Meeting Rita
Chapter 1: Meeting Rita
Jimmy “Rabbit” Smith Jr. moved to the trailer park at age 6. He spent most of his time taking care of Lily. Stephanie, his mother, spent most of her nights drinking or spending the night at some random guy’s apartment.
One morning, Jimmy woke up to screaming and yelling. As he slowly woke up, rubbing his eyes and stretching, he decided to follow the noise. He first checked around his trailer. Lily was safely asleep in her crib and Stephanie was in the arms of some guy.
Over the last year, Jimmy had learned some tricks. One of them was how to open the door without making it noisy; lift up and pull to the left then push.
He did this and then walked out. It took him only a couple of minutes to get to a trailer that was four yards away. Jimmy slowly walked towards the noisy trailer. A girl with dark brown hair and a big purple coat sat on the porch with her knees to her chest. Jimmy stopped in his tracks when he saw her. A twig he stepped on broke and that got the girl’s attention. She quickly looked up. Her blue eyes stood out like the stars. Jimmy stared at first and then looked away quickly. When he looked back, the girl was walking towards him. She didn’t know him of course but for some reason was coming his way and for some reason her arms opened up and hugged him.
Jimmy wasn’t sure at first, but then decided to hug back. They hugged for a couple of minutes and then they parted their ways. During the next week, whenever Jimmy would say hi to the mysterious sad girl, she would just ignore him. Then one day, Jimmy doesn’t let her ignore him.
“Hi.” He says.
“Hi,” the girl replies.
“I’m Jimmy Smith Junior.”
“Rita Williams.”
After that they became best friends. Of course they also became friends with Cheddar Bob, David “Future” Porter, Sol George, DJ Iz, and Wink during the years leading up to high school.
