Chapter 2
Lex woke up the next morning and thought perhaps he had dreamt the whole thing.
Checking himself in the mirror, he noticed the nasty gash on his forehead and groaned: unfortunately, he didn’t dream that bit. And the whole bit when he invited the aliens home to his house smacked of an openess that was either based on the fact the whole thing was an illusion...or because he’d been hit one too many times on the head.
Everything was quite fuzzy, but he distinctly remembered the part where the aliens levitated the ship out of corn field and into the Luthor-corp semi (driven by Enrique who was an incredibly talented butler) just seemed too far fetched. After he showered and dressed he left his room with just a bit of trepidation: what if his father had finally succeeded in driving him completely bonkers. Who was he kidding: Clark was the one who was driving him insane.
Sighing he headed downstairs for breakfast. That’s when he heard it: the sound of metal against metal. And it was coming from the battle room. He headed to the source of the sound and was pleased to see it was his two aliens, and they appeared to be sparring.
The fight didn’t follow a discernible style, it was what his fencing master snidely referred to as “swashbuckling.” But within the chaos, there was a pattern.
It was fast, faster than anything Lex had ever seen. He blinked and he was sure he could feel a strange energy emanating from the two. The fight seemed to go on forever until a bottle of water from the table fell and rolled behind the younger man, tripping him up.
The energy between the two flashed an angry red to Lex’s eyes.
“You cheated!” cherub face-shouted from the floor. The older man reached out a hand to help the boy up.
“I did not. You were so focused on winning the fight-“ the other man went flying into the wall and stayed there, pinned. Lex gasped from his spot by the door, shocked by this display of power.
“Let me down, Padawan.” His eyes were so cold that Lex shivered. The boy’s eyes flashed red for a moment then his gaze softened. The older man floated to the floor. Annikin ran to him, checking the older man for injury and then helped him to his feet.
“Master, I am so sorry. I did not mean-“
“If you do not control your dark emotions, young jedi, they will control you.”
“I know-“

“My master often broke the rules, and I in my own way have been a rebel. The Council and the Code we’ve adopted is not perfect but there are certain things that are true. Will always be true. Anger, hatred, jealousy, ambition do not a jedi master make. These will only lead you to the dark side, young padawan.”
“I know-“
“You do not know!” He was grasping the boy’s shoulders. “Why do you think the council was so relunctant to take on your training? We are at a precarious time in our history. If we lose you-everything is lost. Better that you had stayed a slave and died on Tatoie than live to destroy our Order.”
“You will not lose me.” Annikin’s eyes were full of tears. The older man subsided.
“Perhaps not. Even Master Yoda cannot tell the future.” Obi-Won sighed. He looked from the boy’s eyes and straight into Lex’s.
“I-hope we did not awaken your sleep.”
That’s when Lex realized they hadn’t been speaking English. And that their lips hadn’t been moving. And that to be honest, it wasn’t like he heard it all word for word: more like impression and feelings and images translated into words he could understand.
And he supposed it wasn’t that strange because he thought he could read people’s minds when he was younger but his father just thought he was crazy and sent him to a psychiatrist and he’d shut it all out with the drugs and the sex and it had all stopped. Then all things he’d seen Clark do and how the boy would say he was wrong, it didn’t happen that way, it was metal fatigue or he wasn’t remembering correctly. He felt a wave of dizziness hit him and he grasped the doorframe for support. The older man walked to him quickly and grabbed his arm before he could fall to the floor.
“You are ill Lex Luthor-“ Obi-Won said and he could feel the older man’s concern. It washed over him in waves and he was soothed. He looked up into the man’s blue eyes and he felt a sharp spike of something. Attraction. It cleared away the last vestiges of nausea.
“No-Fine. It’s just. You were talking before about Codes and dark side but your lips weren’t moving. Right? I’m not crazy. Please tell me I’m not crazy?” He looked into Obi-Won’s face.

That was the boy. He took Lex’s other arm and helped Obi-Won carry him to a chair in the room.

“We should be more careful.” The boy began and this time he was speaking English. “He is very strong in the force. Not as strong as me, of course, but stronger than many.”
“It is a pity he is too old for the training. Though, perhaps, I could help him since we do not know how long we will be on this planet.”
“Your English is getting much better!” Lex said because he needed to talk.
“Actually, I am wearing a universal translater I got from the ship. My apprentice does not need it: He says they speak a form of your language on his home planet.”
The mention of a home planet brightened Lex’s mood immeasurably.
“Okay, I want to hear everything. Shall we retire to the dining room for breakfast?”
