Part 2
Chapter 2
Car Trouble
"Oh, my God! Move!" Dennis yelled pulling Arthur from the car as Kathy and Maggie
jumped out.
They all stood quite a few feet behind the vehicle as the Torn Prince approached
the front of the car. He shouldered his bat and took another drag from his
cigarette watching the horrified people. Smiling, he snickered as he exhaled. He
was more amused watching the clairvoyant's expression of fear.
The Torn Prince ran his fingers along the hood and slowly walked over to the
driver's side door. It was then that suddenly Arthur remembered Bobby sleeping
in the backseat.
"Bobby, oh, my God!" Arthur went to run toward the ghostly teen as Dennis
grabbed him.
Royce put his index finger across his lips, smiling, motioning the father to be
quiet and not wake the kid. He slowly opened the driver's door and climbed in as
Arthur thrashed out pulling away from Dennis. Royce saw the father running
toward the car from the rear view mirror and glanced at the sleeping kid in the
backseat.
Kathy and Maggie were screaming as Arthur got up to the car door. Royce was
fumbling with levers under the seat and near the floor until the hood popped
open. His bat was lying across his lap as Arthur eyed it up and down waiting for
the ghost to strike.
Royce slid off the seat, standing, as Arthur went to open the passenger side
door to grab Bobby, who was still asleep. The Torn Prince shook his head looking
Arthur in the eyes.
"Chill, man." Royce giggled as he flung his bat to the ground and rounded the
front of the vehicle.
Arthur stood there wide-eyed. "My God...you can speak."
Royce giggled again and shook his head as he fumbled for the hood's latch. Of
course I can speak. He opened the hood as Arthur still stood there looking on in
amazement. And I can read and write if you're wondering that next, man.
Arthur leaned backward against the car holding his heart taking a huge relief
breather just as Dennis walked up next to him. Dennis looked shocked and glanced
at the teen's bat on the grass. Royce saw the clairvoyant eyeing his bat and
slowly walked over to it as the two men jumped.
"I knew it! Arthur grab Bobby!" Dennis yelled out.
Royce picked up his bat and shot the two men a look. Fuckin chill, ya dig? I
just don't trust the psychic.
Dennis' face showed confusion. Me? You don't trust me?
Royce glared at the clairvoyant and shook his head moving back to the front of
the car. He tossed the bat on the grass by his feet as he leaned over under the
hood. Dennis came up by the teen's side.
"You hit me with my bat and I'll smack your head in with it, dig, man?" Royce
mumbled from underneath the hood.
"You're the one that can't be trusted, Royce Clayton." Dennis snapped as Arthur
came up to the two ghosts.
"Royce Clayton?" Arthur replied looking to Dennis. "Who's Royce Clayton?"
Dennis pointed to the Torn Prince who looked up at them. "Yeah, I do have a name
like all the ghosts do. Quite ironic, isn't it?" He giggled and started screwing
with the engine and parts surrounding it.
"Uh...Royce. What are you doing?" Arthur found himself asking the teen.
"Fixing your car...what's it look like?"
Dennis threw his hands up in despair. "Yeah...why don't you ask him what he wants
in return, huh? Maybe to let him smack one of your kids heads in?"
Royce let out a deep, loud sigh as he pulled his hands up from some wires. "Maybe
I should have Ryan or Horace come back here and do this, hmm? I'm sure Ryan
would love to get his hands on that chick again." He glanced over at Kathy as her
eyes were glued to him. He smiled at her and was shocked to see her smile back.
"You know, I could catch up with the ghosts in the woods for ya." He glanced at
the guys then back to Kathy again.
Dennis shook his head. "No...no! How...how do we know you're gonna fix this car?"
Royce pulled his hands up from underneath the side of the engine, pulled the
cigarette from his lips and smiled at Dennis. Walking around to the driver's
side, he slid in and turned the key. The car started as he winked at Dennis,
smiling.
He inhaled a long drag and stood up as Dennis stepped in front of him. He
exhaled, "Don't under estimate me, man."
He strolled back over to the front of the car and grabbed his bat, where he
slowly headed back to his car as Dennis and Arthur caught up with him.
"Now what?" Royce said stopping.
"Thanks." Arthur said holding his hand out to the Torn Prince. He went to shake
the teen's hand and watch his hand go right through. "My, God."
Royce snickered and grabbed the man's hand making him jump. He saw Arthur's
facial expression as to why he could touch him and Arthur couldn't.
"You're just leaving now and that's that?" Dennis asked the teen as he nodded. "You
want nothing for fixing the car?"
Royce shook his head in confusion. "What the hell would I want? I'm dead. Catch
my drift?" He took another drag from his cigarette. "Well, I'm splittin this
scene."
Arthur walked back over to his car as Maggie and Kathy were already in it. They
had enough of the Glass House and couldn't wait to leave.
Royce opened his car door as Dennis was still standing behind him. The
clairvoyant watched the teen get into the driver's seat. "So, where you headed,
Clayton?"
"Does it matter? Why? What do you want from me?" He glanced up into Dennis' eyes
as the clairvoyant hung onto the car door waiting for Arthur and his family to
leave. "You need a lift or something?"
Arthur waved good-bye and pulled away down the dirt road into the darkness
leaving the two ghosts alone. Dennis turned his attention back to Royce.
"Uh...no. Since you're not in a hurry to go anywhere, Clayton...I, uh..." He
stopped.
Royce shook his head and exhaled smoke. "What'cha gettin at, Rafkin?"
Dennis smiled and leaned close to Royce in the car...inches from the teen's
face. He eyed the kid up and down, smiling. "Just wonderin if you got some time
to spare, hmm?"
