Chapter 15

Chapter 15

The vehicles pulled along side them and the serum-induced army began firing at them but the clear shields on the windows were too thick for the bullets to penetrate. Josh rammed one of the vehicles away and it flipped over. Lance looked at him.

“Alec is older and heavier what he lacks in speed he makes up in power.” The cannon on the other vehicle aimed at them.

“Alec, can I get a little assistance.” Alec’s guns cut down a huge tree in that vehicle’s path and fell onto it flattening it. Alec roared on with more closing in on him. Bullets rattled off his shields. Alec began to return gunfire at the tires causing two vehicles to crash into each other.

“Bastards “Lance yelled at the explosion.

Kayco hissed. False looked at Lance and clicked.

“Hey they are saying that there is a 50 foot drop and a 30 foot wide cavern ahead, we better turn.”

Josh smiled. “I know that Lance. Just do what I tell you and I won’t hurt you later.”

The four vehicles behind them began gaining on them. Josh shifted gears and began to accelerate as the canyon neared.

“Shit Josh this is NOT a good idea.”

Josh looked at him. “All my ideas are good Lance. Now when I tell you hit the red button.”

Brian sat forward. “You always told us never to touch the red button.”

Josh smiled. “No I told you two idiots to never touch the red button.” Lance frowned.

Rito clicked. “He said you need more speed.”

Josh smiled and floored the petal and Alec began to pull away from those chasing them.
Lance looked out the window. “They’re stopping.”

Lance looked forward and slammed his hands on the dash as the canyon came closer and closer. Shadow purred into Alia’s neck to calm her rising fear he could sense in her.

“They will not let us die because I will kill them.” Alia smiled.

Sal’van growled at him. “We are going to die with these stinking Oomans and all you can think of is mating with her.”

Shadow growled at Sal’van but continued to purr into Alia’s neck.

The trees became blurry as Alec accelerated even more then the feeling of weightlessness took over.

“Now!” Josh screamed at Lance.

He slammed his hand down on the red button.

“Thrusters activated in 5...4 ...3...2...1 ignition.”

The army stopped at the edge of the cliff and watched the armored vehicle soaring through the sky.

Screaming in fear and roaring with joy filled the cabin of the soaring vehicle. Josh yelled in triumph that the thrusters finally worked. The vehicle soared over to the other side and descended to the ground. Josh hit the brakes and it skidded to a stop sliding to the right.

“Is everyone okay?” Josh asked looking back in the cabin.

Rito and Myx were smiling at him. False, Kayco, and Eli looked uncertain. Sal’van was showing Josh his blade. Shadow was purring into Alia’s neck calming her. Brian however was doubled over with pain.

“They are talking about killing him.” Lance said to Josh who was looking for the medical kit for Alia.

“I thought you said they were jamming the signal from the translator.”

“They are but that retarded one keeps laughing and flashing his blade around. I know he wants to kill Brian.”

Josh pulled the medical kit from the storage in the back. “I’m not going to let him hurt Brian okay Lance.”

Lance nodded and ran his hands through his black hair. Josh looked at him. “Alia will fix him believe that.”

Lance nodded and followed him out.

Alia took some bottled water and poured it into the syringe that she placed the powdered substance she had already measured.

“You sho’ give that to th’ settlers.” Brian said shaking under the blanket.

Alia smiled at him. “I need as our kind likes to say a guinea pig.”

Brian chuckled as he continued to shiver. Lance and Josh were kneeling beside him on the ground. She injected him with the concoction and smoothed the hair from his sweat soaked forehead.

“I’ll get him another blanket.” Alia said touching Lance on the shoulder as she rose to walk to Alec.

“He will cause us nothing but problems when he changes.” Sal’van clicked.

Eli hissed at Sal’van.

“He and the others have saved us on two occasions and have proven that they are useful and trustworthy Oomans. We will not be apart of your decision to kill the one named Brian.” False clicked at Sal’van.

Sal’van looked at False with a crinkled brow. “I don’t care what his name is, he is a threat to Alia, and he must be eliminated.” Sal’van turned and headed for Brian.

Lance looked up from his kneeling position to see Sal’van coming and ran at him. Sal’van threw him off as if he was nothing. He raised his blade and Josh moved to cover Brian’s body.

The blow never came. Shadow had grabbed Sal’van’s wrist in a painful hold and made him drop the blade.

“You will not harm Joshua, Lance or Brian, they haven proven that they can be trusted now we must prove that we can be trusted and allow the medicine to work.”

Sal’van pulled away from Shadow’s grasp. “You don’t like Oomans why are you protecting them.”

“They saved our lives Sal’van even you must see that.”

Sal’van looked at Josh.” They are still useless.” Sal’van walked away picking up his blade.

Lance got up and smiled at Shadow. Alia came from Alec carrying a blanket for Brian.

“Thanks.” Lance said going back to his seat beside Brian.

Josh nodded at Shadow who returned it and walked away.

“Okay the way I see it they can only come at us from one direction that’s south. We got some more weapons in Alec and he can be our back up. I’ll keep a look out for all positions. False you can handle a side alone can’t you?”

False nodded. Josh smiled. “Good. Okay” He began pointing at the three dimensional figure of the land that Alec was projecting for them outside. “Kayco you and Eli take the west and False will have the east and that leaves me, Rito, Myx, Sal’van, and Lance to take out whatever is coming up the middle.”

Sal’van grunted.

Lance looked at him. “Are you going to help or do you wish to die because I will gladly let them have you?”

Sal’van looked at the stinky Ooman speaking to him as if he was some lowly Yautja. He would have to teach him his place. “I will help Alia to escape this.”

“Then you will help us?” Josh asked frowning at him.

“Yes I will help.”

Lance nodded at Josh.

Josh turned to Shadow. “The big guy is yours. I don’t have any idea how to kill a regenerating creature other then overloading his system so he can’t but that would take tremendous strength.”

Shadow was deep in thought when Brian started coughing. Alia helped him sit up.
Brian turned away from her and began vomiting. Alia moved back when purple mucus came from the Medic.

Lance and Josh were standing by. Brian laid back down breathing normal.

He smiled at Lance and Josh. “Where do you want me Sarge?” Josh smiled at him.

Lance made a face. “First clean up that vomit and yourself then maybe we’ll talk.”

Brian closed his eyes and chuckled. Alia began wiping his mouth.

“How many do you think there are?” Rito clicked at Shadow.

“Maybe thousands we don’t know how many were in the cave or how many of their army had not finished the transformation.”

“Thousands against nine it does not look good Shadow.” Myx clicked.

Shadow put his hands on each of their shoulders. “You two the greatest pilots I have ever known. You have gotten us out of situations I thought were the end and I know that you will do the same here.”

They put their hand on Shadow’s shoulder. “You are the greatest Hunter we have ever known. No prey escapes you and we know this hunt will end as all the others have, with victory.”

False, Eli and Kayco watched them. False purred to them. Shadow smiled at his long time friend. “I will live long enough to kill you for these changes in my body False.”

Kayco and Eli hissed and the others chuckled. Shadow then started thinking back to his fight with the wolf /lion creature and that its claws could not penetrate his skin.

The blonde haired Sergeant sat alone holding his Commanders gun in his hand. Cal Winters was his father’s best friend. They had fought in every war together until now. Josh was called to help Cal and he had killed him. Josh grimaced as his bones began to ache. He had a bone disease that would eventually kill him one day.

Lance watched him. “Go get a blanket and keep warm we don’t need you stiffening up.”

Josh smiled. “Feel like an old man sometimes.”

“All of 27.”

Josh stood with help from Lance. “Don’t worry Josh you’ll live to see your old age.”

“That’s my job to make sure you and the others get home and that’s what I am going to do.”

Alec started making a beeping noise and the three-dimensional figure projected before them.

“There are about fifty of them. I’m sure these are just the scouts.” Josh said grabbing his guns.

“Alia get inside Alec and stay there.” Shadow purred in her ear.

Alia looked up at him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “Shadow I...”

“My name is Ka’leb.”

Alia smiled as she laid her cheek on his muscled chest. “Ka’leb I will wait for your return.”

He squeezed her. “I expect you willing and waiting.”

Alia chuckled. “I will always be that way for you and you alone.”

Sal’van growled when Shadow opened his mandibles to taste his mate’s lips. Shadow pulled away, Alia walked inside Alec, and the door closed.

Lance started picking of the ones running at them with weapons.

“Look like some special forces unit.” Lance yelled at Josh.

Josh avoided a swing of a blade, stepped towards the man’s body, and broke his neck.
Rito and Myx went out to meet the small force with blades and spear. They made short work of the rest of the men and returned to the others.

Josh smiled. “Let’s reload befor…..”

Alec started beeping again and projected the hologram image to them outside.

“Oh my lord.” Brian said leaning against a tree.

There were thousands of them climbing up the cliff. They saw a huge white looking creature walking on all fours like a lizard. It had a skeleton of bone covered with muscle. It had to be at least ten feet long and five feet wide. Jack’s face was no longer recognizable. The canines were still there and two speared tails but Jack was completely gone. It’s only mission now was continuing its race.

“We are going to need a miracle.” Lance said.

False looked at the hologram and turned to his right and let out a roar that made everyone cover their ears.

“What the hell is he doing?” Lance screamed at Brian as they covered their ears.

False held the roar for six seconds then he stopped and there was silence. Then a squeal could be heard. Kayco and Eli returned with squeals of their own. Josh and Lance looked in the direction of the squealing and saw the black creatures running on all fours towards them; some were in the trees leaping from branch to branch in a hurry to fight with their leader.

Josh smiled at False. “Holding out on us.” False grunted in amusement.

The serum induced army was moving at a fast pace and would reach them before False’s army. They could hear Jack’s roaring.
Brian hobbled up to Josh and Lance.

“Are you up for this Squirt?” Lance asked.

“Kind of don’t have a choice sir.”

Eli and Kayco went out and started attacking the closest soldiers.

Shadow’s roar answered Jack. He had moved down into a cleared valley. Jack returned with another roar and veered off in Shadow’s direction.

Josh looked at Rito, Myx, Sal’van, Lance, and Brian. He put Cal’s gun in his waistband in the front of his fatigues and pulled out his weapon from its holster on his right thigh.

“Let’s go kick some ass.”

They split up and ran down to meet the army.
