Chapter Eleven: Violet in the City

Well as usual I start with an apology for being so slow. But I really am sorry. I haven’t felt much like writing or even reading lately, even though I love doing both. I have a tendency to be lazy that I fight inconsistently. Just seeing the inside of my car would explain everything. *blushes* Anyway inspiration is back so, giddy-up!

Seditionary – Thank you for another very wonderful review! Don’t worry too much about the mansion, though. The Joker always has an ace in the hole!

Monk – Yep. Toasted about sums it up! lol

Ero Sennin – Thank you again, my friend! I’m not completely satisfied with Bumbles’ demise, he probably should have suffered more. But anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Your comments always make me think ahead and inspire new ideas, so I am especially grateful! Hope the following is worth the wait.

ROGUEFURY -- I am also a completely sadistic romantic! I really like that phrase. lol!! Angsty romance and smexxy smut are just a few of my favorite things! And THANK YOU for the review!!!!!!
Jokerfan25 – Oh, please forgive me for my lapse! I thought about your review a lot this week and it gave me a needed kick in the ass. Thank you, my friend. Hope you like this chapter and I have already written most of the next chapter so I’ll update in a day or so (I mean it this time! ;-P)

Aleera -- Thank you for the review!!!! I’m so happy you like the story.

Mademoiselle -- Your incredibly kind review is appreciated more than you know!!! You made me happy!

JokersChaosPrincess -- Your review has given me some much needed motivation to pull my head out of my butt. lol!! BTW, I love your name!

BiPolarPanda – I am so happy you like the story! Thank you so much for sticking with me!! Sorry for the snail’s pace. I’ll update again in a day or two – I promise. Hope you like chapter 11!

Chapter Eleven: Violet in the City

Dr. Wolf was awakened unexpectedly in the early morning hours by the smooth sinuous voice of WEB Corp.’s head of security, Mr. Crow. As far as Dr. Wolf knew, the man didn’t have a first name. He sounded unusually excited and that alone had the doctor’s attention.

Mr. Crow had the bearing and all the charm of a mortician. He was tall, thin and bloodless with long black hair and black eyes, thin lips and a long narrow nose. He looked like a crow and radiated the same predatory sharpness. In truth, Dr. Wolf didn’t really care for the man. He was…creepy. But he was deadly effective.

What Alexander Wolf didn’t know, was that the strange and disturbing Mr. Crow was, in fact, very fond of the doctor. He didn’t consider himself homosexual or even heterosexual, actually. He usually didn’t think about sex at all. But the moment he had laid eyes on the doctor, he became completely obsessed.

Mr. Crow was a man who valued control and made it a mission never to lose his, but there were times when he watched Dr. Wolf, that he was overwhelmed with the desire to take hold of him, strip him of his perfectly tailored suit and pin him down on that spotless desk of his. Then he would really give in to his obsessive fantasies and fuck him into oblivion.

It was this passionate fixation on the doctor that made him resent WEBB Corp.’s lost project. He knew that Dr. Wolf had feelings of his own for her, whether he admitted to himself or not. And Mr. Crow didn’t like it one bit! He had no idea what he could or would do about it, but it was a source of great angst for him. However, he knew his news would make Dr. Wolf happy, so he was anxious to deliver it.

Mr. Crow mentally shook himself. “Dr. Wolf, I have intriguing news. It seems the girl has finally made a move. I just received word from one of our contacts. They have informed me that emergency crews are responding to a large house fire on the East side of the city, on the other side of the Narrows. Apparently the blaze is so large that several fire crews have been called out.”

“Officially, the large estate has been unoccupied for years. But it appears to have been home to someone or some ones; maybe someone like the Joker. We could be at the scene in a matter of minutes.”

Dr. Wolf’s cold handsome face broke into a dazzling smile. Mr. Crow could almost hear it.

“Thank you, Mr. Crow. Do not waste any more time talking with me. I will be ready and waiting for your arrival. Let’s go get my girl.” Dr. Wolf ordered.

Violet walked slowly down the darkened tree-lined streets of one of Gotham’s formerly grand neighborhood. She had no destination. She simply walked, dazed and unfocused. Her bare feet made no sound on road as she clutched tightly at the Joker’s singed purple overcoat covering her and stared straight ahead.

The lights of a passing car lit her back briefly as it passed, coming to sudden stop several yards ahead of her. Oblivious to her surroundings, Violet continued walking until she drew up to the waiting car.

As she passed the car, the driver poked his head out of the window and asked smiling, “Need a ride, honey?”

Violet stopped and turned her head at the voice directed at her.

A large man with smiling eyes leaned from the car window grinning. “It’s awfully late for a sweet thing like you to be taking a… “He stopped short when he saw her pale drawn face. The driver immediately pulled back into the car as if he had been slapped.

“H…Hey, I…” he stammered. Then, he noticed Violet’s left hand. She opened her fist, and bright flashing sparks began dancing merrily across her palm. Violet focused her eyes on him, tilted her head and smiled serenely. With screeching tires and a spray of gravel, the overly friendly driver took off, fishtailing on the pavement in his desperation to get away.

Dawn was nearing and the Joker sat back in the seat of the car, taking a long drink from the bottle in his hand. He had been gone from the mansion for almost two hours. In that short time, the Joker and his men had robbed and destroyed a huge 24 hour superstore, one all night liquor store and a XXX bookstore, leaving three crumbling piles of beautiful destruction.

Next, he and his men stormed one of the largest brothels in the Narrows. The Joker had to admit it was enormously entertaining to burst into a room just as some poor jerk was about to shoot his wad and leave him naked, broke and scared shitless. Not especially glamorous, but not too bad for a little unplanned late night mayhem. Unfortunately, his efforts had left him feeling almost completely unsatisfied

He had sort of enjoyed lobbing some grenades into the buildings as they finished at each location and prepared to leave. The ensuing explosions had almost been enough to make him smile. But then, he thought about how much Violet would enjoy the fiery destruction. Damn. In the end, all that glorious chaos had failed to lighten his dark mood.

Afterwards, he had gone to one of his many other hideouts and spent a pleasant twenty minutes beating the crap out of several of his largest and most annoying henchmen. Typically this kind of thing made him feel pretty good; not tonight. The sight of blood and the sound of breaking bones just didn’t make his heart sing, like they usually did. So he drank.

He wasn’t much of drinker and he never really did feel the urge to take drugs. They really didn’t seem to have much effect on him. His own personal reality was far more warped and definitely more stimulating than the average chemically induced one. Basically the Joker was high on life.

His men milled around outside of the car nervously. They had been banished from the vehicle while the Joker lounged inside and drank. They were seriously dreading facing an intoxicated version of their already unhinged master and some were considering making a run for it.

The alcohol only served to make him feel angrier and slightly melancholy. He was tired. It had been a long trying evening, and he really needed some sleep. The more he thought it, the more tired he became. He did have a perfectly good bed back at the mansion…and there might be sweet little body in that bed to keep him warm. He chose not to think about the terrible things he had said to Violet or the look on her face when he said it.

Maybe he should go home. There was no reason to avoid the place. It was his house after all. His house, his things, his bed and his… Besides, he had a trunk full of goodies from the XXX bookstore that he was aching to try out sometime soon. Maybe with a little Joker charm (not an apology of course); he could turn the situation to his advantage again. Yesssss, this was sounding better and better.

He opened the car door and shouted to his anxious men, “Boys…We’re going hooome!”

Violet had continued to walk aimlessly, heading deeper into old Gotham, slowly making her way into the Narrows. She was dimly aware of the fact that she was desperately tired, but she ignored her body’s urge to stop and rest. She passed by a small sleazy looking bar that appeared to cater to a rough crowd.

A couple of young men leaned against the brick wall by the open door talking in low tones, completely unaware of her silent approach. The one closest to Violet shook a new cigarette from his pack. As he fumbled for his lighter, Violet stuck a flaming finger in his face and delicately touched it to the cigarette protruding from his mouth. The flaming cigarette fell from his open mouth as he and his companion gaped open-mouthed at this strange creature in a tattered purple coat.

Violet stood silently a moment, staring at nothing in particular, before gently extinguishing her tiny flame and walking away. Two pair of astonished eyes followed her retreating form until it disappeared down the worn cracked sidewalk and for a long time afterward.
