chapter 2
Back on the Pearl, Gibbs was growing impatient. He knew that so many things could go wrong here. “I know they got him. Please, tell me they didn’t get him. I don’t know how we would get him out of this one.” Anna Maria was pacing back and forth with Gibbs. “Jack is okay. He hasn’t been gone that long. At least I hope...” Anna Maria said under he breath.
Anna Maria had been back on the Pearl for about 2 weeks. She didn’t really want to be on this trip with Jack; she knew that most likely Elizabeth would be coming along. Jack had promised her a new ship if she helped Jack get back to Port Royal and get Will and Elizabeth’s help. Anna Maria was still wondering to herself what on earth Jack was looking for now. Why did he have to have that black smith and the governor’s daughter along? Earlier she had been in Jack’s cabin right before they made port, talking to him. He wouldn’t just come out and say what he was looking for. All he said was that Will was the only one who could help, and he just hoped Elizabeth would join them just for the fun of it. ‘What on earth could Jack be looking for? Why can’t he be truthful with me, and why is it so important for that tea party- going girl to come with us?’ She thought to herself while still pacing. Gibbs would say over and over again to himself ‘He is going to return nothing is going to happen.’
“Jack why do you need my help?” Will asked breaking the silence in the long boat. Jack looked out at how far the Pearl was, and then back to see if anyone was following. He had stolen about 5 cases of rum, a bunch of food, and one small item that Will had not really gotten a good look at. “William, it will be determined later as to why I need you help.” Jack said finally. Will just looked out at the water as Jack continued to row toward the Pearl. Elizabeth has sat and watched a change come over Jack, something she had not seen in him before as if something was bothering him and yet he wasn’t about to let anyone know about it. “Jack..” Will said again, “I think that if you are going to go dragging me into things you should at least let me know about it.” Will was getting a bit frustrated. Elizabeth had been staring and smiling at Jack since they pushed off the shore. She hadn’t smiled even the slightest bit since Will had told her that he had gotten her father’s permission to take her hand in marriage, and that he was going to ask her as soon as he found the perfect engagement gift.
“Here they come.” Anna Maria said as she looked out toward to port. “Thank god,” Mr. Gibbs said. “ I knew that he would be okay.” Anna Maria let out a little chuckle as she watched Gibbs throw down the rope so that Jack could grab a hold.
