Chance Meetings
2 Months Later
"A pack of reds in a box." Jesse muttered, fishing out a few dollars from his wallet.
"I.D."
The older woman stated, tossing the pack of cigarettes onto the counter.
Handing over his drivers license, Jesse glanced outside, watching as a silver Toyota Supra pulled into the parking space beside his newly won Mustang GT. A young girl with two shoulder length black ponytails stepped out of the car and scanned the parking lot.
"Anything else?" Turning his attention back to the task at hand, Jesse gave the cashier his money and grabbed the case of Corona, along with the chips and cigarettes.
"Seven cents, is your change." The cashier muttered, as he took the pennies from her.
"Those things will kill you." A soft voice assured, causing Jesse to turn and look at the woman standing beside him. She smiled sweetly and grabbed a soda from the cooler beside the door.
Jesse studied her for a long moment; she was wearing tight fitting blue jeans and a sleeveless black top. Two sparkling blue eyes met his own paler hues as she smiled again, handing the cashier her money.
"That's a nice car out there, yours?" Jesse asked, returning his short attention span back to the Supra.
"Yeah, she's been giving me hell the past few weeks though.. something in the brakes I think.."
The girl shrugged and paid for her purchases.
"It could be something with the wheel baring or anything." Jesse assured, as they walked outside together.
"Sounds like you know your way around a vehicle." The girl declared, unlocking her car.
"I work at a garage.. it's just down the street here. Whenever you get a chance you can bring it down and I'll take a look at it." The girl glanced at him, then back at her car. "Alright, it's a date."
-One Week Later-
"That won't work." Dominic Toretto muttered, standing to his feet beside Vince and Leon.
"The engine is fried, we're going to have to rip out the whole block and start new. Where the hell is Jesse?" He went on, cleaning his hands as he talked.
"Dom." A quiet voice spoke up from the sidelines, causing Dominic to turn on his heals and glare at the intruder.
"Mia, you seen Jesse?" He asked his sister, glancing at the girl who stood beside her.
"Who's this?" He questioned, throwing the rag towards the wall. Mia nodded towards Dom, giving the girl the okay to speak to him.
"I'm Lora, some guy with a Mustang said that he would take a look at my car if I brought it here and today is my day off." Lora assured, running a hand through her silky hair before removing her sunglasses. Dom found himself staring into the brightest blue eye's he'd ever seen.
"Leon, go find Jesse." He ordered, never letting his eyes fall from Lora's. "Sure, thing, dawg." Leon muttered, walking off through the garage to find his missing friend.
"So you want us to look at your car for you?" He asked, looking past Lora to the Supra parked across the street. Lora nodded, smiling towards Dom and the others.
After a few looks from the team, Dominic nodded. "I'm Dom, this is Vince, Letty, Leon just disappeared, and you met Mia. One question though,"
"Are you a cop?"
Lora took a long drink from her soda and sat it down on the counter between herself and Mia.
"So what school are you going to?" She asked, trying to make conversation as Mia flipped through the pages of a textbook.
"This is my last year at California University. I'm trying to become a nurse."
Lora nodded approvingly,
"Sounds tough, I should have went to college but school never was that interesting to me. I applaud you, because I'm going to be working at the Burger Barn for the rest of my life."
Mia laughed quietly, looking up at Lora from across the counter. "I still have to get into medical school and get straight A's, plus if our business here doesn't pick up I might be coming down to the Burger Barn and taking an application." She teased, laughing with Lora.
Jesse leaned over the hood of Lora's car, lost in thought as he tried to figure out what exactly the problem was. "More than likely it's your wheel barring, and the hub on the front right wheel is coming loose. I don't think there's a problem with the actual brakes." He said after a few more minutes of silence.
"Sounds expensive." Lora muttered, now standing beside him.
"Run you about a hundred for labor and parts, I know we've got the baring but the hub might have to be ordered." He explained, bending over the engine to examine it again.
"You ever raced this car? I bet there's two grand under the hood." Lora nodded, pointing to where the NoS used to be connected.
"Once or twice." She assured, looking down into the mix of nuts and bolts.
"They've got this thing on the wee, st, street.."
Jesse looked up, noticing Dom, Mia and Letty walking towards them. "Hey, guys." He muttered, closing the hood of the Supra slowly.
"So what's the verdict, Einstein?" Dom asked, looking up at them. "Simple wheel barring repair, might have to order a new hub. You up for it?" Jesse asked, leaning against the hood.
"Yeah, you can leave it overnight and I'll have it fixed by tomorrow. Jess, give your girl a ride home." Dom ordered, taking the key from him.
Lora thanked Dom for his help and followed Jesse back to his Mustang.
"Like I was saying earlier, they've got these street races down on Sixth Street on the weekends.. you race, watch - whatever." Jesse explained, driving down the street towards Lora's apartment. She nodded, taking the information in.
"Dom's trying to fix up this new Dodge Charger he found for the race this weekend.. you should come, or something." He went on, a slight hint of nervousness in his voice.
Smiling, Lora pointed towards her apartment building, "I'd like that. Where is Sixth Street?" She laughed.
"How long have you been in L.A?" Jesse asked, pulling into the apartment complex and parking the car.
"Less than a month. I was living up state for a while then I came down here, still trying to findway way around without getting lost." Lora assured, unbuckling her seatbelt.
Jesse grinned towards her, "If you want.. you can meet me at Dom's house.. there's always a huge party after the race. We can all just go together."
Lora nodded, looking over at him. "Alright. I'll see you Friday, then."
