Chapter
Two: The Odd Flynn Family
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
A half hour
after Jack woke up, Melora’s twin sister, Bonita, came home. Even though
they were twins, they looked completely different. Bonita
Flynn had long, fiery red hair, and green eyes, while Melora had long, sandy
colored hair, and blue eyes.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
When Melora
saw her twin, she said, “We have a visitor in one of the guest rooms, Bonnie.”style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Oh,” said
Bonita, “can I see this visitor of yours?”
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes, but
he’s a man, not a woman, Bonnie,” replied Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-famierdaerdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Oh. Well,
I’m seeing someone anyway,” said Bonita, stiffly.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
**style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
It took
Bonita almost no time to find Jack’s room. Peering into the room, Bonita
recognized him immediately.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Melora sure
has a queer taste in guests, she thought, although, he is sort of
handsome…for a man, anyway.

In the back
garden, Bonita said to Melora, “You didn’t bring Captain Jack Sparrow
here, did you?”
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes,”
answered Melora, “Why?”
>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Well,
almost every island in the
him. He’s a pirate, Melora, not a stray puppy,” retorted Bonita.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Well, I
wasn’t just going to leave him lying on some beach unconscious and beaten half
to death,” argued Melora.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Well, he better
be gone when Bernie comes,” said Bonita.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Bernie
won’t mind,” said Melora.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“You’re
right, but I still don’t think he should stay,” Bonita continued.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I told him
he could until other arrangements can be made,” Melora added.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Bonita stalked
off to her bedchamber, muttering about nutty twin sisters trying to help
everyone in the

style='foize:ize:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
While
Melora was watering the violets on the front walk, young Carter, the
blacksmith’s son, gave Melora a letter. Being so far from town, the
Flynns had the
their house, and then someone, usually Carter, would deliver it to the Flynns.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Here you
are, Miss Melora,” Carter said, handing Melora the white envelope.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Thank you,
Carter. Here’s a farthing for your trouble,” replied Melora, taking the
envelope from the young lad, and giving him a small coin.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Thank you,
Miss Melora,” said Carter, running back to his home in the town of
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
After
Carter Adams had gone, Melora looked at the envelope. It read in rough,
block print:
To: Miss
Melora and Bonita Flynn
Grover’s
Corners Grand Cayman
From:
Mister Bernard Flynn
Room 30 C style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Royal
It was a
letter from Bernie! Melora ran inside, calling for Bonita, trying not to be
so loud as she’d wake up Jack, if he was still sleeping.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“What?”
asked Bonita, coming out of her room.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Bernie
sent us a letter,” Melora said.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Oh.
Let’s go read it,” suggested Bonita.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
So, Melora
and Bonita ran into the sitting room, sat on the settee, and read the letter.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Dear Melora
and Bonnie [it read],
Right now,
I’m in
James and Aunt Alice until the end of May. Then, I’ll be home during the
first or second week of June.
Love Your
Brother,
Bernard
Flynn, esq.
“Bernie’s
coming home next week,” said Melora, “it’s the first week of June now!”style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I think
that pirate should go before Bernie arrives,” scowled Bonita.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Bonnie, I
told you, Bernie won’t care if he’s here or not, and he has a name you know,”
Melora replied.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I know he
has a name, I recognize Captain Jack Sparrow when I see him, unlike certain
twin sisters who don’t seem to care if they dragged in the most feared pirate
in the Spanish Main,” yelled Bonita.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Bonita
shrugged, and left the room.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
**style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Melora was
right, Jack was sleeping, but it wasn’t a very peaceful sleep.
Jack was ding ing about what happened before he was left on the beach in front
of the Flynn home.
spanspan style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'> style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
*~*~*style='font-size:9;fon;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;c:bla:black'>
There was a
woman, Jack couldn’t recall her name at the moment, but he knew who she
was. The woman had removed Jack’s clothes, and tied him with rope to her
bed. Jack struggled, but the ropes cut into his wrists and ankles, so he
soon stopped. Then, the woman lit a candle, and poured the melted wax
into a small bowl. Then, she took hot oil from a lamp and poured that
into the bowl as well. Next, she poured the contents of the bowl down
Jack’s bare and recently scratched chest. Unable to control himself, Jack
screamed in pain.
*~*~*style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack woke
up with a start, and was met with the clear blue eyes of Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Have a bad
dream?” she asked.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack slowly
nodded.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Care to
tell me about it?” she asked.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Just as
slowly, Jack shook his head.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“All right. I’ll be right back, I’ll get you a
drink that works wonders for bad dreams that’s better than rum,” Melora said.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack cocked
his head to the side as if to say ‘better than rum?’style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes,”
answered Melora.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Then, she
left Jack’s room.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
**style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:b'>
Melora went to the kitchen house, and heated a pan of milk with
cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and cocoa over the fireplace.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'> When it was
finished, she poured it in a clay mug, and carried to Jack’s room. On the
way, she ran into Bonita.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Is that for
the pirate?” she asked.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes.
I would like it if you called him by his name,” said Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Bonita
looked at the contents of the mug, and said, “Did Captain Jack have a bad
dream?”
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Yes, but
he wouldn’t say what it was about,” replied Melora, “Excuse me, Bonnie.”style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Melora
walked past Bonita down the hall. Bonita followed her twin.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
**style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
In Jack’s
room, Jack was sitting cross-legged on the bed, with a blanket around himself.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Here you
are, Jack. I added cocoa and sugar to make it taste nicer,” said Melora,
handing Jack the mug.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack
sniffed the cup and looked questionably at Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“It has
besides cocoa and sugar, milk, nutmeg and cinnamon,” Melora answered.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Satisfied
with that answer, Jack drank the liquid slowly. In the middle of drinking,
he noticed Bonita and looked at her suspiciously.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Melora
noticed and said, “Oh, I’m sorry. Jack, this is my twin sister,
Bonita. I know we don’t look alike, but not all twins do. Bonita,
this is Captain Jack Sparrow.”
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack held
out his hand for Bonita to shake.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Bonita
shook it and said, “Isn’t much of a talker, is he?”style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack
ignored her, and went back to drinking his hot milk.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“He hasn’t
spoken one word to me since I brought him here,” whispered Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Well, that’s
probably an improvement from what I’ve heard,” whispered Bonita.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-sizept;fpt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“I’m going
to visit Arabella,” said Bonita, in her normal voice.style='-siz-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Allright,”
replied Melora, also normally.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
After
Bonita left, Jack looked questionably at Melora.style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
“Arabella is
Bonnie’s…lady friend,” replied Melora.
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>
Jack’s look
said ‘oh’.
