Chapter 2

Part 2

******

“’t g’t g’t get the gas back on…”

Jordon slowly lifted her head at the sound of Royce’s voice, her arm half way out of her jacket. Dumping the garment into the chair near her hip she went quickly into his arms trying to grab hold of the comfort she always found in them. But there was nothing, no comfort, no rush of feelings, only a chilling numbess for the man. She knew then why, why there was nothing left between them. It was Urgayle that she wanted, wanted so badly that it blocked out the possibility of anyone else. So, it was when his lips clamped over hers that she knew she had to say something, she had to make Royce understand.

“We’ve gotta talk….” Was how the afternoon started out and it ended with a deep understanding of what would remain of their relationship. A friendship to be treasured in the years to come. And through it all he had supported her going so far as to point out where the accusations as well as the pictures that ended her SEAL training had orginated from.

The next afternoon was a battle to sooth her soul, to send her back to the one place she longed to be. It was the one place she deserved to be, had earned the right.

“Don't ever think of playing politics with me, little darlin', or you'll be up way past your bedtime.” DeHaven had came at her with claws extended but in the end it was Jordon that could ruin the woman, show her for the fool she was. Smoothing back her elegant hair, the senator had finally agreed to give Jordon what she wanted. “I’ll do it. Somehow I’ll get ya back in.”

Rain beat down on the sandy Florida ground washing the morning air of everything except a clean renewing smell. Catalano lay quite and tranquil at that hour, leaving a man too much time with his own thoughts.

Another day and Jack found he lacked motivation, the desire to give another order, to see through another exercise. Jordon had taken the sum total of his desire with her the moment she turned her back and walked away from him, walked away from the heart stopping kiss they had shared. He’d thought t tht that kiss dozens of times a day since she’d left the base and it was clear it was driving him beyond distraction, it was sapping him of his own determined will. But today was the day he was determined to regulate the moment to the past and trudge ahead with his trainees.

The sound was so familiar that at first he ignored it, ignored it until it was just beyond the tent where he sat picking restlessly at his morning chow. Lifting his eyes he saw the impossible. O’Neil walkinlking towards the barracks like she belonged there, like she’d never rang out, like they had never shared more than a word between them.

“Hey Lieutenant, come here….”Jack called, his eyes taking in every crease and line of her as she walked slowly towards him, almost hesitantly. “I don’t know what the hell’s been going on the last fourty eight hours. Frankly, I don’t give a shit.” It was a lie and he could see in her eyes that she knew it was a lie too. He did care, in fact, carery mry much. It was like a surge of electricity through him as she stood their, looking at him as if she could see to his very core, stripping away everything but the base need that drove him to her.

“Good to see you too, Master Chief.” She smiled, heartfelt and honest. It was good to see him. Wonderful to see him, in fact. Drawing another breath had never been so difficult or so easy. Being there in front of him now brought out all the confidence she had in herself and yet it drew out every insecurity inside too.

He gave her leave to join the rest of the trainees but the very last thing she wanted to do was leave him without another of his kisses, another kiss that branded her down to her soul that drug out all the longing she held locked away. But it was not to be, not here, not now, not with everyone looking on as if she had just landed from a trip to mars.

“We’ll talk later, Jordoshe she heard quietly as she turned her back to him and stepped away. Her heart slammed into her ribs several times and then twisted wildly inside her chest.

“Yeah. Jack, we will.
