Epilogue
-Three Years Later- Padme opened the door to reveal her most trusted handmaiden and best friend, Sabè. “Did you get it?” “You could have gone to the store yourself. Or had a Jedi test you.” “Obi-Wan could find out then, and I want to keep it a secret. I don’t want to get his hopes up, only to disappoint him. I love him too much for that, Sabè.” Her friend handed her a small sack. Padme opened it to reveal a pregnancy test. “Thank you. Come in,” she let her inside, shutting and locking the door behind her. “I’m nervous.” “You’ll be fine, Padme,” Sabè shook her head. “You’re freaking out over nothing. If you are, he’ll be thrilled. If you’re not, he doesn’t need to know.” “But Sabè I haven’t…Obi-Wan doesn’t know that I’ve had four false alarms in the past year. He just knows that we’ve been trying. I can’t tell him.” “He’d be supportive, Padme. He loves you. You’re the only thing in the universe as far as he’s concerned.” Padme headed into the bathroom to use the test. She didn’t know how many more times she could get her hopes up. She didn’t want to tell Obi-Wan. It would crush him, and he would blame himself. It wasn’t his fault that she couldn’t get pregnant. Padme stepped out, pregnancy test in hand, to see Obi-Wan enter the apartment. “Y-you’re early,” she said. “Our meeting finished sooner than we initially anticipated,” he turned to see her standing there, “what’s wrong?” Sabè made her quiet exit, leaving the couple in peace. “N-nothing, Obi-Wan. Nothing.” “What’s in your hand?” Padme opened her mouth, trying to figure out a lie to tell him. But she saw the concern in his face. She couldn’t lie to him. “A pregnancy test.” “A-are we…” His eyes were wide at the thought; he moved to her quickly, taking her free hand in both of his. Padme smiled sadly, “I don’t know. It says we’re positive but…” “But what?” “I’ve been getting false positives,” she turned away from him. Obi-Wan hugged her before asking, “Did you just say positives? It’s happened before?” “About five times,” she whispered. Obi-Wan kissed her, “Let me check,” he brought his hand to her abdomen, closing his eyes as he used the Force to check on her. A child would have his Force signature, Master Yoda had explained. He’d even told Obi-Wan what it would look like and had him perform the test on a woman pregnant with a Jedi. He understood what to look for. He didn’t find it. He sighed, “I’m sorry Padme.” She collapsed into his arms, crying. He moved to the sofa, holding her in his arms. “I wish you had told me sooner about all this. Padme if we can’t conceive, that’s not your fault.” “It’s not your fault Obi-” “It isn’t yours either,” he interrupted her, leaning over to kiss her gently on the lips. “If we’re meant to have children, we’ll have them. It won’t happen just because we want it to,” he caressed her cheek gently. “I love you,” she whispered, laying her head on his chest. “I love you too,” he kissed the top of her hair, then lay his head on the back of the sofa, closing his eyes. “Lover?” “Hmm?” “Let’s go into the bedroom,” she stood up, pulling him up with her, “now.” “Yes dear,” he growled, leaning in to kiss her. Padme pulled away before he could and ran into the bedroom, Obi-Wan on her heels. He tackled her into the bed, holding her hands over her head, “Now I want that kiss.” She grinned, “Just one?” “Like a potato chip, I can never have just one. I need several,” he kissed her lustfully, a groan escaping his throat as her hand slid into his hair. “More than several,” she whispered before unhooking his belt. Obi-Wan pulled off his lightsaber and placed it on the nightstand before returning to Padme’s body, removing her shirt and using the Force to unhook her bra, pushing it down before moving down to suck gently on her breast. Padme loved him so much. She looked down at him and was happy to see him enjoying himself as he sucked, then nibbled her breasts. Obi-Wan managed to get the rest of their clothing off relatively easy, never stopping his exploration of her body. Padme reached for him, pulling him up to her mouth. They kissed intensely until finally she reached between them, stroking him. She wasn’t surprised to find him already erect. She seemed to have that effect on him. Padme pulled him toward her gently. Obi-Wan flipped them and she grinned, moving down to suck on him. He moaned and threw his head back, his eyes closing in pleasure. She loved it when he was overcome like this; once he was satisfactorily wet she straddled him, gently lowering herself onto him. She groaned in pleasure. Obi-Wan woke to Padme lying in his arms. She was still asleep. He sighed. He knew they’d have kids, one day. Perhaps longer than Padme liked it to take, but he knew it would happen. He could feel it. He turned onto his side, shifting Padme slightly. She woke and sighed happily, “Obi-Wan?” “We’ll have kids, Padme. One day. It’s useless to try and force it.” “I suppose so,” she leaned up and kissed him sweetly, “I have you, at any rate.” “You do,” he smiled. Padme trusted her husband. So she stopped worrying about having a child. In the next several months she focused on her career and her husband, the two things that mattered the most to her (though not in that order). One day, about seven months from the time her fifth test had lied to her, she exited the Senate Chamber. Sabè walked with her down to the landspeeder, “I’m glad you found someone, Sabè. But I don’t wish to do a double date. Obi-Wan and I are private, and we like being that way.” “Padme, I’d like you to meet him.” She shook her head, “I just…Obi-Wan and I have our anniversary coming up and we promised to do something special.” “Not your wedding anniversary.” “The anniversary of the day we met,” Padme smiled. “So you’re not trying to get pregnant anymore?” “We’re not trying right now, no. If it’s going to happen, then it will. Obi-Wan and I are just enjoying being together,” she climbed into the speeder, “enjoy your time with your boyfriend, Sabè. I’ll see you later.” The speeder drove off toward the Jedi Temple. Obi-Wan entered their apartment to see his wife in the kitchen. He grinned and walked over to her, kissing her, “My love, how was your day?” “Pretty good,” she smiled. “Sabè has a boyfriend. She keeps hounding me to meet him.” “So why haven’t you?” “Does it sound bad to say that I don’t want to? I just don’t really care; maybe married life has numbed me to my friends’ relationships.” “And Sabè goes through boyfriends like I go through tunics,” Obi-Wan smirked. “That’s another reason I don’t want to meet him,” she grinned, turning to kiss him. “Are you hungry now or do you want to wait?” “Let’s wait, and then go out to dinner. We’re permitted a romantic dinner every once in awhile,” he lifted her up onto the counter, “do you like that?” “I do,” she smiled, leaning in to kiss him. His hands moved to her hips as the kiss intensified. His hands slid under her shirt, caressing her stomach. Suddenly he pulled back, “Padme?” “What is it? Is something wrong?” He shook his head, “Something feels right,” he shifted his hand and closed his eyes, channeling the Force into his fingertips. Padme lay her hand over his, closing her eyes. She could feel what he was feeling in that moment. There was something inside her. Something…She opened her eyes wide. “Obi-Wan…”
“We’re pregnant,” he smiled at her. Padme grinned and pulled him to her in a passionate kiss. He lifted her up and they moved to the bedroom, falling into the bed. Padme moaned as she unhooked his belt, letting it fall to the ground. They made love, savoring one another happily. After they both climaxed together, they curled up against one another, “Obi-Wan…” “Are you happy?” “Very much so,” she nodded. “Are you?” “I am,” he leaned down and kissed her. “Padme, remember that vision we had?” “Yes.” “It showed three children. That vision will come true, my love; I know it will.” “I love you,” she caressed his cheek, “so much, Obi-Wan. There is no one else for me,” she smiled. “I would hope not after all we had to do to be together,” he smirked. Padme kissed him, “Shutting up now.” “Good,” she rolled on top of him and deepened the kiss.
