Chapter Two
They knew he was here. Well, not here, as in, here, but they knew he was in Detroit. He’d been here all of two days before they followed him. Lucky for him, they didn’t know his last name. With the name Mercer, they wouldn’t have even had to snoop around that much. Damn, what was he supposed to do now? He hadn’t found anywhere to go yet, and there was no way he could leave the house. He had really gotten himself into a fix now.
What was worse, he knew Ma was worried. He spend the biggest part of the time in his room, and when he wasn’t there, he was nervous and gave the windows and doors a wide berth. Worse than her being worried, she was in danger. He had put her in danger. How could he have been so stupid? He should have never come home. If they were to find him here… Well, it would not be pretty, nor would it be painless. He shuddered to think of what they might do to him.
What an idiot he had been! He should have just shot himself and saved anyone the trouble.

Bobby woke up to the ringing of his phone. Looking at the clock and mentally cursing, he picked up the receiver. “Hello?” he said groggily.
“Bobby?”
“Ma? What’s wrong? It’s five in the morning,” Bobby asked, instantly aware that something was terribly wrong.
“It’s Jack,” she answered, her voice wavering slightly.
“What’s little Jackie gotten himself into now?” he said flippantly, but on the inside was sick with worry.
“I don’t know. He won’t tell me, and I know that if I press him I won’t do anything good. But, Bobby, something has him terrified. He needs his brothers.”
“I can be there by ten.”
“Do you know where Angel is? I can’t reach him.”
“Yeah, he’s crashing here for the night. He’ll be with me.”
“Thank you, Bobby. Maybe you two and Jerry will be able to get him to open up to you.”
“I hope so, Ma.”
With that, he hung up the phone and got out of bed. “Angel! Get your lazy ass out of bed! Ma needs us home to see about Jackie!”
“What’s Cracker Jack doing, getting in trouble and making us get up this fucking early in the morning?”
“Just get your fucking ass up and let’s go!”
