AN1: Hiya lovelies! Back for more I see? Good, good. This week’s chapter was finished quite quickly (by Sunday) so I had a lot of left-over time to work on a little multi-chapter fic which I hope to be getting to you all by the end of next month. It is not the Mpreg fic but I promise you I will write that eventually, this year even! Anywho this fic was written while babysitting my two year old nephew with my niece. We decided to let him pick out a movie and I would write a story around that movie, the movie he picked was Hunchback of the Notre dame by Disney. Enjoy!

Necessary thanks go out to YaoiFreak5i0 for Beta-ing this story for me, you are awesome!

000 Movie Night 000

It was Saturday night and the clock had just passed the eight o’clock mark when the door opened to reveal John, in casual clothes for a change, with a six-pack of soda cans in one hand and a bag of un-popped microwave popcorn in the other.

“Movie night!” The agent declared as Hellboy stepped into the living room section of his rooms. For weeks now, Saturday night had officially been declared movie night: the one day of the week when the demon and his liaison both decided to let loose and relax for a bit with a few hours of staring mindlessly at a screen whilst eating snacks and hanging around on the couch. The perfect past time if you asked him.

John kicked off his shoes and shoved them in a corner, socked feet now padding across the metal floor to place the cans on the small coffee table between the couch and the many television sets. The agent tossed him the bag of popcorn and he caught it without looking, battle-honed reflexes good for more than just kicking the crap out of bad guys, apparently.

“Extra salty. Nice.” Hellboy declared after reading the instructions on the package. John nodded before turning to his movie collection to pick their flick for the night as the demon made his way into the kitchen to prepare their snacks. He shoved the package of popcorn into the microwave and pressed the required buttons to get the machine going. While the popcorn popped, he grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and placed it on the counter for later.

“Wha’d’ you wanna watch?” John called out from the other room. Hellboy pondered the question for a moment, but found he wasn’t really in the mood for anything specific.

“Don’t really care.” He called back over the sound of popping.

“Want me to pick something?” The agent asked next, and he shrugged before realizing his partner couldn’t see the gesture.

“Sure.” He answered just as the microwave beeped loudly. Hellboy opened the small door and took out the steaming bag of popcorn before slamming it closed again. He poured the contents of the swollen bag into the bowl, perfectly popped popcorn filling it. He couldn’t resist the temptation of stealing a handful.

He walked into the living room, bowl in hand, happily munching away on his popcorn, to find John already on the couch watching the previews. The demon plopped down next to his partner and placed the bowl in the small space between them.

“What are we watching?” Hellboy asked as he grabbed, opened and took a sip from one of the cans of soda the agent had brought with him. John already had his own can in hand and was now also enjoying a significantly smaller handful of popcorn.

“The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” His partner said just as the commercials ended and the movie began. Hellboy’s brow rose at the answer and he gave the kid a weird look which John noticed all too quickly.

“What?” John asked as he popped some popcorn into his mouth.

“A Disney movie? Really?” Hellboy replied, slightly exasperated, as the movie opened with a song sung by a gypsy dressed like a clown. The gypsy appeared to have a thing for puppets, which he found a little creepy. But, he wasn’t going to share that little titbit of information with the agent.

“It was my favourite movie when I was a kid and I haven’t seen it in years so I thought ‘why not?’.” John answered with a shrug, completely focused on the story being told by the gypsy, who he remembered to be named Clopin, as he snacked on some more popcorn. Hellboy sighed before making himself more comfortable on the couch by leaning his arm on the backrest, stone hand just barely resting against the agent’s shoulder. John either didn’t notice or he didn’t mind for he made no move to inch away from the close contact.

“It’s an okay movie I suppose.” Hellboy said as he took another sip of his Coke, figuring that, if it was his partner’s favourite movie when he was a kid, he could sit through it for him. He turned back to the screen to see another gypsy, a lady this time, running away from the bad guy. She was clutching her baby to her chest and banging on the door to the church. Before she could be saved, though, the judge caught up to her and ended up killing her as he took her kid away.

“What’s your favourite Disney movie?” John suddenly asked during the very dramatic scene in which the bad guy wanted to drown the baby. (Luckily, the kid was saved by the appearance of the archdeacon.)

“Who says I have one?” He retorted, glaring at the screen. The judge guy was calling the baby a demon and wanted to ‘send it back to Hell where it belonged’. Hellboy suddenly remembered why he didn’t really like this movie all that much.

“Everybody loves Disney movies Red, even you.” The demon wanted to deny that claim but John spoke up again before he could. “Why else would you have every single one of their movies ever released on VHS and on DVD?” Hellboy didn’t really know what to say to that. It was true, he did own them all, but that was mostly because he watched a lot of TV and, when there was nothing on, he liked to have something to fall back on. There was, however, one Disney movie he preferred over all others.

“The Aristocats.” He mumbled as the judge guy on TV suddenly seemed to realize his hands weren’t the cleanest and that killing a baby would only help him along the way to purgatory.

“Figures.” John said with a snort as one of his kittens jumped on the kid’s lap, the agent absentmindedly petted the feline as he watched the movie. Hellboy smiled at the image of his partner and the happily purring kitten in his lap, way more interested in watching his nanny than focusing on the screen now portraying a grown-up bell ringer.

He was once again left to wonder why the human willingly spent his free Saturdays with him instead of going out like all the other single agents did when they had the night off. He was sure John had no trouble meeting new people and, if he actually were to leave the Bureau for more than just missions, he might even meet that special someone he could spend the rest of his life with. For some strange reason, the thought of his nanny spending his Saturday nights with someone else angered him more than it should, though he had no idea why. Hellboy turned back to the movie so he wouldn’t have to think about any of the conflicting feelings going through him right now.

On screen, Quasimodo appeared to want to go to some kind of festival but the bad guy wasn’t letting him go. Judge Frollo kept telling the guy he was a monster and that people wouldn’t accept him for his looks which just ticked the demon off for so many different reasons. Just because you looked a little different didn’t make you ugly or deformed, his father had told him so many times before and, though he himself had trouble remembering that every once in a while, he knew there were people out there who accepted him no matter what he looked like. Good people, like John, who didn’t run away screaming at the very sight of him.

Hellboy did feel he could relate to this movie because, in his eyes, Quasimodo was just like him: someone who just wanted live his life like everyone else despite his looks. The guy had a good heart and deserved that kind of life, unlike some of the monsters he’d seen scurrying amongst innocent people without their knowing. People who took their lives for granted without even realizing how lucky they were to have it. The thought both angered and saddened him, so he forced himself not to think about it anymore, movie night was about having fun and not about wallowing in his own self-pity.

He focused back on the movie to find that the scene had shifted to a blonde knight of some sort. The guy was attempting to get directions from some of the soldiers patrolling the city, but they simply ignored him. A sudden shift of movement distracted him again and he looked over to find John had inched forward just a bit and was now staring at the screen with a strange, almost dreamy, look in his eyes.

“You know…” John began, voice a little lighter than it should be. “I used to have the biggest crush on Phoebus when I was a kid.” The agent declared and the feeling of jealousy erupted inside of him like a volcano.

“Why?” Hellboy asked as his eyes flicked back to the screen. He, of course, saw nothing in this guy that might warrant even the slightest bit of his partner’s affection. He did, however, file away for later the fact that John had had a crush on a man-even if it was a fictional man. It might come in handy one day.

“He’s funny, good-looking, kind. Need I say more?” The agent explained and the demon settled for simply glaring at the screen every time he caught sight of the blonde. Hellboy wasn’t sure why he was jealous of the kid’s childhood crush, but he did know he wasn’t going to let anything stand between him and his nanny.

A comfortable silence settled between them as the movie continued, scenes shifting from one to another as a young gypsy woman named Esmeralda escaped from some guards with a little help from Phoebus and his horse. He watched John for any signs of his returning puppy dog-love but, other than a small giggle when the blonde made his horse sit on one of the guards, he saw nothing suspicious. His worries faded and it was only a few minutes before they were both happily humming along with the ever-so-catchy Topsy Turvy song.

The demon couldn’t help but smile when Quasimodo, who had defied the judge and gone to the festival anyways, stumbled into Esmeralda’s tent. The bell-ringer knocked over just about everything in sight as he tripped over a small stool and got tangled up in a piece of cloth before landing in a disoriented heap on the floor. The gypsy had instantly wanted to make sure he hadn’t hurt himself and though Quasimodo had tried to hide behind his cloak she simply pulled it back to reveal his face. To his surprise, she didn’t even blink twice at his more than odd looks and, after she had escorted him back out of the tent, he had that sort of dreamy look on his face that clearly said he was already head over heels for the girl. This, of course, only got worse when the gypsy danced in the Feast of Fools, much to the abhorrence of the bad guy and the delight of the blonde knight, who had made their appearances a little earlier. Esmeralda then got a little close and personal with the judge, only to shove his ridiculous hat over his face before dancing off again, finishing with a grand finale by spinning herself around a spear like it was a stripper pole.

Everything was going well so far, until the crowning of the King of Fools, that is.

Quasimodo had been pulled on stage by Esmeralda to enter in the competition to find the ugliest face of Paris only to give the people quite a shock when they found out it was his actual face instead of some mask, as they had all thought. Judge Frollo was just as shocked as the rest of them, but for totally different reasons. Luckily, the clown from the beginning of the movie managed to calm everyone down by convincing them of the fact that they had just found the ugliest face of Paris and, therefore, their King. Quasimodo was then crowned and everyone cheered his name but, unfortunately, good things never last long. A few seconds later, one of the guards threw a tomato at the bell-ringer, completely out of nowhere. More soon followed, and he was even roped down by the jeering citizens and, though he begged and pleaded to his Master, the judge made no move to help him.

Hellboy didn’t even notice that by this part, he was growling at the screen, until he felt John scoot at bit closer to him and place a comforting hand on his knee. He looked at the kid in surprise, but the agent simply offered him a small smile before turning back to watch the movie again. The demon blinked and, a second later, he had his arm around John’s shoulder and was pulling him closer. His partner’s head now rested on the demon’s shoulder but neither one said a word about the sudden closeness between them and they simply enjoyed the contact while it lasted.

He noticed the room had suddenly gotten very quiet and he looked back to the television to find Esmeralda had gotten up on stage and was now slowly approaching the tied down bell-ringer. Judge guy instantly ordered her to stand down, but the gypsy just cut through the ropes holding Quasimodo down, which angered the baddie to new levels. She then proceeded to give the guy a heavy lecture, which, quite frankly, Hellboy felt he more than deserved. Judge Frollo then ordered his guards to capture her but, luckily, Esmeralda managed to escape, with a little help from the other gypsies present at the festival. With the disappearance of the female gypsy, the baddie turned his anger on Quasimodo, who quickly fled back inside the church.

Hellboy felt bad for the guy, really bad. In comparison to him, the demon had it easy because he still had friends who understood him and a father-figure that truly loved him. Sure, he was only allowed to go outside for missions, but at least people didn’t tie him down only to mock him. Yeah, he had had his fair share of ridicule, but nothing this soul shattering that was for sure. He glanced at the small body cuddling against him and counted himself more than lucky to have someone like John by his side.

After that, most of the movie passed in a blur. Esmeralda hiding in the church and battling it out with Phoebus. Frollo showing up wanting to arrest her only to, once again, be stopped by the archdeacon. Bad guy getting a little too close for comfort to the gypsy and her realizing she was now imprisoned within the church walls. Quasimodo and Esmeralda becoming friends as he helps her escape. Phoebus showing up and the bell-ringer chasing him off again.

Now Quasimodo was singing and all he could think about was his liaison and this strange feeling that had been growing inside his chest for way too long now threatening to burst free. He didn’t even dare look at the agent in fear of saying something he might regret, something he himself wasn’t even fully sure of yet. All he knew was that he used to feel the same way Quasimodo did, like no one could ever love him simply because they couldn’t see past his looks, but now, every time he thought of John, he didn’t feel that way anymore. He wasn’t sure if the kid felt the same way, but he planned to find out one day, one day soon.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of bells and as he realized it was coming from the TV he also realized the movie had continued on without him, and they were now focusing on Judge Frollo. The guy was singing to himself as images formed in the fire, shapes of a certain gypsy dancing seductively in the flames.

“How did I miss that?” John suddenly exclaimed whilst frowning at the screen.

“Miss what?” Hellboy asked because, really, he had no idea what the agent was talking about.

“The fact that he’s totally lusting after Esmeralda!” His partner said, hands gesturing wildly at the screen where the bad guy was currently getting all touchy-feely with Esmeralda’s shawl. “I used to think he hated her and just wanted to kill her because she’s a gypsy, but now I see he totally wants her.”

“Yeah, so?” Hellboy asked, still not sure what the big deal was. Maybe it was because he’d been well into his forties when he first saw this movie and therefore totally aware of the adult undertones in it or maybe it was because he didn’t have the same emotional connection to this movie as John apparently did. Whatever it was, it must be important to his nanny.

So?” The kid repeated as he turned around and gave him the same look he had given him when they had first met, the one that said he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing, or in this case, hearing. “What about thinking she’s a witch and wanting to see her hanging from the gallows? That isn’t exactly something you want to do to the person you have feelings for!”

“If you ask me, I’d say he’s just now coming to terms with his feelings.” Hellboy pointed out as the song reached its climax with Frollo sinking to his knees as he vowed to make Esmeralda his own or condemn her to hellfire.

“Just now? How long does it take to realize something as simple as that?” John asked as he turned back to watch the screen, head tilted just a tad in confusion.

“Sometimes it takes a while to realize you want something you really shouldn’t want.” He mumbled softly, more to himself than in response to the agent’s question. Not that it mattered as John was already completely focused on the screen again and hadn’t heard his words. It was probably better that way. He didn’t want John to find out about his feelings, at least not yet, as he had yet to come up with a way to put them into words without sounding incredibly stupid. Maybe he could tell the kid after the movie. That would still give him plenty of time to think and plan this whole thing out. And, perhaps he would even pray a little, just in case.

They watched the rest of the movie, all the way through to the ending. The bowl of popcorn was now empty and had been moved out of the way as they sipped at the last cans of soda during the final battle at Notre Dame. He had to admit, it was quite the epic battle even though half of the time he wasn’t really paying attention, preferring to simply watch his nanny as he figured out what he was going to say. So far he hadn’t been able to think of anything yet.

John was still snuggled up against him, something he didn’t mind at all, as on screen the bad guy made a last desperate attempt to decapitate Esmeralda, only to plunge to his death into the fiery depths below as the gargoyle he was standing on broke off. The suspense didn’t end with that, though, as Quasimodo suddenly slipped from the gypsy’s grasp and was certain to fall to his doom,. He even felt the agent tense against him during that particular scene, but, luckily, he was saved by Phoebus who caught him and hauled him back inside the church. Esmeralda quickly joined the two and hugged the bell-ringer, after which Quasimodo took both the gypsy’s and the blonde’s hands and brought them together. The two kissed and Quasi smiled at his friends with genuine happiness, something Hellboy felt sure he couldn’t possibly do if he saw someone else kissing the person he loved.

“As a kid, I never fully got why she didn’t pick Quasimodo.” John suddenly said, breaking him from his thoughts. “I mean the guy’s her friend, he protected her and it’s clear he loves her. What more could she possibly want?” The agent asked him and he felt a little at loss for words. Sure he understood why a younger version of his partner didn’t understand why the two never hooked up but what could he say, other than that it was just not meant to be simply because Esmeralda loved the hunchback like she would love a brother?

“Maybe it’s because Phoebus is funnier, better-looking and kinder.” He eventually went with, repeating the kid’s words back to him with a smirk. John half-glared at him for a second before reaching for the remote as the credits rolled by on screen. The small movement dislodged his stone hand from the agent’s shoulder and, to make matters worse, his partner completely broke all physical contact with him as he got up to remove the DVD from the player.

John crossed the distance to the TV and went about putting the small disc back in its cover in silence, all the while keeping his back turned to him. Hellboy thought he might have upset his partner and was about to apologize when the kid turned back to face him after having put the DVD back in its proper place within his collection. He was glad to note that his partner didn’t appear angry or even mildly annoyed at him, rather he looked strangely determined with that sexy smirk on his face.

John walked back to him slowly, hips swaying in a way that pulled his eyes to them like a magnet. It wasn’t until the kid dropped back down on the couch next to him that he managed to look away from the strangely erotic sight of the agent’s hot bod slowly moving in on him. The thoughts that came with the light swaying of those tantalizing hips were a little harder to get rid of though and he could only hope John wouldn’t notice how hard he was making it for him, quite literally, hard.

“All I’m saying is that, if someone were to give me the choice between the knight and the bell-ringer, I’d choose the bell-ringer.” The agent declared as he snuggled back up against him and though the demon couldn’t see the blush covering John’s face he did notice the kid’s ears had turned a little pinker. Hellboy smiled and placed his hand on his partner’s hip and, without thinking about it, kissed the top of his nanny’s head. He wasn’t sure what kind of reaction to expect after doing so but when John tilted his head to look at him, cheeks still stained with a light blush, and lightly pecked him on the lips he felt he could die a happy man. He wasn’t about to give up living any time soon though now that he knew his partner returned at least some of the feelings he had for him.

He kissed John again and, this time, he didn’t hold back. He covered the agent’s lips with his own and pulled a deliciously sinful sound from the kid’s throat, something between a moan and a sigh, that only fuelled his desire for more. His partner’s lips parted and he slipped his tongue inside the warm, wet cavern of his mouth, enticing the kid’s tongue to come out and play with his own. Their kiss went on until both of them were panting and as they broke apart to breathe their one mind-blowing kiss morphed into several smaller, yet equally mind-blowing, kisses.

“Want to watch another movie?” John managed to gasp out as Hellboy trailed his tongue down the column of the agent’s neck and bit down, giving him a hickey. The demon chuckled at the sound and doubled his efforts to make his partner even more vocal.

“Maybe later.” He whispered in the kid’s ear before latching on to the lobe. After all. movie night was long from over, and he planned to enjoy every second of it.

000 Movie Night 000

AN2: So, did you all enjoy the movie just as much as HB and John did? I will say it was a bit difficult writing this since it’s been so long since I last saw this movie. Fortunately I love just about every Disney movie (The Lion King is my fav) so I still remembered lots of it from when I was younger. Okay, I suppose that’s all I have to say, see you all next week!
