Drunken Problems

Chapter 14: Drunken problems

Abby’s head made contact with the floor for what seemed like the hundredth time that night. She had never actually been on a ship before and this storm was not helping her in any way. She rubbed the back of her head gently as she stood from the floor and made her way back to the bed. Everything around her seemed to be spinning. Her shoulder wound had reopened and was bleeding badly. She grabbed a cloth from the floor, not caring if it was dirty or not, and pressed it to her shoulder. When she was certain the bleeding had slowed down some what, she pulled the cloth away and threw it back onto the floor. Her old bandages wouldn’t be good enough anymore, she needed to find clean ones.

She looked around the cabin for anything that will work as a wrap. But since she never did have any sort of luck, she couldn’t see anything that would work. She let out a groan of frustration and let her body fall back onto the bed. Why in the bloody hell were they even sailing still? From what she could see out of the window, this storm was terrible.

In an instant she was, once again, sprawled out on the floor. Except this time she didn’t move, she didn’t even try to stand back up. She just laid there, her head pounding something terrible. She let her eyes close lightly, praying sleep would just take her away for the moment. But once again, she has no form of good luck what’s so ever, just as she was about to drift of the cabin door flew open and a very wet man came stumbling in. She looked up to him when she felt the cold drips of water on her body.

“I believe the bed would be much more comfortable.” Jack said with a smirk. Abby rolled her eyes and stood up next to him.

“I suppose it would, but I keep getting thrown out of it so I gave up.” She said with her anger very evident.

“Why is that uncovered?” Jack asked as soon as he noticed the blood seeping through her shirt. Abby looked down at it and put one of her hands on it to slow the bleeding once again.

“Sorry, I couldn’t find anything to use as a bandage.” Abby replied quietly. Jack didn’t say anything, just walked over to his desk and rummaged through a couple drawers until he finally found some clean cloth. Abby quietly walked over to the bed and sat down, Jack following shortly after, sitting down next to her. He finished wrapping her shoulder quickly and moved off the bed to his rum cupboard. It was right at that moment that Abby got the feeling something was wrong. Yet she had no idea what it was. Jack pulled out a bottle of rum, not bothering to offer her any. He walked to his desk and sat down on his chair. Abby’s eyes did not once leave his form.

This is just the beginning.

Abby’s head immediately dropped, her eyes becoming glued to the floorboards.

“Please, just go away.” She whispered. She didn’t care if Jack heard her or not. She just wanted the voice to leave her alone. She waited a few more moments before looking up again, and sure enough Jack was staring at her with his brows furrowed.

“You do know this is my cabin don’t you?” Jack asked, obviously angry with what she said. Abby could feel herself pale instantly, she didn’t expect him to react this way. Why was he so angry with her?

“I wasn’t talking to you.” She replied. Jack just snorted at her. Her eyebrows shot up right when she heard the sound. Did he actually forget about her problem already? “You…don’t… believe me?” She asked hesitantly. She watched his face intently, looking for any sign that he was just joking around with her. But once again, she has no form of any type of luck.

“Darlin’, it’s been a long bloody night, I’ll be able to understand this conversation in the mornin’.” Jack said and took a long drink of the rum. Abby watched him put the bottle down and make his way over to the bed. He waved his hand at her, silently telling her to move over to her side, which she did quickly. She may not totally understand why he was in such a mood, but she could tell he was extremely tired. It seemed like only mere seconds before she could hear quiet snores coming from him. She laid her head on her pillow and looked at him. She could no longer deny that she thought he was attractive. Because he certainly was, especially for a pirate. A pirate? She doesn’t even know what those are anymore. Everything that Misty had told her about them are completely the opposite of the man lying next to her. Besides the fact that he smells, sleeps around with women, and steals… ok well maybe he is like most of the stories she had heard, but he was still drastically different from them. Jack had never put her in danger yet, he hadn’t forced himself upon her, and hasn’t just left her somewhere. She knew he never intended for her to be with him now, but given the circumstances he didn’t really have a choice, which once again proves he is not like any other pirate she had heard about.

She let out a heavy sigh and let her body relax a little more. She was extremely surprised at how fast she had come to trust Jack. She never had trusted any man in her life. Something deep in her gut told her that there were a few of them who didn’t want her here. She had no idea why. She hadn’t done anything to anyone before in her life. But then there was the fact that her mother and just dumped her off at a random house one night. Maybe she had gotten into some sort of trouble and that’s why Abby didn’t trust anyone. But Misty said that she was not even a year old when that happened. She let out another sigh and closed her eyes, letting darkness clear her thoughts for a while.

Sunlight. That was the first thing that crossed Abby’s mind the next morning, and she had never been happier for it to wake her up. She was definitely sick of the darkness from the storm.

She rolled onto her back and looked around the cabin. She would be lying if she said she expected Jack to be in there, but surprise surprise… he actually was. He was leaning over his desk, staring intently at was she assumed was a map.

“Good morning.” She said quietly, she wasn’t exactly looking for a conversation to start, she just wanted to know if he was still in a bad mood. Jack looked up from the map and gave her a smile. Guess he’s not.

“Mornin’.” He replied then looked back down to the map. Abby slowly slid out of bed and walked over to him. She looked at his face, he didn’t even look like he was looking at the map. She couldn’t help but smirk when she saw him give her a really quick side glance and …swallow? Is Captain Jack Sparrow nervous? And around a woman no less.

“You alright?” She asked and placed a hand on his shoulder. One of his hands flinched, as if it was going to remove her hand, but then rested again on the desk.

“Just…fine.” He replies. Abby removes her hand and takes a step back.

“No your not.” She said. Jack turns his head to look at her, his mouth opens and closes many times before he finally speaks.

“I’m sure nothing is wrong luv.” He said and gives her a smirk as if it would help prove his point.

“I’m not blind Jack. Do you honestly think I don’t notice how you are acting around me?” Abby asked, surprising Jack and herself with how harsh her tone is.

“Please Ab, not now. This is not a good time.” Jack replied. Abby could tell that he was barely managing to keep his anger in check. But what was he angry about?

“Why? What’s going on?” Abby asked in a softer voice. Jack stood up straight and faced her.

“Nothing that you should worry yourself over.” He replied and gave her another smile. He grabbed a bottle of rum off his desk and walked over to his bed, practically throwing himself onto it.

“I don’t mean for this to sound rude, but why are you still in here?” Abby asked after a moment. Jack let out a deep chuckle and took a swig of his rum.

“So much for not soundin’ rude deary. But we are still anchored so I don’t really have anything to do at the moment and my crew is still sleepin’.” He explained and took another drink from the bottle.

“Oh,” was all Abby said in reply. She walked over to one of the chairs sitting around Jack’s desk and sat down. “So when are we going to set sail again?” Abby asked, looking up from the floor and over to Jack, who seemed to be very interested with his wrist for some reason.

“I dunno.” He replied absent mindedly. Abby watched his hand with amusement. He would flick his wrist back and forth a couple times and then stare at it, as if he was trying to figure out how it was put together.

“Captain, are you already drunk?” Abby asked with a smile on her face. Jack’s hand dropped instantly and he looked over at her.

“Course not.” He replied then took another swig of his rum, only to find that he had already drained it a couple swigs before. He held it upside down and gave it a good shake before tossing it across the room. It shattered into pieces when it hit the wall, and Jack in the three second span from when it left his hand and hit the wall, had already forgotten he had even thrown it and jumped from the bed when it smashed.

“Bloody hell woman, don’t do that!” He shouted at Abby. She tried to stop herself from laughing but couldn’t, and almost fell off the chair in the process.

“Oh my goodness.” She said when she finally got her laughter under some sort of control. “How can you be drunk at this hour?”

“It’s not really all that hard luv, I just drank some rum.” He said and laid back down on the bed.

“You have got to be kidding.” She mumbled to herself, making sure Jack would NOT hear this.

“You know what dear, I have figured out your problem.” Jack stated suddenly. Abby looked over to him expecting to see him staring her down, but because he is very drunk at the moment he doesn’t do what he normally does.

“And what would that be?” She asked.

“You are quite an insane woman.” Jack replied. Abby let out a snort and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

“You’ve noticed then huh?” She asked dryly.

“Course, anyone who doesn’t drink rum is quite insane.” He said right before she could hear quiet snores coming from him.

Doesn’t even remember your ‘problems’

Abby let out a groan of frustration when she heard the voice.

“He’s bloody drunk and is no doubt exhausted from the storm last night.” She replied and stood from the chair.

Won’t be long now until he leaves you at a port.

“He isn’t going to do that!” She shouted, not worried that Jack is going to hear her, seeing that he is passed out and all.

It wont be long
