The tour, and what she knows

"You could make Thanksgiving for a hundred people in here," Cathy said in wonder.

"Once it was fumigated," Emery said.

"You're such a charmer," Nick said sarcastically.

"Unlike you," Raven said softly, sarcastically, hearing Emery give him a less than witty comeback and sighing.

They walked into the solarium and Raven stayed behind, looking around the kitchen. She heard Steve talking, and walked out into the solarium, seeing him talking on a cell phone. She listened to him speak and then smiled. They were contemplating where Bollinger was, and then Joyce went into a tirade about Miller winning.

"Temper temper," she smiled.

Nick said something about giving Bollinger a good spanking and she looked at him disdainfully.

"You'd be first in line, I'm sure," she said dryly, and he smiled at her.

They were taking their tour, and were now in the prospective hall. Joyce was telling them about the January fifteenth parties, after Annie had told the house to be quite, which had been rather amusing by Raven's standards. They walked into what Joyce thought was the gymnasium, and Raven smiled.

"This type of room demands a certain type of exercise," Vick smiled.

"That it does," Raven said softly, looking at the mirrored floor.

"Didn't think you were into that," Nick whispered over her shoulder,
"Your boyfriend must be a very happy man.

She turned and gave him a cold stare.

"I don't date, I haven't dated in over a year, and I don't plan to," she said softly, glad that everyone else was looking around the room.

"A year?" he asked, looking over her lithe looking body, "That's a long time to go without."

He was idly wondering if she masturbated, and he watched her scowl.

"No, I don't," she said darkly, and he cleared his throat.

She was definitely on his level as far as telepathy then, if he couldn't feel her
readinm. Tm. The lights suddenly went out and she looked up, frowning.

They were having lunch in the billiard room, and Nick threw another sarcastic comment Emery's way, and Raven had to fight down the smile that threatened. She looked up as Joyce was talking about Diana Petry, and felt Nick looking her over again, and crossed her legs, giving him an annoyed look. He gave her a suave smile and she sat her plate down, reaching
for her drink and wishing it was liquor.

"I'm going to go get something out of my bag," she said, getting up and watching Joyce nod.

She walked out and before she left, turned to see Joyce going over to Annie. Sometimes you're such a fool Joyce, she thought, going to pour some of her bourbon into her
coke.

She watched Nick examining the suit of armor, watched his fingers slide along the smooth metal, and swallowed. Okay, so he was attractive, infuriatingly attractive. And he was the only man to ever beat her at pool. The door bell rang and everyone left, and she watched Annie wind up the record player. A few seconds later, Glen Miller began playing and Raven smiled, watching Annie smile back at her, obviously proud of herself. She walked out of the room and Raven chuckled, knowing what was going on in the entrance way. Her mind floated back to Nick, and she frowned.

What the hell, I'll be dead by Monday she thought, getting up and going over to the suit of armor, looking at the places he had touched. How long had it been since anyone touched her? That's what you get for being a coroner, long, lonely nights with no one but the dead to keep you company. It was a common misconception by Joyce that the spirits of the bodies that were brought in followed. No, the souls of the dead went into a
sort of shock, and stayed behind at the place where they had died, sometimes they stayed there, sometimes they realized what hap happened and moved on to the next world.

She crossed her arms and then went over and looked at the photos on the wall of fame, knowing immediately which ones the house had decided it wanted to stay on, not as permanent guests, but as permanent worshipers to its darkness.

"You all right?" Joyce asked, touching her shoulder.

She jumped and looked at her, her cat like eyes widening for a moment, "Jesus, don't sneak up on me, you know I hate that."

"I called your name about ten times," Joyce smiled, "Getting hard of hearing in your old age?"

"Old my ass, I'm younger than you," she smiled, though it was forced.

"By a year," Joyce grinned, poking her, "Come on, I got pizza."

"Wonderful," she said sarcastically, "My favorite."

"You used to eat it all the time," Joyce grinned, "Loose your taste for it after you became a doctor and became rich?"

"No," she smiled, "After I realized there was better food around.":

She sat sipping her tea after she'd finished her two slices, and listened to the story of Posey, Rimbauer's late partner.

"He liked chaps in chaps?" Nick asked, and turned his head and watched Raven clear her throat, but she'd obviously been chuckling.

"So was he into roping, or branding?" he asked, and out of the corner of his eye watched that smile creep across her face.

She was idly listening to them talk, and then the house began shaking. She sighed and calmly continued sipping her tea. It ended with a blast from the fireplace that threw Emery into the floor, and she looked over at Nick, her teacup halfway to her dusty pink lips.

"I don't think it liked what you said," she said softly, watching him turn and look at her, "Nasty temper tantrums this place has."

He chuckled and they both stared at the apparition in the room. She watched Joyce urging Annie towards it. She was about to do something when Steve threw something at it, making it leave.

"I suggest that none of you go wandering alone tonight," Joyce said, in a voice that sent a chill down her friend's spine.

Raven couldn't sleep, there was no way she could sleep here. Not with the thoughts that flooded her mind when she closed her eyes. They weren't thoughts about the house, about the outcome of their intrusion into it, they were thoughts of a different nature. She couldn't get over his eyes, couldn't get over any part of him if she wanted to tell herself the truth and stop sugar coating it. She knew what room he was in, there was nothing to stop her. Well, except mayhatehatever was lurking around this house. She knew damn well he wanted her, so what was the problem? Live while your still able to do it,
she thought, there are no second chances in this place. She made up her mind and got up, smoothing down her skirt and running her fingers through her hair.
