Chapter 16
Alexis sat in her room and stared at the wall. What was she going to say to her father? She so badly wanted to serve him well. The other council members were not aware of their relation; they thought he had just known her family off world. They didn’t know that she was being raised by close friends of his. His union that brought about a child with the woman that was her mother would have been frowned upon back when she was born shortly after the near extinction of the Furyan Race. She never got a straight answer as to what race her mother was. Everyone acted as though they were not sure even. Her father’s time with the woman was short. He was not even aware she had gotten pregnant until she was close to delivery. She disappeared shortly after having Alexis and no one ever heard from her since. Alexis had a tear fall down her cheek as she remembered her father saying her mother must have been an angel. How else could he have gotten such a wonderful gift from God in her?
Alexis smiled at the memory and reached forward opening a channel to her father.
“Yes, Councilman Talon speaking.”
“Hello Mr. Talon, this is Alexis.”
“Oh, my dear Alexis, don’t worry, I am alone. I have missed you so much.” A slight quiver entering his voice at the last line.
“I have missed you too father. So very much.” Alexis said tearing up.
“Well….” Mr. Talon said trying to keep his voice steady. “How are you? After talking with Mr. Lawson I hadn’t planned on hearing from you till you landed.”
Alexis cleared her throat and looked into the monitor smiling. “I need to discuss Riddick.”
After a long silence Mr. Talon Spoke. “I figured as much. What about him?”
Alexis drew in a deep breath and closed her eyes a second before continuing. “He is here with me, on the ship. I faked his death in SLAM and revived him here on the ship. He is coming with me, back to Furya.” She looked into her fathers eyes not able to read his position. “I love him father.”
Mr. Talon stayed quiet for a long moment as though he was deep in thought. He finally nodded to his daughter. “We will discuss it with the council when you get here.”
Alexis frowned. “That’s fine, but just so you know. I will not leave Riddick. I have promised him that we will raise this child together.”
Mr. Talon looked at Alexis and nodded again. “Are you willing to fight for him Alexis?”
Alexis didn’t even have to think about it. “Yes, yes I will fight for him, and he will fight for me.”
Mr. Talon looked at his daughter with surprise. “Alright my daughter. I will see you both soon.” He clicked off the monitor and sat back in his chair. Smiling, he jumped up clapping his hands together and exclaiming, “Yes!” He walked out of the room to the Council. They looked at him eagerly awaiting the news.
“She is almost here.” The group gave a collective sigh and smiled at each other. Mr. Talon continued, “And she has brought Mr. Riddick with her.” The group got quiet and looked at Mr. Talon. He stared back at them and then raised his hands up towards the sky. “We have been saved.”
Alexis climbed up on the bed and curled up after talking to her father. She was so tired with everything that had happened. She closed her eyes just wanting to get some rest before landing. She smiled to herself and drifted off to sleep with thoughts of Riddick on her mind and growing child.
