Chapter 10
Riddick didn’t sleep well. The sandwich didn’t seem to set well with his stomach as it protested by cramping and rumbling. His mind was racing with images of Alexis, Slam, Matt, Jack, and his life over all. Every time he seemed to drift off to sleep he woke abruptly sweating and trembling. He didn’t know how long he had been in his quarters in and out of sleep but it felt like forever. “What the fuck is happening to me?” he muttered out loud.
“You are experiencing side effects to being regenerated.”
Riddick jumped in bed and looked in the corner of his room. Alexis was sitting in a large chair in the corner of the room.
“Alexis?” Riddick whispered.
She stood up and walked quietly over to Riddick and sat on his bed. Riddick moved away from her showing his discomfort with the situation. Alexis looked at him and then gave him a small smile. “I came out of my death state about 2 hours ago. I had something to eat and then cleaned up before coming in here about 20 minutes ago.” She looked down and placed her hand gently on top of Riddick’s. He shuddered a little but didn’t pull away. “I will leave if you want me to Riddick, but I just had to make sure you were Ok.” Her eyes started to tear a bit but she kept her eyes on Riddick’s. He looked at her eyes and took a deep breath, then shook his head. “I want you to stay Alexis. I just…I’m having a hard time taking all this in. The pain in my body, the loss of memory, my death and resurrection, it’s a lot for me to have to adjust to.”
Alexis nodded in understanding and she moved closer to him. “Lay down and get some rest Riddick, we can talk later.” Riddick lay down on his side and Alexis gently crawled over his legs and lay behind him. She wrapped her arms around him and stroked his temples and chest. Riddick moaned quietly as he felt Alexis’s embrace and touch sweep him into a deep soothing sleep free of horror and the unknown.
