Chapter 1

It had been a long, hard search for Vincent Roberto Morelli. Finally tracking him down after months of searching, Eve stared down at the man who was legally her husband. Silently she snorted. ‘Husband’ was a dirty word on her tongue. After numerous drinks…actually copious amounts…they’d decided it would be fun to get married. A perfect end to a one night stand - except they hadn’t even made it to the sex. Passing out on a hotel bed, she awoke the following morning to find her ‘husband’ gone, leaving in his wake a huge hotel bill, a silver celtic ring and merely a name to remember him by.

“Say what?”

The words weren’t spoken by Vince, he was just gaping at her, mouth open in a near perfect ‘O’, jaw slack. Eve swore she could see the beginnings of drool forming at the corners of his mouth. Inclining her head in the direction of the voice, she glared at a lithe man with blonde streaks combed through his messy brown hair. He was rubbing his chin, a perplexed look adorned his features.

“I’m Vince’s wife. Mrs Eve Morelli.”

The streaked guy blew out a huge breath and whistled. “Wife. Dawg. When did you get married man?!”

A dark haired woman rose from the table. “Hi, I’m Mia. This here is Leon, and the big guy is my brother, Dom. We’re a little shocked at the news.” She smiled wistfully. “You wanna sit down and tell us more about this?”

Eve raised an eyebrow as she looked around the table. Wow, these people looked like they had just stepped out of a soap opera, or off a movie set. The men had a dangerous edge to them, but that didn’t make them any less sexy, while Mia was stunning - all dark skin, hair and eyes with legs up her armpits. What the hell was she doing among the bold and the beautiful?

Her gaze settled on Vince. Oh yeah, she was here for her ‘husband’. Getting a good look at his face, Eve’s heart missed a few beats. Her body immediately primed itself for sex as she took in the muscular set of his shoulders; the glistening, tanned skin adorned with colourful tattoos that had her mouth watering. If she thought she’d been hooked by his body, she changed her mind when she slowly lifted her eyes to meet his.

His eyes were the color of midnight, deep pools of blue she could get lost in. His jaw was angular, covered in a dark scruff of hair that only added to his aura of sexiness. His hair was also dark; a tangled mess of sharp angles that made her want to run her fingers through, feeling the texture of the pelt.

Whew-eee! The guy was gorgeous. Not in a prissy, pretty boy way, but in a manly, masculine way. In a way that spoke of raw, dirty sex. In a way that screamed possessiveness and dominance. The thought send slithers of pleasure running down her spine.

“Wife?! How did we…When did we…?” A jumbled mass of words and half sentences escaped his mouth. Although he couldn’t hide his surprise, his voice was just like the rest of him - dark, sinful and seductive.

“Las Vegas, almost a year ago. We got drunk, got married and crashed. Next thing I know, I wake up alone, with a killer hangover, a huge hotel bill and a marriage certificate telling me I am now the wife of one Vincent Morelli. You.”

Dom clapped Vince on the shoulder. “You don’t remember your own wedding?” He couldn’t keep he amusement out his tone.

Eve frowned. She was glad Dom could find this funny. She’d been legally married to a man she barely remembered, or had seen, in almost a year. Somehow she didn’t find that amusing.

“Dawg, I swear if I was married, I think I’d know.”

Snorting, Eve reached for the marriage papers and opened them to the correct section. “Here.” She pointed at his signature. “This is where you signed to give me your name.”

As Vince looked up, his face blanched. He passed the papers around to everyone. They either nodded, gapped or mumbled a few choice swear words. There was no denying it - Vince was her husband. Legally anyway.

His gaze met hers and she found herself swooning despite the situation.
Get thee in check, thy raging hormones!

“So, why are ya coming to me now? You want money?” His face become serious, a scowl furrowed his brow. Even when he was angry he was still sexy.

She shook her head to dispel the traitorous thoughts. Managing to raise some indignation at his accusation, she reached into her purse and pulled out another wad of papers. “I don’t want your money.” Handing them over, she gave him a knock out, shit eating grin. “I want a divorce.”

The confusion and relief that passed over his face was a true picture. She didn’t know why, but that look of relief pierced her heart. Would it be so bad for him to be married to her? She chided herself for being so foolish. Hell, yeah it would. They barely knew each other. A few hours spent together getting drunk, a wedding and one night in the same bed didn’t a marriage make. She looked down at herself and then over at Vince. It was obvious from the way he dressed, looked, and lived that they had nothing in common. They were polar opposites in every sense of the word.

“Okay. Where do I sign?” He wiggled his fingers for the papers and a pen.

It was Leon who threw a proverbial spanner in the works. “Yo, dawg. Have you read this shit?” When Vince shook his head, Leon continued, a chuckle escaping his lips. “You should read the reason why you guys are getting divorced.”

“C’mon, Leon. Gimme those papers and lets get this shit over with.”

Leon just held onto them and continued to laugh. “It says here you are getting divorce on the “grounds of non-consummation of the marriage”.” He beamed over at Vince, a sly twinkle in his eye. “You know what that means, right?!”

Vince whipped his gaze to Eve’s. “We didn’t have sex?! C’mon! We got married and then had sex. Didn’t we?”

“Considering you don’t even remember that night, how can you dictate to me what we did or didn’t do? No, Vince. We didn’t have sex.” Deciding it was time to get a little pay back for the hotel bill, the months spent searching, and yeah, she admitting to herself, for him being completely relieved to have an escape from her, she added “I was all for it, but you were too drunk to get it up.”

The pure look of horror on his face and the roaring laughter from the rest of the group, made her cover her mouth discreetly with her hand, stifling her own laugh. He truly was horrified that he couldn’t perform. She bet her right arm that didn’t happen often to a guy like Vince, even when he was drunk.

“No. No.” He drummed his fingers on the table, before scrapping back his chair and standing over her.

He towered above her, a menacing goliath pointing an accusing finger in her direction. “How do I know you ain’t trying to ruin my reputation? Huh? We could of had sex once, or something. I let ya go and now you are doing this to get back at me.”

The temper rose in her body. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment at what she was about to confess, and with outrage that he could think something so arrogant as that. She shuffled back her own chair, raising to stand before him, glaring into his eyes like he did to hers. She wouldn’t back down. She wasn’t afraid of him, just pissed off. “Don’t flatter yourself, sweetheart.” She looked him up and down, raking her gaze over his body. She sneered at him. “I believe you sully your own reputation.”

There was a chorus of “ohhhhh” and “ahhhhh”, as well as a few snorts and cat calls from the table. She ignored those and continued. “I can file for divorce on those grounds because we never had sex.”

He clenched his teeth. “They can’t be hundred percent certain. We might’ve have sex.”

It was her turn to snort. “Don’t think so. You see, I still have my hymen in tact.”

His face blanched again. The cat calls went deadly silent, as she finished with a statement she knew would blow Vince‘s mind. “I’m still a virgin.”
