Into the Stars

The ship was much more expansive than it seemed from the outside. There was a galley/lounge central to everything else and two sleeping cabins off each side. The cockpit was up front and the engine room and storage areas were in the rear. I followed Kyp to the cockpit and took a seat in the navigator’s chair. “So where are we going?” I asked him. “Somewhere that I do not even know of right now.” He replied. He took my hand in his and patted it. “Don’t worry. I will know soon enough. You know who to pilot a starship?” “No, not really. I have read about it in many books and have flown a skyhopper but that is the extent of my knowledge on that.” I say with anticipation. “Well, that is something we shall have to remedy.” He says with a laugh. His eyes twinkle like the stars in the night sky above us. I giggle back at him. “ I would like that very much, to learn and all.” “Good, then we start now with your first lesson.” He squeezes my hand and then lets go. He explains to me how all the controls work, and walks me through the start-up process. Then slowly with is assistance I raise the ship up off the landing platform, turn and aims for the stars. It’s an exhilarating feeling, to fly towards the heavens. Soon we arrive in the outer atmosphere and Kyp takes over, getting the Nav computer to input coordinates for where we are going. He punches the final coordinate and then looks at me and smiles. “It will be about 30 minutes until we are out of the planets gravity pull. Then you can take us to hyperspace. I’m going to get something to eat and drink. You want something?” He asks with that twinkle still there in his eyes. “Sure, a blue milk would be great.” I reply with a huge grin up on my face, knowing I must look like a fool. “My pleasure, Cintre. Just sit back and relax for now.” And off he heads for the galley.

I sit back and look out at the stars as we head further away from home. It’s hard to believe that I have just left everything I have ever know, just because of a dream and something Rozzan told me to do. I don’t know where I am going, and amazingly I have no worry over this. Something tells me it is going to be ok, and I think it is Kyp’s reassuring presence. There is something mysterious about him, something dark, but yet I can see almost into his very soul when I look into his eyes. Rozzan is right, I want him. I have wanted for months now since he first appeared in my mind. I wonder if he has felt that too, since he saw the same dreams.

“Here you go. One blue milk as requested.” Kyp states as he enters the cockpit and hands it to me. “Thanks.” I reply as I take a sip and sit it down in the drink holder next to me. “Sure, no problem.” He replies. He takes a seat next to me in the pilot’s chair, checks the count down clock to hyperspace, and leans back and starts to eat his sandwich he made. “So how long will it take to get to where we are going?” I ask him. “Your still trying to get me to tell you where we are going. It won’t work. But to slightly answer your question, it will be about a day until we reach the coordinates I input, from there who knows.” He says and then smiles at me again and takes another bit of his sandwich. I smile back and return to drinking my blue milk and staring out at the stars. Never had I seen them so clearly. They were truly beautiful and awe inspiring. Soon the time pasted by and I was finished with my milk and he was done with his sandwich. “You ready to pull the lever?” He asks. “More then ever.” I reply. With this he places his hand over mine on the hyperspace lever and we pull it together, slowly the stars blur out of existence around us.

I’ve spent the last few hours just watching Kyp as he kept an eye on the ships progress, showing what more of the buttons and levers do. But the thought kept coming back to me, what did those guys want with me? With all that had happened it had been pushed to the back of my mind, until now, now it was screaming for an answer. “Kyp, what did those men want with me? They wanted more then to talk, I know, but I don’t think they were planning on taking advantage of me either. If I am to go any further with you, I must at least know this.” I asked as I gently laid my hand upon his arm. Kyp looked at me unsure of what to say. “Please tell me. I need to know. Does it have something to do with the dreams I have?” I coaxed him again. Kyp sighed and turned towards me, taking both my hands in his, lightly rubbing them. “I told you already that your parents, fought in the war against the empire.” I shake my head yes at him. “Your father and mother were both X-wing pilots. When Master Skywalker met you, he sensed potential in you, the force was strong within you, but there was something else. It was the dreams you had, even as a child they told of the future. These men that are after you, hired hands, are trying to take you to their leader. We don’t know who he is yet, but we do know he wants to use your ability to control the galaxy.” Kyp finished still holding on to my hands as much for support as to comfort me. “But I can’t control when I have a dream, or what it is about. They just come to me.” Kyp nods towards me and replies, “That is something we can teach you. We can show you how to harness the force more easily, to control when you dream.” I pull my hands away, stand up and pace towards the cabin door. “I can learn to do that? Are you saying I could be a Jedi?” I asked as I sit back down. “You can be if you want to learn. It is not an easy path. Even I have touched the dark side, and am ever drawn to it.” Kyp stands and pulls me up towards him, putting his arm around my shoulder and leading me towards the cabin door. “But for now, lets not think on this. We are both tired and need rest. I’ll show you to your cabin.” Kyp led me out, his arm still around my shoulders, to my cabin. I felt secure with him this way, and wondered if more could or would happen between us. For the first time in my life I felt as though I belonged and I belonged with Kyp.

When we arrived at my door, Kyp hit the unlock button, and led me in. “I hope you’ll be comfortable. There are some sleeping shifts in the drawer over there, and the refresher is just through that door there.” He stated while pointing. ‘Thank you, Kyp, for everything your doing for me.” I replied. Kyp looked at me and smiled, patted my shoulder with his hand, and turned to walk out. “Good Night, Cin. Sleep well.” He smile again and walked out the door before I could reply, the door swishing shut between us. I sighed and turned towards the drawer, pulling out a lovely emerald green shift. It was soft and shimmered in the light. “Just what I would have picked for myself.” I say out loud to myself. I took the shift and headed to the refresher, stripped out of my dress, washed and slipped into the shift. It seemed to fit me perfectly, stopping just above my knees. I climbed into the bed, and reached for the light switch on the nightstand next to me. Darkness surrounded me, except for the occasional swishes of starlight that passed by through the small port window. I lied there for a while just staring out the window, my thoughts returning to Kyp. He was such a mysterious man, gentle yet hardened by his past. I fell asleep with his smile imprinted on my mind.

Where am I? I have never seen this place before. It is dusty and everything is bland in color, the color of sand. The wind is blowing it all around me. I look up the street I am standing in and back down. Which way do I go? Where is Kyp? ZZZZZ, a sound, from up ahead. I begin to run that way, Kyp must be there; I feel it in my heart. I run faster, sweat trickling down my cheek, dripping on to a brown cloak I am wearing. I pull the hood up closer to block the stinging sand. I see an intersection up ahead. ZZZZ, the sound again, coming from the left. I turn that way and run faster. Kyp, he is here, but who are those men that have him surrounded? One man, behind him, is drawing a blaster out. He’s going to shoot Kyp! I try to scream out to warn him but nothing comes out, all I can do is scream in my head. They can’t kill Kyp, I need him. Kyp looks towards me as the man places the blaster directly behind his head. He smiles and…..

“Cintre! Wake up! It’s just a dream!” Kyp whispers into my ear. I awake and grab on to him, sobbing. “I heard you screaming from across the hall. Tell me about the dream.” He whispers again while wrapping his arms further around me, comforting me. I relax against his bare chest, and begin to tell him one of my worst fears will come true. I was going to loose him before I ever really had him. “We were on a desert planet. I couldn’t find you. I was running and I heard a sound, like your lightsaber cutting through the air. I ran as fast as I could.” I sob even more now, the tears once again streaming down my face falling on to Kyp’s chest. “There were these men, they had you surrounded. One…one of them had a blaster he was aiming it at your head from behind. I…I don’t think you knew, I tried to scream, but I couldn’t. He was going to….kill you, Kyp. You looked at me and smiled, and then..you woke me up.” I finished, latching on tighter to him. “I won’t die. Not like that. Don’t worry. I think we can stop that before it comes to that.” Kyp says as he strokes my hair away from my face. “How can you be sure, I saw it.” I reply to him. “I don’t know, I just know we can change it, now that we do know what will happen. It does give me a clue as to where we will go though. Don’t worry.” Kyp states as he lays me back down. “Lie down and go back to sleep. I’ll stay here with you.” Kyp lies down next to me, taking me in his arms and holding me to his chest. “I’m glad you’re here with me Kyp. I feel safer already.” I reply as I snuggle in closer to him. “Shhhhssss. Go to sleep, we only have a few hours till we drop out of hyperspace. Let’s get some rest while we can.” I closed my eyes and let the feeling of Kyp wrapped around me, guide me into a peaceful sleep.
