Ch15
Chapter Fifteen: Mission Impossible?
Please excuse the drab tone of this chapter. I was listening to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepp, while writing. It’s a pretty crappy chapter, really…
“I can’t believe we’re doing this.”
“Makes two of us.” Sands muttered to Tyler as they moved stealthily towards Lowe’s Estate between the trees and out of view.
“What happens if we don’t complete the assignment?”
“Haven’t got a clue. Look, there’s the first guard.” Sands motioned towards a man wearing black, armed with a gun, walking around, just visible through the trees. Tyler went first, moving left and slowly gaining on the guard. Sands went right.
A rustling made by Tyler caused the guard to turn suddenly, holding his gun out in the direction of the sound. The guard frowned at the expanse of trees, moving silently in the wind, not noticing Sands approaching him quickly and quietly from behind. A twig snapped loudly under Sands’ foot and the guard spun around just in time to be knocked unconscious.
The pair dragged the guard’s body over to a bush and pocketed his gun before moving him out of view.

Liljana woke up suddenly, coughing painfully in the dark. When the burning in her chest faded slightly, she reached over to the bowl on the nightstand and spat out a mouthful of phlegm. After a few seconds she frowned, her mouth tinged with a metallic taste. She flicked the light switch above her bed and let her eyes adjust to the bright light before they widened in panic. She had coughed up a lot of blood and there was some spattered on her sheets. Liljana grabbed the panic button and pressed it twice before dropping it onto the bed, her hands shaking.

Sands and Tyler took out six more guards before reaching the main gates to the complex, both dressed in two of the guards’ uniforms. They radioed for Edwards and Brown to approach the estate for back up, before moving stealthily through the estate, past the warehouse and over to Lowe’s home.
Shadowed by a large row of bushes, Sands followed as Tyler padded around the side of the house, stopping at the first window and cautiously looking inside.
A grand piano and chandelier were the room’s centre pieces. Lush white carpet covered the floor and rich cream leather sofas exuded wealth and status.
Sands couldn’t help the sneer that flashed across his face at Lowe’s infinite bad taste. He looked to Tyler to find him smirking, too.
The voice in their earpieces told them that Lowe was currently situated in his office, the room at the back of the building with large patio doors. Nice and easy to break into. Unless the security guards had caught them on their infra red security cameras already. Sands doubted that, though because he knew that he wouldn’t still be alive if someone had spotted them. They had been careful to avoid them in the first place.
Sands and Tyler edged their way around the building until they reached the patio doors. They could hear Lowe talking on the phone gruffly through the thin glass and gripped their weapons tighter as they prepared to break in and arrest him.
Sands’ heart raced as he met Tyler’s eyes and they counted to three, wordlessly.

“It’s difficult to tell. It’s become slightly worse. We will keep you in for another night before sending you home if it doesn’t get any worse. However, when it does clear up, you will still notice the effects for possibly up to two years.”
“What sort of effects?” Lil asked groggily.
“Common colds will last longer, you may still be coughing up phlegm. But it will eventually clear up.”
“Good.”
The doctor smiled lightly before going, leaving Liljana with the company of the TV. A news report flashed on the screen, “A young man has been reported missing,” Liljana’s head immediately turned to the screen, “22 year old Paul Tyler from Oakwoo-” She turned the television off, frustrated, her teeth unconsciously gnawing at her bottom lip.

Sands and Tyler cringed as twelve armed guards burst through the doors, pointing guns at their heads. It was quite a picture. Lowe relaxed in his arm chair, Sands’ and Tyler’s guns aimed at his head, twelve guards aiming their weapons at the pair.
Sands had to admit, he was panicking slightly, and from the sweat dripping off of Tyler’s forehead, so was he.
There was a deafening silence before the sound of sirens filled everyone’s ears. Sands could have almost sighed in relief but instead chose to grin at Lowe. “Times up.”
Lowe’s eyes widened almost imperceptibly when he heard the sirens, glancing at the guards. Sands caught the look, however, “They shoot? So do we.”
Brown and Edwards suddenly appeared in the patio doors, their guns also aimed at Lowe, who shifted somewhat uncomfortably in his seat.

“Well done Agents. I am highly impressed with how you handled this operation. As a result, I am asking each of you to stay on and train to become a fully fledged C.I.A Special Operations Agent. You will be returned home and given seven days to decide.”

Liljana smiled when Sands’ arm tightened around her waist as they swayed gently to the music. They both jumped as the buzzer went off in the kitchen. “I guess that means the food is ready?”
Liljana nodded, somewhat disappointed that she had to leave his embrace.
Sands followed her into the kitchen where she tried to switch off the pasta and Bolognese sauce with Sands’ lips attached to her neck, smothering her skin with kisses and nibbles. She was trying her hardest to concentrate but almost dropped the plates when his tongue snaked into her ear and his fingers slid inside the front of her jeans.
“Sa-mmm…” Liljana put the plates down roughly on the table just in time for Sands to press her against the worktop, leaning over, making her press the top half of her body against the cool surface, his arousal pressing into her butt.
Liljana moaned loudly as she came to, her eyes opening then blinking in confusion, the faint scent of his aftershave lingering in her senses.
Timing impeccable as always, the nurse entered the room and checked the clip board at the end of the bed. “Janie on reception tells me you had a visitor.”
“Uh, no.”
“She said he was the best looking hunk of a man she’d seen in a long time…I wish I had someone like that to come and visit me when I’m ill!” She giggled lightly, looking to Liljana for a response.
“W-what did he look like?”
“I’m not sure. She said he was in here for ages! Do you want me to ask?”
A tiny spark of hope flickered inside her, “Yes, thank you.”
