Chapter 18
Riddick and Alexis felt the ship’s un-even movements as they struggled to get their clothes on. In the 10 hours they were in bed they only spent about 3 of those actually asleep.
“We must be getting close to the surface.” Alexis murmured from the corner of the room.
“Are you OK Alexis?” She heard Riddick ask while he was looking for his missing boot.
She stood up after finding her top and slipping it on. Walking to Riddick she picked up his boot from behind the chair across from the bed and handed it to him.
“I’m fine. We will both be fine, no matter what the Council has to say.”
Riddick looked at her and gently grasped her hand pulling her onto his lap and looking at her. He couldn’t resist the feelings stirring up inside him. Any other person and he would have been able to push them aside and take control, but with Alexis, it was as if he had no control, he was just there moment to moment. And to top it off he was not having doubts about her feelings for him or for the fact that he was letting this happen to them. He no longer cared that some would think he was weak for letting all his defenses go for a woman. But it didn’t matter to him anymore. This strange feeling he had for her was overpowering him and he finally new what it was, knew what he had to do.
“Riddick, are you OK?” Alexis broke the silence after several long moments of Riddick staring at her.
“I’m fine.” He replied curtly. “As a matter of fact, I am better than fine, I am great. I’m out of SLAM, the whole universe thinks I’m dead so no more mercs on my trail, and I have the woman I love and she is carrying my child. The only thing that would make this even better would be if that woman would agree to be my wife.”
Alexis gasped in shock over Riddick’s speech. She could hardly believe her ears. She stared lovingly back into Riddick’s beautiful silver eyes as hers began to tear. She flung her arms around him and hugged him tight, the word ‘yes’ repeating out of her mouth.
Riddick wrapped his arms around her hugging and kissing her back.
“Forever, no matter what.” He whispered in her ear.
“Always and forever.” She whispered back.
They held each other for a few more minutes, their foreheads touching as they relished in their embrace before having to meet with the Council. Their love for one another evident by their embrace and thoughtful looks.
