CHAPTER 16: SURPRISE?

As Dom reaches the back door his heart is going 100 miles per hour, he didn't know exactly what to expect when he got outside but he had to get to Eva. Dom opens the back door and jumps the stairs as the back lights turn on and blind him, he hears the roaring sound of,
"SURPRISE!!"
Dom stands in shock while his eyes adjust to the light and sees all his friends and family holding gifts. Eva and Mia are holding a cake with the picture of his old Charger GTO on it. Vince, Leon and Brian come up to him and shake his hand. Dom is still in shock. Vince puts his arm around Dom's neck and begins to walk toward the cake as everyone begins to sing "Happy Birthday", when the singing stops he looks around to everyone and looks at Eva and Mia and sees Lisa with a camcorder.
"You little sneaks, you two tricked me" Dom says smiling , relieved that nothing bad happened.
"We love you too, don't worry we'll clean up"Mia says pouting.
"Now make a wish and blow, this cake is heavy" Eva says struggling.
Dom looks around to his family and friends and thinks 'What else can I possibly wish for?' and just as fast he thinks of something, smiles, looks at Eva and blows his candles. Everyone begins to clap and the music starts to play. The cake is cut and served. Eva walks up to Dom and gives him a birthday kiss. "So what did you wish for?"
"If I tell you it won't come true" Dom holds her hand and looks at her in such a way it gives her goose bumps.
"Mr. Toretto what are you up to?" she says raising one eyebrow.
"Your not the only one filled with surprises" Dom says giving her a wink. Dom notices the only one missing is Jesse and asks Eva where he is.
"He said something about getting you a surprise present. He'll be here Dom" Eva said reassuring him.
"OK present time" Mia says as the music is lowered, Dom growls and tries to protest but Eva drags him and sits him down. Vince stands in front of him and tilts his head to the side and begins a speech.
"Dom, ...my best friend, .....my brother......... you know I gotta embarrass you right?" everyone begins to laugh and Vince continues, " When we were little we used to beat up the other kids on the block and take their bikes just for the excitement. As we got older we found a new rush in fast cars. I remember our first race, and even though you beat me, by the way you never gave me a rematch, I knew that it was something that was gonna bond us for life, so here is to you Dom, Happy Birthday bro" he raises his Corona and everyone does the same, as they cheer. Vince hands him a bag and inside there is a box. Dom opens the box and it's an exact model replica of his GTO.
"Oh man, this is something , thanks Vince"
Leon comes up to Dom and gives him a box of Cuban cigars and looks towards Brian and says " Don't' ask"
"I saw nothing" Brian responds covering his eyes with his hands. Mia is next, she looks at her brother and can't help to get sentimental, she laughs as tears come out of her eyes.
"Dom my big brother, we've been thru so much, and after dad died we seemed to depend on each other for everything. I love you. My gift to you is this..." she pulls out a little gold box and hands it to him.
"Open it Dom" Mia says pointing to the box. Dom looks at her suspiciously and opens the box, everyone crowds around him to see what it is. Mia had kept it a secret, she didn't want anyone ruining the surprise. As Dom opens the box he takes out a familiar platinum ring and on the inside has the initials DT.
"Mia is this?............." Dom asks looking at her in disbelief.
"Yeah Dom it's dad's ring, the one he never used to take off. Before he died he had to pond it so he could pay for my school books and I found it almost 4 months later. I had to take it to get polished of course, it was all dirty with grease. I know he would've wanted you to have it"
Everyone was speechless including Dom, he slides the ring on his wedding finger and it fits perfectly. He looked at Mia and with tears in his eyes gets up and embraces her in a hug.
"Mia, this is the best gift anyone has ever given me, I can't believe you found it" he just can't manage to get that smile off of his face.
"How am I supposed to match that?" Eva says as she approaches the both of them.
"You can't" Mia says with a beat that voice. Eva sticks her tongue out at her and hands Dom her gift.
"I know this is gonna look minute next to Mia's gift but it comes from my heart" she kisses him and everyone says "AAAAWWWW" Eva sticks her middle finger at them from behind her back.
Dom looks at the big rectangular fancy box wrapped in a bow, he opens it and there is a lot of paper inside. He finally finds the present wrapped up in all the protective paper and it's a 10 x 12 black and white picture of all of them on the boardwalk the day they got their bracelets. They are all standing Dom/Eva, Mini/Vince, Jesse/Lisa and Leon/Coco and all of them have their arms in a team position showing the bracelets. Around the edge of the frame the same words of their bracelets are carved in it and Dom reads it out loud "' True Friends Are Hard To Find, Difficult To Leave and Impossible To Forget'"
Dom begins to laugh as he remembers that night. He looks up at his team,... his friends,... his family.
"So, do you like it?" Eva asks biting her bottom lip.
"I love it! , I'm gonna put it right in the living room for everyone to see" he gives her a kiss and Brian interrupts by clearing his throat. Dom looks at Brian with a wise ass face.
"Ehm! My turn ladies. Dom in honor of your birthday and in light of your retirement from racing, I present you with these" he hands Dom a manilla folder. Dom opens the folder and is baffled by the tickets inside so Brian explains.
"Those are lifetime tickets to the race track's, for you and the team" Brian says and Dom looks at him confused.
"Uhm Brian, I'm banned from the tracks, remember?"
"Not anymore, or did you forget I'm a cop" Brian has a satisfied look on his face and Dom has a childish grin on his. Both men give each other a manly hug and Dom shows the tickets to the rest like a little kid showing off his new toy.
This was turning out to be a great day for everyone. Dom sits down and sits Eva on his lap.
"Are you enjoying yourself?" Eva asks as she rubs his head.
"I'm having a great time baby thank you so much!"
Everyone begins eating and carrying on conversations when all of the sudden the music is cut off. When everyone looks to see what happened they see Jesse standing by the radio.
"Sorry I'm late guys"
"Jesse where you've been?" Mia asks still holding a plate of food she was serving for Brian. Jesse looks over to Dom he is about to ask him something but interrupts him.
"Dom I have a surprise for you.............Happy Birthday!" Jesse points towards the driveway and on cue she walks in. Everyone's mouth drops open.
"Letty! oh my God you're back!" Mia runs to her old friend and both start giggling and laughing.
'Letty?, this is not good' Eva thinks to herself.
