The buzzer rang but Clarice never acknowledged it until she heard someone insistently trying to get her attention. She finally managed to snap back to reality.
“Wow, go somewhere else dahl? Anyways talk to yah later!” The unacknowledged man winked at her as he left the table.
“Um, yes, uh.. nice meeting you.” She replied distractedly. But soon time slowed down once again as she saw the man belonging to the velvet voice gracefully stood up, icy blue eyes piercing into her. As he walked over and sat down before her she didn’t even blink all the time it took him. But as he slowly had gotten closer to her she could feel her pulse rise.
“Hello Clarice.” Lecter greeted drawling out the “ss” sound in her name as he gave his characteristic grin to her: The one that someone who held all the aces in the card game would give.
Clarice’s mouth felt dry her tongue feeling thick and clumsy as she tried to form coherent words. “H-hello Doctor.”
“I must say Clarice this seems a little beneath you, so un-intimate, and dingy. You aren’t getting desperate are you Clarice? To find the ‘Perfect Match’.” Again that grin.
”I-I just came here with a friend.” She swallowed hard and brought her glass to her plush glossy lips trying to dispel the dryness in her mouth. When she put the glass down again a waiter was there in seconds to fill it to the top again. ‘How many glasses was that now?’ She thought as she intently stared into the burgundy depths of her wine. She couldn’t remember. Clarice shook her head in an attempt to dispel the fog lingering in her mind. She forced herself tot think clearly as who exactly sat in front of her assaulted her thoughts. “Why are you here Doctor Lecter?” She finally managed with her usual cool tone in her voice she usually used against the man.
“Please now, Agent Starling my name is Doctor Lurou.” His eyes twinkled amusedly. “I just came her to finish something that only just started.” He smiles softly, his eyes still possessing that twinkle.
“Something? Like what?” She grew angry that he had caught her while in such an affected state. ‘Why now? Why not when I could be on even standing with him…. If that was possible. Because no one could disagree that Hannabil is a genius!” Clarice thought to herself.
Like a blade cutting through flesh, the buzzer rang slicing the almost tangible tenseness that hung between the two (for her anyways).
”Well, Clarice I guess that ends this little chit chat, tah tah!” He rose slowly as the next man stood waiting to take his place.
”Wait you don’t get to just walk away!” Clarice almost shouted, without realizing it, at Hannabil’s back as he turned away from her.
He turned back to face her, the corners of his mouth turned up slightly. He knew he had her now. “Well Clarice as you can see we have ran out of time.” He shrugged slightly trying to seem non committal. He paused “Unless Clarice, you would like to join me somewhere more…” he exaggeratedly glanced around the room, “more classy, private even?” He gave a smile that was quite genuine.
Clarice chewed on her bottom lip once again trying to navigate through the for her wine had induced. She continued to think not answering.
”Hey old timer, yah plannin’ on getting outta the way soon or wut?” a wiry sleezy looking man, who didn’t look so young himself, cut in.
“Clarice, you have a choice, you better decide now!” He paused a moment until it still seemed she was battling with herself, he continued. “Alright, One...” He turned slightly away from her, “Two…Clarice…Thr-“ Clarice rose out of her chair grabbing her sweude jacket she had brought. Hannabil just gave his characteristic grin. “Alright then,” He turned facing the younger man, he spoke as he offered his arm to the blurred Clarice. “well, the lady has appeared to decide to pursue more tasteful company. If you’ll excuse us….” He gave an almost threatening look, no one was going to ruin this! The man gawked as he saw the older man walk away with the attractive younger woman attached to his arm.

Dr. Lecter lead Clarice to his gorgeous forest green jaguar outside the dingy bar down town. Helping her slide into the plush seat, closing the door behind her: the absolute gentlemen, albeit he’s a cannibal. He slid in behind the wheel as Clarice studied him. She looked as though she had something she wanted to say, ‘Alright Clarice, fight a bit more against your instincts whatever those ones may be.’ He thought as he looked over to her making eye contact with her, forcing her to feel uncomfortable so she would say what was on her mind.
”I thought you said you’d never come for me?” She swallowed hard he could see as the muscles in her neck tensed and released. “And I’m assuming that by the ‘something’ you came back to finish is to do with our last ‘encounter’?”
“Is that last part a question or a statement Clarice?” He suppressed the grin he felt coming on, ‘I enjoy this so!’ he thought to himself as he drove along the roadways.
Clarice was silent for a while and finally decided what to say apparently. “Does it matter Hannabil? Just tell me why you are here?”
“Clarice one should never assume anything, they either know or don’t know. I would say that you have no clue as to why I am here. What If Clarice I am here to finish with Krendler?” He let the entertained twinkle enter his eyes again. Clarice paused again ‘I love to cause such turmoil within this beautiful woman, seeing her features twist as she debates. Although, her face is rather flushed more than likely from her numerous glasses of wine!’ He thought as he studied her face amused.
”But you’re not here for Krendler, you knew you’d never get far with that, he was just for fun.” Her jaw clenched, her chin jutting out slightly.
“Again, question or statement?”
”Statement.” Clarice replied obviously expecting that, Hannabil grinned.
”My, my, AgenT Starling,” Hannabil emphasized the ‘T’ in the word agent just to bug her. “toned those detective skills have you?” He gave a sneer at this then clamed himself. “Yes, my clever little starling of course I have come back to finish this.”
Finally, he saw Clarice’s eyes go round as she noticed the end of her arm wrapped in a rich dark navy silk scarf. He could once again see the panic rise within her, amusing him again, the twinkle returning to his eyes not for the last tine this night.
