Chapter 11 – Because He’s Captain Jack Sparrow

Elizabeth strolled up to the helm, watching Jack curiously as he steered the Pearl onto a different tangent at Tia’s bidding. “You miss her.” The girl stated, almost pitifully, as she watched the pirate. His eyes trailed up to meet hers slowly.

“If I do?” He queried, curious as to why the girl was stating the obvious. How could anyone not miss Oria, even if they didn’t like her she was too much of a character not to miss.

“It’s just interesting. I never had you as a one woman man, that’s all.” Elizabeth proclaimed and leaned against the banister still watching him. “And now you are willing to brave all to go and rescue what most people wouldn’t define as human.” Jack shifted uncomfortably and altered his grasp on the wheel. Deciding to ignore the statement meant to entice him into revealing the exact degree of what he felt for Oria.

“I never had you as a lust ridden maid.” Jack teased, Elizabeth looked mildly affronted but not as much as he had presumed she would be. He smiled faintly, “I had you as the wed and bed kind of woman. Tied down to one man, living the supposed ideal life. Plenty of children, plenty of money and aristocratic stuff, supposedly just tolerant of the man who takes you every night with or without your consent.” Jack mocked, Elizabeth stayed silent not sure how to proceed after the speech knowing it was a jibe back at her for the comment she had just made.

“I would only marry for love.” She announced haughtily, her upbringing kicking in as she floundered in this unknown arena. Jack nodded slightly, that same grin on his lips as he watched her think through the conversation.

“Why did you come?” Jack queried leaning on the wheel lazily to regard her more openly. Elizabeth glanced up at him in surprise, her lips partially parted oh so temptingly in shock.

“I… I came to be with Will.” She announced doubtfully, even Jack could hear the doubt that rippled through her soft voice.

“Liar.” Jack whispered knowingly causing her to blush furiously and turn away.

“Lord Beckett! Lord Beckett!” The marine streaked up the steps to the Lord’s room, stumbling slightly in his haste. He barged through the wood door, not caring that it was improper, spurred on by the fear to abandon all ritual. Cutler Beckett was stood at the window, his fingers running over his chin thoughtfully as his gaze raked over the dock and its new addition that had appeared in the darkness of the deepest depths of night. A faint smile on his face as he watched the fear spread in the crowds below as their eyes read the nameplate, as the elderly began to retell the old tales.

“My Lord.” The marine blurted between gasps for breath. Slowly Beckett turned to face him, amused at the man’s panicked expression and panting.

“I can see perfectly well Lieutenant. Spread the word that this is to our advantage. Oh, and get word to the joiners, shipbuilders… let’s make it every single craftsman in the city. No, import the best of every profession to get that ship into the absolute top condition, everything modern and elegant, and everything pristine. There’s no cost too great where this is concerned.” Beckett whispered his eyes raking over the ruined wreck that bobbed absently in his port; the marine nodded slowly and left the room.

:/

“Jack?” The pirate turned surprised at the soft voice appearing in his cabin of all places. He waved Elizabeth in, she stepped in warily. “You asked me why I came.”

Jack nodded, closing the lid to Oria’s chest sharply and standing smoothly. He quickly sank into the chair behind his desk and watched as Elizabeth grew bolder. Stepping forwards and resting her fingertips on the desk front. “And you’ve come to answer me, I presume.” Jack whispered his fingertips pressing together slowly as his eyes trailed over her.

“I came because I wanted to be with Will.” Elizabeth assured, Jack chuckled at her explanation.

“Now, we know that’s not entirely true… don’t we.” He teased, Elizabeth looked away and sighed.

“Fine. I wanted one last adventure before I settled down to a life of plenty of children and wealth as you so kindly put it.” She snapped, folding her arms over her chest tightly. Jack merely smiled and leaned forwards.

“Liar.” He tempted with that same frustratingly knowing smile. Elizabeth glared at him furiously.

“You would keep on calling me a liar no matter what I said wouldn’t you.” She accused in annoyance, sending him a condescending glare.

“That’s only because you are lying.” Jack pointed out softly, that same annoying grin on his face as he observed her. She leaned against the desk.

“Fine, I wanted to be on the ocean again. I wanted another adventure with the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow. One last adventure…”

“Then you can finally rest in peace. Knowing that you didn’t miss anything that you may have missed had you gone off with Will,” Jack murmured enthusiastically. “You know, I really don’t care if you’re married or not. Makes no qualms with me, love.” He assured, swigging from a rum bottle that seemed to miraculously appear about the man no matter where he was.

Elizabeth shook her head in disgust, “You’re despicable! I would never sleep with you!”

“Who ever said anything about sleeping together? I was talking about adventures. However, my policy is the same for that activity as well, just so you know seeing as it is so important to you.” Jack smiled mischievously as Elizabeth quickly left the room as fast as she could.

“Oria.” The warning tone rippled through the air, brushing against her back as she paused. Slowly she turned to regard Davy Jones and waited for him to continue. “I am your only salvation. I am the only one who can get you back to the surface. You should not discredit me so easily in that respect.”

“He will come for me. He’s smarter than you think.” Oria assured him and began to stride along the coastline once more.

“Oria.” Davy Jones called out once more. She stumbled to a stop and turned on a heel striding back towards him.

“Give him two weeks; return in two weeks. If I am still here then… then and only then will I submit to your deal.” Oria announced in a finalizing tone.

“What makes you so sure that he will come for you? Not only come for you but succeed in rescuing you?” Davy Jones mocked.

“Because he’s Captain Jack Sparrow.”

:/

“JACK!!!” Will shouted, swiftly followed by Elizabeth as they were quickly joined by the rest of the crew who looked equally afraid at the appearance of the gap in the ocean. Jack strode on deck, noticing absently that there were no stars in the sky and was swiftly drawn to where the rest of crew were stood staring at the prow.

“What? This had better been good. I was just… sleeping…” Jack stared dumbly at the whirlpool sucking them insistently. “Haul on the braces, lower the anchors. Do anything, just stop this ship!” He shouted urgently, panic riddling the deck and crew rapidly as the whirlpool gurgled and slurped more insistently.

“Belay dat. We ride it in. Welcome to da entrance to Davy Jones locker.” Tia announced proudly as the Black Pearl began to tip over the edge and plummet down into the black oblivion.
