Decisions
Outside Mini supports herself on the garage wall. She's breathing in deeply trying to make her food stay put "“ she's nauseous and sweating. She can hear the back door shut far away but doesn't bother to look, she's concentrating too hard in not barfing.
"You alright?" Vince asks, staying a safe distance from her; not because she's about to puke but he doesn't want to give her that advantage on him. Mini looks up, her face pale and her forehead shinny from the sweat.
"I just need some air." She turns and sits on the picnic table. "The smell of the sauce made me sick" she states. Vince huffs.
"Better not tell Mia that, she might take it personal" he grins at her. Mini can tell he misses her "“ not as much as she misses him though.
"Hey I wanted to talk to you about Mia's wedding" Mini quickly spats out before he decides to go back inside. Much to her liking he takes a seat across from her.
"Hey I know what you're wondering and there's no way I'm ruining Mia's wedding because of what happened. Your not bailing are you?" he asks in a concerned voice.
"No. Actually I just wanted to make sure with you." Her eyes drop, avoiding his.
"What are you going to do?" he drops his head "“ his eyes try to find hers.
"I'm glad you asked because I wanted to tell you alone. I made an appointment for this Saturday. I'm not asking you for anything, I'm just letting you know" her body tenses and her nostrils flare.
"Appointment? What does that mean? To see a doctor?" his innocence surprises Mini and she struggles with the next words.
"No. To have an abortion" Vince isn't prepared for this. The words stab at his heart more than he anticipated - his own reaction to her words is reflected in her expression.
"So that's it? You get to have the final say?" he becomes angrier. Mini stands up in instinctive defense mode.
"It's better this way Vince. This way no one gets hurt." "“ "˜I'm not going to cry' she tells herself, but her hormones are betraying her.
"Yeah. Maybe you're right. Do what you gotta do" he stands glaring at her with such animosity she cannot stand looking at him back. Vince walks back in the house and sees everyone laughing and having a good time "“ he's not about to ruin it.
"Hey V, check out the mystery date" Leon says pointing at Oscar. Vince manages a smile and shakes Oscar's hand. "Welcome to the family" he says and Oscar grins. Vince goes to the kitchen where Mia is serving some more salad.
"Mia, I'm sorry I got to go." His eyes apologize for him.
"You OK V?" she asks concerned. He nods and kisses her cheek walking out the back door, avoiding the others. Walking past Mini he can see she's crying but isn't about to stop. He jumps in his car and is on his way "“ he needs something else to take his anger out on, something that's going to make his adrenaline take over any stress that is built inside him. The only other thing he's good at besides fighting... racing.
