Chapter 18:
A/N: Okay sorry it’s been a while since my last update…but here it is…hope you enjoy it!
Disclaimer: Nope still not the owner of Jack Sparrow or POTC…Disney just won’t give them up. So I’m still not getting paid to write this story!
It had been four months now since Will had ordered his father to start sailing the Dutchman to the isle of Lemuria where the chest that contained his heart was buried. Four months since he had decided to take his life back…or rather what was left of it anyway. Nearly everyday since then he had stolen glimpses of Elizabeth and her children. Deciding that he wanted to see her in person once more before making his journey to the underworld for the last time he opened the door to his closet in his cabin. Inside the closet was a full length mirror that could take him anywhere he wanted to go. All he had to do was step through it. Taking a moment to gather himself he then stepped through the mirror and was surrounded by thick silvery blue fog that swirled around him. Thick tendrils of the strange fog tangled themselves around his legs as if it were pulling him down. And then he felt his feet connect with the ground again. The thick silvery blue fog began to dissipate and he realized that he was standing in the middle of the deck of the Pearl. A few of the crew members froze where they stood staring at him with wide unblinking eyes. Gibbs who had just appeared from below decks nearly collapsed when he saw him.
“Sweet Jesus…slap me mother an’ call me crazy! Will?”
“Hello Gibbs…it’s been quite a while.”
“Aye…yer not here on business I hope?”
“No…not business…just to see Elizabeth…is she around?”
“Miss Elizabeth is in the captain’s cabin…lying down. M’ afraid being with child takes a lot out of her.”
“Where’s Jack?”
“Went ashore with a few men t’ get some supplies in Tortuga.”
“May I see her?”
“M’ not sure that Jack would rightly appreciate that Will.”
“And I’m not sure that I really care what Jack would appreciate. I didn’t appreciate him stealing Elizabeth…but that didn’t stop him.”
“Right…well jus’ be quick bout it then?”
“No worries…I’ll be gone before Jack even knows I was here.”
Nodding Gibbs watched as Will headed into the cabin. Inside the cabin Will saw the cradle that little Kate was fast asleep in at the foot of the bed. His dark eyes shifted to a small hammock tied up in the farthest corner of the room…he guessed it to be Daniel’s. It was empty and judging from the silence in the room the boy must have been in town with his father. His eyes finally fell upon Elizabeth. She was lying stretched out across the bed in nothing but a white linen men’s shirt…more than likely one of Jack’s. Will frowned when he noticed the small pregnant bump that had taken the place of her normally flat stomach. Even pregnant with the child of a man that he hated she still looked beautiful to him. Taking another step forward he grimaced when the floor creaked loudly beneath him. Elizabeth’s tea colored eyes snapped open and she yanked the pistol out from underneath her pillow. Cocking the hammer so it was ready to fire she spoke in a threatening tone.
“Don’t move or I’ll blow your damn head off!”
Will held up his hands making her flinch noticeably before finally lowering her weapon. Her eyes widened before she finally blinked.
“Will?”
“Hello Elizabeth…it’s been a long time.”
“What the hell are you doing here? Where’s Jack?”
“In town…but I didn’t come to see Jack…I came to see you. Are you well?”
“As well as can be expected…I’m pregnant.”
“I know…I can tell. You look beautiful.”
“Thank you…but why are you here?”
“I came to say goodbye.”
“Goodbye? I thought you already did?”
“No…I mean for good.”
“I don’t understand?”
“Elizabeth my life aboard the Dutchman has been a living hell…Calypso has made me her personal slave…in every sense of the word. She tortures me by allowing me to see you through a magic mirror…knowing how much I hate seeing you happy with Jack.”
“Then why do you look into the mirror?”
“Because I still love you Elizabeth.”
“Will I’m sorry…but I stopped feeling that way about you a long time ago…Jack is my husband and I’m in love with him. We have two children together…and our third is on the way. I wish that you would just let me go…for good.”
“I am…it’s why I came to see you. My father is going to stab my heart and take my place as captain of the Dutchman so I can be free.”
“Free?”
“Yes…free…from you and Calypso.”
“Well then…I wish you all the best Will…but you can’t be here when Jack returns. It will only upset him.”
“So you live your life making sure that nothing happens to upset Jack then?”
“No…I live my life raising my children and loving my husband Will…you know that if you’ve been watching me.”
“Yes…unfortunately it’s painfully clear how you feel about Jack.”
“Then there’s nothing left to say.”
“No…I suppose there isn’t.”
“So then you should leave before my husband gets back.”
“Goodbye Elizabeth…you were the love of my life…it shall be your face that I remember on my way to the underworld.”
“If that will give you peace of mind then so be it…now please go?”
“Promise me that you’ll think about me every great once in a while?”
“Will you know that my heart belongs to Jack…please don’t make this any more unpleasant than it already is. Just go!”
“Alright…I’ll never stop loving you Elizabeth…even if you did marry Jack Sparrow.”
She turned her back to him closing her eyes to reign in the tears that were beginning to well up in her tea colored eyes. Why did he always have to make her feel so guilty for loving Jack? She supposed it was because he still loved her so much. Her shoulders trembled as she listened to his boots echoing across the floor of the room as he left. The sound of the door shutting made her knees shudder before giving out completely sending her to the floor on them. Tears rolled down her face as she sobbed silently her shoulders trembling as she struggled to take a deep breath to gather herself. She couldn’t be like this when Jack came back or else he would know that something had happened while he was in town.
Back onboard the Dutchman Will walked back through the mirror into his lonely and dreary cabin. Walking over to his bed he sank down on it. Placing a hand over his chest he let his dark eyes slip closed as he felt his heart give a painful twinge all the way from where it was buried on Lemuria’s sugar white sand beaches. Pressing his palm a little harder against his cold chest he sighed heavily before whispering softly to the empty room.
“Just a little longer and you’ll be free.”
