Chapter 14 – Guilty Dealings

Oria stepped away from the bars as Jones approached his tentacles bristling, “And where have you been hmm?” Oria looked away from him and down at the water logged floor.

“I went to torment Sparrow. I was only doing what you desire, trying to curry favour and make you realise that I am not going to betray you.” Jones nodded sarcastically.

“Of course you were, take her to the deck and get the cat ‘o’ nine tails out… I’ll deal the lashes.” Oria glanced up in surprise, he hadn’t dared to raise a finger to her never mind strike her with a whip. Bootstrap looked equally appalled as Jones turned away to retreat back up the stairs.

“You can’t do that!” Jones paused and glared at him over his shoulder.

“I believe you’ll find Mr Turner that ‘I’ am Captain of this ship and ‘I’ will decide who gets what punishment.” Oria looked pointedly at Bootstrap and he was sure she must have lost her mind if she was suggesting what he thought she was suggesting. He shook his head at her, sure it would only get them into more trouble, Jones took it as Bootstrap shaking his head in denial of the fact that Jones was Captain. “Then you can go to the locker Mr Turner!”

Bootstrap’s eyes widened visibly as he felt his soul leave his body and it slumped lifelessly to the planks. Oria stared dumbly at the frame and glanced back up at Jones who was still bristling as his eyes snapped to hers, “Up deck now.” Maccus chuckled as he unlocked the cell door and reached in to drag her out.

Jack woke late and glared around the cabin groggily, the sun light burning his eyes cruelly for sleeping so long. Easing himself out of the bed he yelped as his foot scratched against something sharp. He glared down at the offending… dagger? Waking up more he bent over double to look at the sharp dagger standing upright in his cabin’s floorboards pinning a note to them. Rotating his head he read the words out loud, “Don’t do anything stupid.”

He recognised the script instantly as Oria’s and tore it from underneath the dagger to study it more intently as if it would yield some sort of clue. After ten minutes of hopeful staring he determined that it was nothing more than an old piece of parchment that really was just an old piece of parchment with a few words scrawled on it.

Jack tossed it aside lazily and tugged his boots on before pausing once more, that wasn’t just a piece of old parchment with a few words scribbled on it. That was an old piece of parchment with Oria’s scribbled few words on it. He stumbled to his knees in his hurry to pick the scrap back up again, did that mean she had been here, or did it mean someone had dropped it off? Was it a warning? A curse? A sign? He re-arranged the letters frantically, searching for anything but once again it was just an old piece of parchment with a few words scribbled on it, though now slightly more significant with the fact that Oria had actually written the few words.

With a heavy sigh he once again began the task of dressing and exiting the cabin to once again follow the compass.

Maccus pushed her roughly towards the mast with a broad entirely gleeful laugh, most of the crew chuckling and grinning with delight at the precious pet being knocked from her pedestal. Rough hands dragged the jacket from her and attempted to tear the shirt, she brushed them away furiously and was about to tear it herself when she gave a shout of pain and clutched her right arm.

Jones was there instantly tearing her sleeve away and staring at the tattoo that he had grafted onto her skin when he took her mortality. She glared at him, they both knew the meaning of the sudden appearance of the pentagon behind the usual D and J with their sea serpent and rose, “Get us to the Isle de Cruces. I need to see my heart! I NEED TO SEE IT!” The crew leapt into action and he studied Oria intently, “It seems it’s time for you to redeem and prove yourself. Get me that heart or face the consequences.” He turned and stalked away from her.

“What consequences? What could you possibly take me from me that you don’t already have?” She hissed still holding her arm tenderly but glaring as ferociously as she dared at Jones. He paused and glanced back at her over his shoulder.

“A deal then?” Oria looked at him curiously hiding her suspicion; she knew what Davy Jones ‘deals’ involved.

“What?” Jones turned and looked at her critically.

“You return my heart to me and I will return Sara to you.” Oria paused and studied him curiously.

“You don’t have her soul.” He chuckled and stepped back up to Oria, she didn’t step back but held her ground tilting her head to meet his eyes.

“Don’t I? Are you willing to take that chance? Correct a wrong that you so badly made, I might even give Mr Sparrow another three days to try and get his ninety-nine souls if you do what I ask of you.” Oria looked away uncomfortably, black-mailer, she hated him so much it was a pain worse than any she had felt before.

“Deal.”
