Luke pulled her tightly to him as he deepened the kiss. Without breaking the kiss, he gathered her into his arms and headed for the bedroom.
