Chapter 19

Riddick, Alexis, and Matt stood in the cargo hold of the ship waiting for the bay doors to open. Riddick stood behind Alexis hoping to give her strength in what was to come with meeting the Council and her father. Matt stood off to the side watching them. He had no doubt that his best friend and this man, a cold blooded murderer in so many eyes, had an undying love for one another. He secretly prayed that all would go well for them as he watched the bay doors start to open.

Alexis braced herself for what was to come and Riddick, sensing the tension, gently squeezed her shoulder to help give her strength in knowing he was with her. She smiled and touched his hand. When the doors finished opening she let out a small sigh.

An older man stood before her and looked at the three of them. He wore the robes of the Council’s Second Right, a group of people who did errands for the Council members.

“Miss Alexis, if you and your guests would so do so, please follow me. Mr. Lawson, your expertise is no longer required at this time. Your transport is waiting for you in loading doc 8.” The man said without emotion and then turned and walked slowly towards the large doors exiting the hanger.

Matt grabbed his things and walked to Alexis and Riddick. He smiled at them and then hugged Alexis giving her a soft kiss on the cheek. He extended his hand to Riddick and they shook hands nodding a farewell to each other.

Looking at Alexis he stated simply. “If either of you need anything, you call me. I’ll be home all evening.”

He turned his glance to Riddick. “As long as she’s happy, right?” Riddick smiled. “Take care of her Riddick. And I expect an invitation to the wedding.”

Alexis looked at Riddick and then at Matt wild-eyed. “How did you know!”

“I knew something was different while watching you both here. I figured it was the only thing left for you both to share.”

Alexis blushed for the first time at Matt’s remark. Riddick let out a deep laugh and then looking Matt squarely in the eyes he said, “You’re right; it’s all that’s left. And as far as the wedding, how could we even think of proceeding without the best man.”

Matt’s face lit up and he nodded again to Riddick and turned on his heels and walked out of the docking bay.

Alexis turned to Riddick and kissed him deeply. “Thank you. That means a lot that you would have Matt be your best man.”

Riddick hugged her and smiled. “Anything to make you happy baby. Beside, Matt is a good guy. I like him.”

Alexis and Riddick continued kissing until they heard the small man by the exit doors.

“Uh-Hmm. This way please.” He exited the building and Alexis and Riddick walked quickly to catch up to him.
