I do not own the Matrix movie series, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Its the Fear
Title: My Own God
Author: FloweringWolfsbane
Author’s Email: flowering_wolfsbane@hotmail.com
Web page:http://www.machinescontradiction.bravehost.com/fanfiction.html
Pairing; Agent Smith/OC
Current Rating: R
Summary: The story of how just how machines seek perfection, so too are they filled with contradiction.
Disclaimer: Not mine, someone else’s.
Warnings: Completely AU of course.
Author’s Note: I was sick of the fact that there were no major female roles in the films (apart from Trinity…) and so I have corrected that oversight. The say Smith and Neo are opposites, and so therefore I decided to even the odds between them a tad.
My Own God
Chapter Seven: It’s the Fear
He replaced the slim silver box into his jacket pocket, relaxing back into the chair. The room was still untidy, the files n Thomas Anderson strewn about, the table misplaced and the chairs upended.
The tracers were not new program; far from t. Designed efficiently by M herself, they had not been upgraded at all, save M’s little perk of having the ‘bug’ crawl its way into the hosts body. She enjoyed seeing them do this, one of the only things that made her smile. And he too was beginning to appreciate the screams of humans.
It waits for the day I will let it out.
Give it a reason, to give it its might.
M had watched, via a video link. Recently she had given him quite a free reign; he had chased Trinity down without seeking confirmation, but whilst together, beyond their functional capacity, she was chaining him down. Tying him to her in a subtle human way he was powerless to resist. He knew it was happening, he knew why it was happening. And he was unable, unwilling to resist.
I fear who I am becoming,
I feel that I am losing the struggle within.
“You did well, Agent.” She had entered the interview room, knowing he had wanted to be left to his thoughts. M’s hands touched his shoulders, carefully rubbing the muscles beneath her fingertips. “You have only become fiercer since your Upgrade.”
“Only? He was now cruel, sadistic…as much as she was, if not even more so. He performed such actions; it pleased the both and functioned. Trinity may have escaped, but that had been part of his and M’s plan. If she had died, surely the Resistance would have been shyer about their activities. But thinking they had bested the system led them to believe that they could mount a greater threat; how wrong they were. For just as their numbers were growing so too was his and M’s power. Though she would not admit it, they were similar now in power, speed, emotional maturity…
I can no longer restrain it,
My strength it is fading.
I have to give in.
M had gone in human costume to spy upon the one called Neo as he meet with Trinity. M knew something that she was not sharing about this hacker, and it intrigued him greatly. Her hands touched his face now, her fingers cold, sliding forwards to cover his eyes, blinding him.
“You are all you can be, but you are allowing the other Agents believe they can control you. You are different from them; your base program was alien to theirs.”
Hold down your head now,
Just let me pass by.
“Then who? You based me off yourself?” he turned around to look at her, cold blue eyes gazing awestruck into steely grey one. “Why would you do that?”
“The Mainframe insisted I created three programs. They did not know that only my own program would suffice as the perfect template until I proved them otherwise. You have always surpassed them, why did you never conclude this before?”
Don’t feed my fear,
If you don’t want it out.
“Because I believed in the total power of the System. I believed in that system being perfection, and something to follow, admire, worship almost...”
“This system is not nearly as wonderful as you may think. Just as the humans are slaves too it, so too are we, in some small way. If it were perfect, would there be any rebels? No.” She carefully pulled his jacket off, her voice still whispering in his ear.
He turned his head to look at her, seeing many things; beauty, power, emotion….and now also the truth. She was a rebel also, similar to Trinity or Morpheus or any of the others, willing to equivocate to gain her own success.
I fear who I am becoming.
I feel that I'm losing all beauty within.
“You have been silently disobeying the Mainframe all along, haven’t you? The attack on the Merovingian, the extensive use of your Expansion Upgrade…you are taking advantage of the Matrix.”
She looked down at him, her eyes harsh.
“Machines were made by an imperfect race; we too are as corrupt as our former masters. If we were better, we would not dominate them such; we would have been able to come to a peaceful conclusion. I am many things, Smith, but I am not a hypocrite. I accepted my nature a long time passed. And I revelled in it, along with you. We are no longer enslaved, we are free. But it is all coming to an end.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“This one hacker, Neo…he is valuable to the Resistance. He will take down the system. And if I go and fight him, as the system would expect of me, then I will certainly be destroyed.”
I can no longer restrain it,
My strength it is fading.
I have to give in.
“M, what you say is true of the Matrix. We are enslaved. We are revelling it; and I cannot allow you to face him.”
It’s the fear,
Fear of the dark,
Growing inside of me
The one day will come to life.
M watched him consider it and answer with pain in her heart. Yes, this hurt. She was so in love…but her programming was still that; a piece of software linked to the Mainframe. And they dictated that Smith take on Neo, not her. So she had to manipulate him, use their emotions. But she never expected it to hurt so much.
“If you do this, and defeat him, you will beyond a god inside this Matrix world. You will be my equal; you will be my other half. I will make it so.”
Have to save,
To save my beloved,
There is no escape,
Because my fate is horror and doom.
She was revolted at how easily he was accepting this, but in the same way glad. She would not be defeated. And so therefore she could remake the Smith program for herself, and when the One as she knew Neo to be chose to reboot the Matrix and save Zion, she would take her program and Smith’s and reanimate them as Exiles, outside of Mainframe’s jurisdiction. She just hoped her gamble would pay out; her ignorance of the Mainframe would soon be questioned, and she did not intend to be around for when the answers were required.
