Never had a heart worth breaking (11)

Author's note:

Okay, sorry I havn't updated in a while, this chapter took a lot of planning. I don't think I did it justice but we'll see. Again, thanks for reviews, you guys are great =]

What would it take for her memory to come back? Infact, would it ever come back? Lizzie's memory had been gone for nearly two weeks and it seemed she wasn't recovering. She questioned Jack about everything and he did his best to answer, but her memory was definitely not returning. Jack feared it would never come back but tried to remain optimistic. However, things were taking their toll on Jack. He did his best to make Lizzie feel reassured that everything was fine and she seemed to be getting on with life, with the occasional outburst of frustration and annoyance. But Jack...he couldn't bear it; he couldn't be close to Lizzie any longer. She was still the same Lizzie as before, the same Lizzie he had fell in love with but he felt awkward around her. She didn't have a clue who he was, whenever they embraced it was done halfheartedly; like a brother and sister hug should be. He no longer felt they were lovers, he still loved her, he loved her with all his heart but he was sure she didn't feel the same. During the days he and Lizzie would walk round the Pearl, talk about everything and anything, eat dinner together, play cards with the crew. But by night, Lizzie would lay in the bed and Jack would sit in his chair. She'd never said he couldn't sleep next to her but Jack thought she might feel uncomfortable, thus stayed in his chair all night leaning against the maps when tiredness finally overcame him.

One morning when Jack woke up, the first person he saw after stepping out of his cabin was Gibbs. He was walking towards Jack with a smile on his face

"Jack, we be reaching Singapore in a week, give or take"

"Singapore? Oh yeah" Jack had almost forgotten where they were heading with everything that had happened recently.

"Thanks for the update, mate" Gibbs nodded at Jack and walked away, leaving Jack to himself. A week left on the ship, Jack sighed. He'd never liked land but he knew the ship desperately needed supplies and repairs after the storm. They'd probably stay in Singapore for a week or so, visiting the taverns or exploring the foreign land. He had been to Singapore once before, and had enjoyed it thorougly. He also remembered the women there, dressed in bright colored clothes with bright red lipstick, much like the women in Tortuga. He'd never had a Singapore girl and he wasn't planning to this time, but they were practically a force of nature if you said no to them. Jack sighed again and began to make his way to the wheel, he hadn't steered the Pearl in over two weeks and had missed it greatly.

That night Jack and Lizzie were sat in the cabin together like usual, both sat at his table talking. Jack had explained that the Pearl was heading to Singapore and would be there within the week. Lizzie had gotten all excited and questioned Jack on every aspect he had seen of Singapore, so Jack explained in as much detail as he could the beautiful sights of Singapore.

"It has the more beautiful views Lizzie, wait till you see them. They're amazing!" He said grandly, waving his arms out in excitement. He couldn't wait to show Lizzie around the place, he knew she would love it just as much as he did. Lizzie's eyes sparkled and she smiled widely at the thought of Singapore. She felt very comfortable around Jack, she had known him for over two weeks and he had been like a gentleman in every way. He had kept her company and happy, allowed her to use his bed, he'd walked round the decks with him and made her smile when she was down. She knew some of the crew disliked her

"Bad luck having a woman aboard" They would mutter behind her back

"Got the Captain acting all weak now," Another would agree. She didn't know the crewmen and at the time it had upset her. What have I done to them? She was just about to walk away when one of the other men aboard had told the others to leave her alone. She smiled at him and thanked him

"My pleasure Miss. By the way, Im Dave." She smiled warmly at him and he'd accompanied her back to the cabin she was sharing with Jack, before bowing at her and heading back below decks.
She stared at Jack seriously, and he stared back at her with a smile on his face. Slowly, he leaned forward and kissed her on the lips, not a long kiss but a sweet and soft one. He pulled back lightly, making sure she wasn't angry and just found her staring at him, with a smile on her face. She had liked the kiss, but she didn't remember their last one nor their first, she didn't know him. Jack didn't smile back, he was hurting too much. She really isn't getting her memory back, is she? He felt frustration build up inside him and he tried to keep control over it but it was proving hard. Lizzie sensed this and stared at him, confused

"Jack, whats wrong?"

"You never loved me, did you?" Jack said angrily, his voice rising slightly. Lizzie was looking shocked and slightly hurt. What the hell was he talking about? Never loved him? She knew she had known Jack before the accident, but they weren't still lovers... were they? She knew they had something before...but now? Did he still want her, even though she knew nothing about him?Lizzie didn't know what to say, except stare at the table, Jack seemed to have made up his own mind about her feelings and stomped out the cabin. I'll leave him for a moment, give him time to cool down she thought calmly to herself, even though tears were welling up in her eyes.

Jack reached the railing and took some deep breaths. He hadn't meant to lose his temper, but his emotions got the better of him. He knew it was a lost cause; Lizzie would never get her memory back. He tried to clear his mind by taking more deep breaths. He heard somebody clear their throat behind him. Uh, oh....

"Jack...." Here it comes, he thought. He turned round to face her but couldn't look her in the eye.

"I'm sorry" she uttered.

"What?" Jack stared at her blankly, meeting her eyes. What is she apologizing for? It was me who lost me temper?

"I'm sorry...for everything..." She sounded terribly upset and Jack felt his heart break in half. He grabbed her hand gently and pulled her towards him.

"None of this is your fault luv. It's all my fault, everything. I'm sorry luv!" Jack's voice was so full of emotion that Lizzie just stared at him and felt tears slipping from her own eyes. He was being so sincere and she knew his emotions were getting the better of him but he seemed to have something to say

"The accident...that was my fault luv..." She looked confused and slightly shocked but listened as Jack recounted the tale to her, in as much detail as he could remember. When he finished he looked at Lizzie, expecting her to push him away, or overboard. Instead, she hugged him close and he breathed in the deep, sweet smell that belonged to her, when she spoke however she sounded close to tears just like him. Peas in a pod

"Jack, it's not your fault. I left the cabin, you didn't ask me to come to you. It's my own stupid fault and I have to pay the price for my stubborness." Jack didn't know what to say; he just held her close in silence

"I just wish....I just wish it was like before...." Jack spoke, she was crying now, he felt her tears wet his shirt.

"I'm sorry Jack"

"It's not your fault luv, what's done is done..." He said quietly, his heart silently breaking, for him, for them. He finally had accepted that her memory wasn't coming back. He didn't have to like it, but he finally accepted it. She did it, why couldn't he? He didn't know how long they stood there together, ridding themselves of their own tears. Jack had never felt so emotional but he didn't care right now. She may not remember anything, she may never get her memory back. She may not even be the same Lizzie nor feel the same as me but I love her and things are going to get better, he vowed to himself.

Author's note:
