The Phone Call
Chapter 2 – THE PHONE CAll

Thursday night at the Torretos was as usual. It seemed like life just might be all right again as Mia was preparing dinner
for the guys. Life without her big brother was tough, after all he basically raised her after their father died.
The past few months had been so hard for all of them and Leon and Vince had helped her so much. She would forever be grateful.
“ Vince can you help me set the table, please” Mia called out to the living room where Leon and Vince sat playing a Nascar
game on the Playstation.
Even though it was only the three of them she always set the table up ‘Old habits die hard’ Mia thought
“ Sure thing Mia” Vince said giving her the always reliable smile. Regardless of what happened between Brian and Mia Vince
still cared for her maybe not as much as a love interest but as a sister.
“ Hey dawg I still got the highest score on this game” Leon said with a beat that voice.
“ You just lucky Mia called me to help her set the table fool!” Vince said peaking around the corner to the living room.
“Come on guys you have plenty of time to finish your game later”
They guys just shrugged and sat down to eat and Mia said a prayer,
“ Dear Lord thank you for this food, and for my family... please keep Dominic safe and bring him home Lord” with tears in
hers eyes she could barely make out the Amen. Vince and Leon just stood in silence while she struggled with the last word and
repeated after her “Amen” They began to eat and everything was pretty quiet until there was a knock at the door.
“ I got it” Leon said as he got up to answer the door. “ Well looky here, it’s the mad scientist, what are you doing in these
neck of the woods”
“I was just in the neighborhood and decided to visit you guys, where’s Mia?” said Jesse
“She’s in the dinning room with Vince, we were just eating dinner, care to join us”
“If Mia cooked, hell yeah”
As soon as Mia saw who it was she embraced Jesse in a hug. She couldn’t help it , every time she saw Jesse she remembered
how she almost lost him.
Mia served him a plate and they sat down to eat dinner. After dinner they all went to the living room to watch a Martin Lawrence
stand up comedy tape.
Leon and Vince were on the floor and Mia sat next to Jesse on the sofa.
‘rrrrrrriing, rrrrriiing, rrrriiiiing’
“ Oh no please guys, I’ll get it” Mia says with a sarcastic voice , The guys begin to laugh and so does she as she picks up the phone,
“Hello?” .........No answer
“Hello!?”
That’s when she hears another voice at the other end of the phone that says “ Mia?......Mia is that you?”
Mia closes her eyes and feels her heart sink at the sound of that voice.
With a sigh of relief and her hand on her chest Mia says,
"Brian!"
"Yeah,.....it's me Mia..... please don't hang up!"
Mia is at a loss for words, speechless so brian continues,
"Mia I've been meaning to call I wanted to talk you, to tell you what happened... I wanted to apologize to Dom and the team.."
Mia cuts him off and says, "Brian not right now, it's just good to hear you voice"
"It's good to hear your voice too"
"Where are you?" Mia asks.
" I can't tell you where I am but I can tell you that I'll be leaving from here in a bout a week or so and I wanted to know if I could
see you?"
" I don't know Brian. I mean so much has happened. Just give me a call in a week or so and we'll take it from there"
"OK, I guess that will have to do for now"........ "Mia I miss and I still love you"
Mia's eyes start to tear and she simple says, " Call me in a week Brian" and she hangs up the phone before he can respond,
all the while thinking to herself ............'I love you too Brian.......I love you too'
She looks into the living room where the guys are watching the movie and as if on cue Jesse looks at her and smiles, she simply
returns the smile and goes and sits donw with Jesse putting her head on his shoulder and they watch the rest of the movie in silence
